This week on the show Ang is welcoming her very first guest, Dawn Rishard. Dawn is a marriage counsellor with 20 years of experience and specialises in helping people heal from within after the heartbreak of divorce. However, even with all of her skills and knowledge, she was unable to save her own marriage which ended in divorce after 27 years.  In this interview with Ang, Dawn shares her journey, both professional and personal, the key learning she took from her own divorce and how you can use her wisdom to help your healing process be that little bit smoother.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Dawn looks back on her 27 years of marriage and how, after seeing her parents' fairytale romance, her expectations were not met.
  • Dawn talks about the importance of taking responsibility for your own actions when your relationship is in trouble, and how both parties should do this, instead of just blaming each other.
  • One of the things that surprised Dawn the most when she went through her divorce was the new found wisdom she could impart on her children about relationships. She shares these learnings and the benefits that have come from them.
  • Dawn recounts the steps she took after her divorce in order to heal and move forward, and shares them with you, so that your ‘emotional rollercoaster’ may be an easier ride than hers.

BEST MOMENTS

“Nothing is ever black and white. There are so many layers because human beings are so complex.”

“The rest of your life is a long time, no matter how old you are.”

“50% of marriages end in divorce and 70% of divorces are initiated by women.”

ABOUT THE PODCAST

Do I Really Hate Men?

Interesting question and one I have asked myself many times. This is not an ‘I hate men’ podcast neither is it just an account of my divorce and the many awful events leading up to and during it. This podcast is a safe space to delve into what happens when relationships end, it provides guidance on how to carry on being a functioning adult and/or Single Mum when you feel broken inside.

This podcast provides hope sprinkled with humour, at times its emotional at times inspiring and at times sad. I have a message to share with women around the world, come join me and your global sisters for a weekly dose of Superhero Mum inspiration and stories.

My mission -to help women and mothers globally to recover from relationship pain,  lead meaningful happy lives and inspire their children to succeed.

NOTE – I need you to know that I don’t hate men! It’s important that you know there are many great men out there. Many fantastic fathers and single fathers trying hard to do a great job. I know little about the struggles of single fathers; however, I presume they are numerous common issues we share with these amazing men who strive to do the right thing by their children.
