Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Fison's Daily Morning Benz. Here's your hosts, Dave
Ross and Will Hill.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Okay, Will Hill have that coffee?

Speaker 1 (00:08):
You put sugar in it? No, good man.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
See that's I'm trying to get these young bucks like
damn money line. Note no sugar, look sugar. Get that
black coffee. Maybe a little creamer, but no sugar, America.
That's the end of the lecture. So as you're having
your coffee today, Will, and you look at some of
the games that are out there, and obviously the big
one will be for the women's national championship. Let's start

(00:35):
right there with you, excuse me, with Iowa going up
against South Carolina. So used to saying Yukon for the men,
you kind of almost got there for the women as well.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
But it is going to be the Caitlin Clark Show.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
We know South Carolina six and n half point favorites in
this one total right around one sixty.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
We're seeing here, how.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Do we how do we think the game's going to
play out? Because if we've been watching at least the
LSU games, certainly the Yukon game, it does feel like
we get this some of the parts for South Carolina,
and we get the one part of Iowa. Is that
one part of Iowa enough for you to take the
points in the six and a half.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
I don't think it is, And I just think naturally,
like without being an expert on this, just knowing more
about betting than I know about these teams, you're going
to pay an extra point or two on Iowa if
you like Iowa because Clark is so fun to roof for.
She's so fun to bet people that don't even watch
or know any about women's baskets. I don't want to
watch Kaitlin Ckark. I want to bet on Koklark. That

(01:30):
usually comes with a tax that usually influences the point spread,
where hey, they're gonna get hit with a lot of
public money, a lot of people betting Iowa that normally wouldn't.
So let's just move the line a point or two
where I actually think you're kind of getting a discount
here in South Carolina, either the money line or the
point spread.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
So I would look towards South Carolina this.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yeah, So I think what you're getting at, which is
a really a stude observation. If we were if the
tax of the Caitlin Clark tax was not there, what
should this number be?

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Nine, eight and a half, eight and a half nine,
I mean waiting three the past three years, they're what
thirty eight?

Speaker 3 (02:01):
And oh I actually thought this again the other night
with Yukon Iowa or that's kind of a toss up game.
Probably should have been to pick him, but hey, it's Clark,
so she's laying three, three and a half four, and
those points matter because it landed on two. But two, yeah,
it lands on two, So I think again, probably be
a little bit of attack. I kind of be rooting
for Clark. It's just a fun player to watch. I
kind of hope she gets over the hump and wins.

(02:22):
It's a fun little subplot because Iowa got knocked off
last year in the championship game, but they did beat
South Carolina, so somebody's gonna avenge last year. Give women's
basketball credit like they've they've done a nice job here.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
These games are fun to watch.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
That quality of play, obviously, you know it can be
lacking at times, but LSU Iowa's fun, Iowa Yukon was fun.
I was South Carolina's gonna be fun. So I don't
know what the level of interest will be in the
next year. Two once Clark goes away, but they've at
least set a foundation where, hey, we're talking about this
at this point of the show, where at the last
couple of years, you know, five years ago, three years ago,

(02:56):
we probably weren't talking about the women's title game as
much as we are now. So they certainly grow the sport.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yeah, they should probably get this memo over to Major
League Baseball how to market your sport, because I think
they've done a great job of doing just that. Great
storylines that you mentioned Don Staley trying to stay undefeated,
trying to venge that loss to Iowa. You know, it's
six and her Craws and also the other players that
are still there from South Carolina. So I'm with you.
The way I'm going to attack this game is I'm
going to wait until we get to that first TV timeout,

(03:23):
and you know, if South Carolina, you would think they
would come out strong if they jump on Iowa a
little bit early, and I remember Iowa did jump out
on LSU and kind of set that tone before the
pendulum swung there for LSU.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
I'm going to try to in game this.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Thing and see if I can get that nine and
a half ten that I think you should be getting
from Iowa.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
And again, it's going.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
To take a superhuman performance from Caitlin Clark, and she
is certainly capable of doing that, but you would think
that's what it was it would take to be the
all around team that South Carolina is. So I'm with
you on that. I feel like the six and a half
if you if you like South Carolina, you probably want
to take that right now because I don't know that
number is going to get a whole lot better for you.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
One more thing on that game, and I thought this
was the tweet we were going to go with. If
the sport's going to continue to grow, they need to
get in a position. I mean the media, I don't
mean anyone else. The media needs to get in a
position and they're the ones trying to grow the game
where they can criticize the players when they have a
bad game. Because I saw the Worldwide Leader the other
day after LSU Iowa, there was a headline.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Clark and Reese both dominate, but Iowa wins.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Like, wait a second, one of the girls had forty
one points, the other girl shot seven or twenty. Well,
it can't be you know, this is a little League
where everyone had a great game. That Reese is making
millions of dollars in IL.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
She's she's a big girl.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
She can handle like, hey, she had a bad game,
Like she's calling for the ball, Hey, get me the balls,
missing free throws, mister shot, when Brock Party throws interceptions
on Christmas or Lamar Jackson as a bad a. She
told her there's got to be skinning the game. There's
got to be stakes. It can't be everybody played great,
no matter what. The next step for that sporting. Look,
these girls get coach tard.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
They can take it.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Yeah, hey if they play, if they played poorly, they say, hey,
you know what, this girl played well, this girl didn't
pay Well, that's the next level for that sport, because
that's it's holding the sport back for like, hey, everybody
play a great game.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
You know nobody played poorly.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Got to get past that, well, said amen, I'll tell
you this.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
The coach people get outraged for the players all that
coach Kim Malky should being too tough. They don't seem
to mind.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
So if they're not gonna pointing, you don't have to
complain about it.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
I think that's a great point too, Let's be honest
in the evaluations of what we see and not sugarcoat
everything because we're trying to make this always positive.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
We get it's if you're.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Told on the sport, back it's told on the sport.
There's got to be skinning the game. There's got to
be stakes, there's got to be something in line, like, hey,
if you don't play well, you kind of you know,
you get labeled a choker. Like there's no legacy games
in these women's getting it's like everybody does well. There's
there's too much kick glove treatment. Hey, it's on the
national radar. You gotta be able to just like treat
it like any other sport.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Absolutely, and I'm sure there's gonna be no love loss
tomorrow night between Don Staley and Iowa in that rematch
from a year ago, So they're.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Gonna go at it hard. I hope everybody that.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Watches can evaluate as honestly and openly as Will just
pointed out.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
If we all know Clerk, if Clerk shoots three or
twenty tomorrow, it can be all Clark a great game.
You know, she played a bad game. It's okay to
say when they play bad games. It's we do it
for every other sports. It's got to get to that
level like that.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Yeah, if they if they check Caitlin Clark and she
only has sixteen points and she's we should be able
to say what happens. We should be able to objectively
look at the women's game like we do the men's game.
And again on Monday night, very quickly, we know now
it's going to be Purdue Yukon. Yukon is laying six
in their defense of their national championship. Game one is
that number as well. Again, talked a little bit about

(06:28):
it earlier in the program. But if you like Yukon
this morning, I don't know that number six is going
to be a whole lot better.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Right.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
If anything, we think it would go up, I'll.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Lay it with Yukon.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
I just think that Perdue that Edie and Klingon is
a bit of a wash and if it turns onto,
it turns into four on four, that is bad news
for Purdue.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Yukon is just a freight train.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
So I would expect it to be like these other
games with Yukon where there's moments in time in the
game where hey produce hanging with them it's tied, they're
up one. But Yukon has these runs that are just
what's the word. They are, so they're inevitable. Where you're
holding it off, you're holding it off, but you can't
hold it off forever. So I'm sure Yukon hits them
with one of these runs, and I do think Yukon

(07:10):
probably pulls away and wins the game. Are they really
going to go through two straight tournaments winning all these
games by double digits? I guess it's possible. I look
the late with Yukon and we talked about a South
Carolina Yukon moneyline parlay that pays likes minus one nineteen.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
I think it was Yep, that's a popular one. I
can't really argue against that one.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
I tend to agree with you if you want to
play the chalk. The chalk has been coming through for
you here lately. You can lower that price tag if
you light the South Carolina side with Yukon to a
dollar nineteen. Yankees back in action, early action against the
Blue Jays again. Luis Gill is going to be on
the bump here for the Pinstrippers in the boogie down
known as the Bronx win a dollar fifty five here
on the run line, the Yankees would be plus a

(07:50):
dollar thirty six. Bouden Francis is going to go for
the Jays. Their comeback is plus a dollar thirty if
you want to take them with the run and a
half minus a dollar sixty two. What do you make
it the Yanks here? Can they continue this hot stretch
here to begin the year.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Yeah, it's a little more expensive than I like, but
I'd look to lay it. I think gals throwing the
ball well in spring training. He's throw with one hundred
and one hundred two miles an hour. He's really I
think he's another guy had Tommy Johnny's come back, throwing harder,
commands a little better that Yankee lineup, do you think,
despite standing despite some of the weak spots in the lineup,
so don't judge. And you know they're more left handed,
they're more balanced. I actually like this Yankee lineup, so
I would, again, a little more expensive than i'd like.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
But I would I would look the lay with Yankees
very quickly.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Right now, looks like the Orioles and Pirates off the
good stars for both these teams, especially the Battle and Bucks.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Marco Gonzalez on the bump for the.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Pirates plus a dollar five Orioles, Boy, they're getting that
treatment now. Road favorites manas a dollar twenty five against
a good Buco team at least the beginning of the year.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
What do we make of the respect level that we're.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Seeing in the gambling market for the Orioles these days.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
I buy it they're really good.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
And I don't know if you've noticed their Triple A
team scores like twelve or thirteen runs every day they are.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Loaded in the farm system.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
I would go with the Orioles though, that was that
was a good game today, back and forth game this
two up and coming teams. Obviously, the Orioles are farther
along in their development, winning one hundred something games last year.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
I just think the Orioles have a different gear than
the Pirates.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
Pirates starting to get some respect to You can look
at it the other way, say, Pirates and Oilers are
one of the best teams in baseball, and the Pirates
are even money are just.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
About a point foot of them. So maybe you look
at it and say, hey, the Pirates are getting a
lot of respect here.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
I would look towards you or game of the day,
Sean and I is going to be on the hilltop
for the Metropolitans in Cincinnati against Andrew Abbott Mets miles
an hour two. Why are the Mets not two dollar
dogs every night out?

Speaker 1 (09:33):
This is where the run starts for the Mets. Nine
ten in a row. Here we go, new beginnings.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
I'm gonna cancel my tweet and then I'll just retweet.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
We'll never gonna lose again.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Are you gonna win the rest of the way
