Nadat u klaar bent met schamperen over de echtscheiding van de respectievelijk rijkste en machtigste man op aarde is het tijd voor de macro-economie en een Amerikaans banenrapport vanmiddag. Sinds de importheffingen is dat geen verplicht niemendalletje meer, maar een heuse recessiegraadmeter.
Place your bets! Recessievrees en dus renteverlaging, of toch een Fed die gewoon op het vinkentouw blijft zitten? U kent het probleem: inflatie stijgt door importheffingen, maar de economie remt af door importheffingen.
Economen verwachten 125.000 banen van het officiële rapport van de Amerikaanse overheid vanmiddag, analisten voegen eraan toe dat men beneden de 100.000 toch écht voor recessie begint te vrezen en dat de Fed opnieuw pas op de plaats maakt zodra het getal hoger uitkomt.
Maar wat betekent een lagere rente en een economie die afgezien van heffingen best goed draait dan voor inflatie op lange termijn wanneer de onzekerheid van heffingen een keertje gaat liggen? Juist: méér inflatie. En hoe reageert de Fed daar dan weer op? AARGGH! Dit is waarom Charlie Munger altijd zei dat hij zijn geld nooit inzette op macro-economische conclusies.
Ook uw beursnerd komt niet veel verder dan Stanley Druckenmiller als macro-tovenaar die daar wel toe in staat was. Maar ja, zeventigplussers die elke ochtend om vier uur eigen tijd opstaan om de terminal aan te zwengelen zijn redelijk uniek te noemen.
