Speaker 1 (00:01):
There are two sides to every story. On one side
to facts.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
This is the Brian Mud Show.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
The twenty twenty four Florida Amendment series. This is Amendment three.
So there will be six proposed constitutional amendments on Florida's
ballots in November general election. Four of those proposed amendments
were referred by the Florida Legislature, two or citizen led
proposals which met all requirements for consideration by voters. The
(00:33):
third of the six proposed amendments that to appear on
our ballots would constitutionally permit recreational marijuana sales and use
within the state. Here's how the proposal will appear on
our ballots. The title Adult Personal Use of Marijuana. The
summary allows adults twenty one years or older to possess, purchase,
(00:56):
or use marijuana products and marijuana assessments for non medical
personal consumption by smoking, ingestion, or otherwise. Allows medical marijuana
treatment centers and other state licensed entities to acquire, cultivate, process, manufacture, sell,
and distribute such brought products and accessories. Applies to Florida law,
(01:21):
does not change or immunize violations of federal law. Establishes
possession limits for personal use, allows consistent legislation, defines terms,
provides effective date. A yes vote supports legalizing marijuana for
adults twenty one years old and older and allowing individuals
(01:43):
to possess up to three ounces of marijuana. A no
vote opposes legalizing marijuana for adult use in Florida. Okay, Now,
the first thing about this is the characterization of legalizing marijuana.
My recommendation is a no vote on Amendment three, and
(02:06):
the reasons are straightforward. First of all, this is a
matter that could be handled legislatively. Amending the state's constitution
for the purpose of gaining access to recreational marijuana is
not the appropriate way to go about legalizing marijuana, and
that leads to the even much bigger issue that I
have with this amendment. No matter how Flordians vote on
(02:30):
Amendment three in this election cycle, recreational marijuana will not
be legal in Florida. Florida cannot legalize marijuana. Marijuana remains
a Schedule one drug according to the federal government. The
federal government retains superseding authority over state policies pertaining the
(02:50):
controlled substances. This means that any businesses transacting in marijuana
would not be able to access the attritional banking system.
They could be charged with drug trafficking if the DEEA
chose to enforce federal policy against Florida's businesses. Likewise, those
(03:11):
purchasing recreational marijuana would also be breaking federal law. If
Lordians want to truly legalize marijuana, they should petition their
federal representation to enact policy decriminalizing it at the federal level.
It's always there's a right and a wrong way to
go about doing things, and this is not the right way.
(03:33):
The proposed amendment needs a minimum of sixty percent support
to pass.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
All right. The Florida Supreme Court fast tracking lawsuit from
a Palm Beach County man named its state officials campaigning
against the abortion amendment. Lake Worth attorney Adam Richardson filed
to Tuesday after the state Agency for Healthcare Administration posted
a page on its website criticizing the amendment that would
kind offy abortion rights. Richardson suing the governor, attorney general,
and the Agency secretary claim I mean they're unlawfully interfering
(04:02):
in the referendum. The state has until September twenty third
to respond and we're also monitoring the world's first all
civilian spacewalk. SpaceX's Polarist Dawn mission had launched from Kennedy
Space Center for people including billionaire Jared Isiacman into orbit
on Tuesday morning, and this latest update, Isaacman just has
(04:24):
been given the go ahead to begin prying open the
crew dragon hatch, opening the doorway to space from their
small capsules. I've been keeping an eye on this, and
it looks like we've got some cheers. Just got the
capsule open right now, Brian. It's pretty exciting stuff.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
That's pretty neat a little bit different than Bezos and
his little thallic brocket.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
I knew that was coming
