Speaker 1 (00:00):
When you are fitting golfers, whether they be you know,
just your during the week or weekend, and then you've
got your elite golfers, how do you change how you
fit them or is it exactly the same.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
That's a great question to start the morning. I think
probably the biggest difference we notice. So I mean, i'd
argue that the process is the same because we're really
just trying to help people choose. But I think the
elite players come with a sense of exactly what they
want and need from us and from the golf clubs,
(00:35):
so much more specific around certain shots or certain ball flight.
It's really if you think of a builder with a
toolbolt on. You know, they've used their tools a lot,
they know exactly what they want out of them, and
they're a little bit more demanding in terms of us
answering some questions to see what they want to see.
I think your everyday golfer, or your weekend's golfer, or
you're a new golfer probably lean on us a little
(00:57):
bit more about, you know, just advice around what tools
would help make the game that little bit easier. And
I think arguably we probably jump between those two quite
naturally because we do a lot, but yeah, it's a
subtle difference between knowing what you want and being incredibly
specific versus probably reaching out for a bit of guidance,
you know, so good. That's the biggest thing we noticed.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Yeah, Yeah, because I mean, if I'm thinking of myself,
I mean I can probably hit the ball okay, but
accuracy definitely missing in the short game, definitely missing. But
you know, you would have to help me pick what
I would need for my game.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
There's no doubt about that. I totally get that.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Yeah, and you're filling a bag with you know, up
to fourteen clubs. There's a lot of decisions, and I
think there's a lot of the danger is the weekend
golfer looks in the bags at the New Zealand Open
and decides that maybe they're the best clubs to play
better golf. And I think there's a big crossover between yeah,
high skill set, you know, elite players and what they choose,
and for us, it's really putting some sensible tools, you know,
(01:56):
to make up a set that makes sense that people
understand and going to just arguably get a little bit
more consistency and enjoy themselves a bit more, which yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Yeah, So if I was coming in for a fitting,
what would be the things that you would be looking
at my height? You know, the biomechanics of a person.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, I think we default to that as
you sort of standard in most people's sort of assumption,
as we're going to yes, we're going to test how
fast they swing houts, all they are, how big their
hands are, you know, et cetera. A part of that,
I think a lot of it is really understanding, Yeah, biomechanics,
your background in sport. You know, a lot of people
come with some movement and understanding around you know, they've
played another sport at a different level, and we're sort
(02:34):
of trying and understand what they do most naturally and
then really just complement that with some tools that arguably
mean yeah, they don't have to think too much, they
don't have to work on too much, and their results
get better quicker, you know. So it's really it's just
about trying to match sensible weight of club, length of club,
type of club, and yeah, sort of just really choosing
easier tools to complement what they do naturally really is
(02:56):
what it's about.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
And when someone has picking up a club for the
first time and having a swing. You've obviously got an
area where they can actually.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Have a hit.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yeah, we we're incredibly lucky. Now we've got we've got
a driving orange at Record and Park with thirty thirty
bays and an outdoor and in a door sort of area.
We've got simulators in each of us stores were now
encross it. We've got the biggest golf retail store in
New Zealand down sort of Moorhouse Avenue and Colombo Street
corner where there's four simulator bays. So yeah, absolutely, people.
(03:27):
The biggest thing for new players is really just making
sure they feel comfortable that it's not it's not a
scary process and we're not there to judge them or
you know, analyze how good they are. It's really more
about creating a comfortable space where people can come and learn. Yeah,
and we can help them get into it and hopefully
then you know, when it comes time to choose product day,
we can help them do that. Really.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Oh yeah, because that warehouse is buy Rebel Sport.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Isn't it. That's right?
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Yeah, oh, very good.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
So you can help people pick the right golf clubs,
but you can't help them be better golfers.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
They've got to do that themselves of course.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Oh I know, we can help them do that too,
but that's all part of it. Yeah, taglineers, golfers helping golfers.
So I mean we're sort of there at any step really,
But yeah, we do a lot of a lot of
beginner based stuff. We've got packages that are included with
most you know, lesson packages that are included with most purchases.
And it's really a yes, it's up to the player
(04:21):
of course, in health when they visit the driving range
generally to coax how much better they get. But yeah,
there's a combination between trying to sort of marry those
two things together. Really for us, well, it's.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Really important that you get them fitted properly. There's no
doubt about that.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
You cannot go into a game like golf without getting
them done properly.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Yeah, well said I agree.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Good. Well you've you've got three warehouses.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Haven't you.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah, Yeah, we've Yeah, we've sort of been quite busy
in the last few months. So as of October, we've
had we've had a store intower junction for ten years
in christ Church and then as of October one, we
set ourselves up at the Rickon and Park Driving Range,
which is a mini golf and our driving range and
also a big retail store, and as soon as that
was in shape, we went down to Morehouse. They have
(05:06):
to build arguably the biggest retail store in New Zealand
and we think Australasia. So it's been a crazy busy time,
but very very exciting for Golf and Crush each Oh.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Good on you because we do know, and we've said
it so many times on this program, how many more
people are playing.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
The game one hundred percent absolutely, it's yeah, straight out
of COVID. Really, we've just had a sort of incremental
increase and it's changed. It's a lot more people playing
for enjoyment a lot. It's become a little bit more relaxed.
There's a lot more young people. There's a lot more
women than in younger girls playing and it's really just
a it's sort of been reborn really and a little
bit of a twist to your current's natural. Yeah, it's
(05:43):
really just become i think a little bit more of
a thing to do for fun, which is fantastic.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Yes, without any any real to support it and.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Any real structure, So that that's what people you know
of that Elk are liking, just that they can walk
in and walk out no responsibility.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Yeah, I think so. And I think even at the
driving range where I'm right now, we'll have thirty bows,
and I think often in the evening time you'll have
twenty five of them filled with people that don't play golf.
They just enjoy heading golf wars. And we've got sort
of top trac of technology. So we've got screens in
the bays now that track the flight, you can play
games and it's a lot more interactive and yeah, there's
just a really big golf just seen us something to
(06:20):
do for fun now, which is absolutely awesome because it
only leads to more people picking up clubs and more
people outside paying sports. It's brilliant.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Absolutely well.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
I know that you'll be keeping your eye on that
New Zealand Open Golf opened down in Queenstown. It's certainly
not cutting any favors for our Kiwi's is it. And
you know with Cooper more missing the cuts, Nick missing
the cut, Danny Lee, but at least we've got Josh
Geary in there, and who knows what will happen, you
know when it comes to the Michael Henry as well,
(06:50):
of course when it comes to the business end, but
we'll certainly be keeping an eye on that, and I
know you will as well. Richie Barth, thanks so much
for coming to the phone.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Anything else we need to know.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
No, I think I think you're rightly. It's going to
be amazing. Today's the day, really, I mean, if he
keeps going the way he is going, it's hard to
believe anyone can catch him. But no, we've got a
few keywis right there. I think in the right place.
It's really it's another good day. Whether I think, yeah,
we'll know a lot more middle of the way through today,
whether any of those guys are going to run up
the leaderboard, I think yep, we'll be.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Keeping an eye on it, that's for sure. Thank you
so much. I know how busy you are.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
