Speaker 1 (00:00):
We often talk about AI at work, but what about
at home? From meal planning to laundry hacks to keeping
your kids entertained, AI can be so helpful in taking
the grind and the friction out of daily life and
also just making things a little bit more fun as well.
Today I am joined by Inventium's AI expert, Neo Applan,

(00:24):
and we are going to power through twenty five very
practical and some surprising ways that you can use AI to.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Improve your home life.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
So whether you want to save time, solve tricky problems,
or spark some creativity with your kids, this episode is
packed with some hacks that you can try straight away.
Welcome to How I Work, a show about habits, rituals,
and strategies for optimizing your day. I'm your host, doctor

(00:55):
Amantha Imber. Two years ago I completely overhauled How I
Work with Genai and I am now saving over forty
hours every single week. That is no exaggeration and that
is exactly why my company, Inventium, created the Genai Productivity Upgrade.
It's a twelve week course designed to move you from

(01:17):
Jenai dabbler to productivity machine. There is no fluff, just
practical strategies that will pay off from week one, saving
you at least ten hours every single week. We are
going to teach you how to automate the grant work,
use AI as your second brain to excel at your job.
Learn how to create AI agents that we knew back

(01:38):
hours every time you use them, and so much more so.
Whether you're a complete beginner or already using AI, we
have got you covered. We start with prompting fundamentals and
we go all the way through to advanced automations and
agentic AI. We kick off on October fifteen and spots
are limited. Visit inventium dot com, dot au, forward slash

(02:00):
hyphen cohort to secure your place now and yes that's
a long link. It's also in the show notes. If
you're looking for it and you've literally got nothing to lose,
there's a seven day money back guarantee. So go to
the show notes, hop on the link and join our
program today. So neo for something a little bit different.
Today we are going to I was about to say delve,

(02:21):
but then it sounds like AI's written by script. We're
going to go into a whole bunch of different use
cases for how we can get AI to help in
our home lives. So we are going to rapid fire
through a bunch of some of our favorite ideas. Do
you want to start start us off?

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah, food meals, shopping that's always a pain for people. Okay,
So the first one is you can use AI as
your fridge detective. So what I recommend is take photos
of your fridge and you can upload those photo. Obviously
with the fridge doors open, so we can see the food,
not that this is a fisher and pikele or whatever.

(03:02):
Take a photo of the food in your fridge while
you've got a full fridge. Now you might need to
take multiple photos so you can see of each of
the shelves there, and then'll give AI an indication of
the types of food you normally have. So it might be, oh,
I can see carrots, I can see lettuces in there,
I can see yoga, et cetera. It'll then give you
a baseline. Then when you've got a half empty fridge,

(03:23):
you can take a photo of that and then say
what am I missing? Compared that to the other one,
it builds your shopping list. Okay.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
My one is building smart grocery lists where you can
think about what are all the meals that you are
planning to cook this week. I know in a lot
of households, you know, Monday might be I don't know,
chickennut Chuesday might be socco juice nut taco Chuesday. Yeah,
or we have taco Friday, which is obviously not alliteration,
but it works for us. Now, what you can do

(03:53):
with those weekly recipes is you can turn it into
an optimized shopping list where you chuck in all the
ingredients that you need and then AI can then group
it by aisle, which makes for a very quick supermarket shop.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
It does need to know about your aisles in your supermarket.
You can always tell it that as well. Other ones
are budget friendly meals, so you can say, hey, look,
help me to do some meal prep. I want some
budget friendly meals under X number of dollars per night. Obviously,
be realistic with it, don't say it's a fifty cent meal.
But AI can then give you a whole bunch of

(04:26):
different recipe ideas. It's a great way to break out
of the recipe right as well.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Okay, next one is what to do with leftovers, particularly
if you've got, say, I don't know, some leftover bolinais
from making a lasagna the night before, and then you
can pop that into AI and ask for say three
creative ways to transform it into something new. And there's
a lot that you can do with bolin. AI's just fyi.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Another one is for those who have dietrees or maybe
you've got picky eaters in your family. So what you
can do is say, give us a base recipe and
then give me swaps for the dietaries or for the
picky things. And so you can then say, hey, look,
I've got someone with I don't know, gluten allergies or
an onion problem. How do I swap these kind of

(05:14):
things out? Or maybe someone who hates broccoli? How do
I swap these kind of things out?

Speaker 1 (05:18):
Okay, that's definitely not me because I love broccoli. All right,
let's move on to next category. We've got a few
around home organization and chores. So one of my favorites
I love a good declutter. And if you are someone
that maybe resists decluttering but know that you have to,
what you can do is you can upload photos of
the messy spaces, maybe a picture of your wardrobe, and

(05:41):
then you can prompt the AI to give you a
step by step decluttering checklist, just to make the process
as easy and painless as possible.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Another one is, I don't know, we'll call it the
laundry whisperer. Years ago there was this wonderful lady on
ABC who could tell you any stain you had how
to be able to get rid of that with things
like yogurt or lemon juice or these other things. Get
described the fabric, describe the stain, and then chech YOUPT

(06:13):
or the other AIS can give you stain removal instructions.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Okay, another one for cleaning when you've got guests coming over.
I just have this thing where I feel like everyone
else has a really clean house, because whenever you go
over to someone's house, it just looks all really organized,
and so I obviously feel pressure to do the same.
So what you can do is you can take a
photo of the space that you are trying to clean

(06:39):
and ask the AI to generate a fast fifteen minute
cleanup routine before guests arrive, which you can obviously reuse
assuming that you're not moving house. But I think that
one is quite fun. Okay, let's move on to a
few around family and parenting and pets. Do you want
to start this one off new.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Bedtime story generation. If you've got children who want a
different bedtime story every night, it can be quite fatiguing
to come up with a new one every night. Now,
what you can do is give it a person, Give
AI your child's name, maybe even a pet's name, and
some details about them and the things they want and
they like, and then get AI to generate a story

(07:23):
for them. Bonus points. You can also say, in the
style of so it's great saying, in the style of
doctor Zeus, do these kind of things. It'll then give
you a great story in the style of starring your child,
which I love.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
I love it for homework, Frankie. My daughter is eleven,
and the older she gets, the further she gets in school,
the more confused I sometimes feel about some of the
concepts that she has to learn about. And so AI
is great for just prompting it to explain this particular

(07:56):
concept that maybe neither of us understand in an age
appropriate friendly language. Very helpful for that when your kids
are coming home with concepts that are beyond you or
that you've completely erased from your memory.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
A quiz machine. So if your child is maybe a
bit older than Frankie needs a bit of practice before
a test or an exam, give the AI what the
problems are and what the lessons need to be, and
it can then create a quiz with Q and as
for your child, so it's like quick fire questions those
kind of things.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
And on that CHATBT has a learning mode as well.
Have you any advice for playing around with that.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
I haven't played with that much myself at the moment,
but yeah, a lot of people. I've seen reviews on
it and people do love it, so yeah, jump in there,
have a go okay now.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Final one on the family front. If you have got
an ex that you are co parenting with, sometimes writing
notes email communication with them can be a bit tricky,
particularly if things are acrimonious. AI is really great for
toning down emails into more neutral kind of language. Okay,

(09:06):
let's move on to health and well being a couple
of things here. Maybe I'll start this one off because
I use this quite a bit. So I do weight
training four times a week, and I'm very literate in
exercise and exercise physiology. But something I like playing around
with is putting in a persona. So my favorite you

(09:29):
know well being or fitness person at the time. You know,
put in people like Andy Gaplan for example, who I
really love his advice around exercise. I know Stacy Simms
is particularly popular at the moment for women, and getting
the AI to take on that persona and then I
describe me like my age, my goals, etc. And ask

(09:51):
them to write me like a weights program or a
fitness or an exercise program in that persona. I think
that is really cool and I've generated pretty cool exercise plans.
It is also really good for generating workouts. If you're
trying to work out at home, maybe you've got no equipment,
or maybe you've got minimal equipment, taking a photo of

(10:11):
that and asking it to create a program that you
can do with the equipment or lack thereof that you have.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
It's a great one for that. The other one people
do for health and fitness is meal macros and things
like that. So you can take a photo of a
meal even if you're out, and say, tell me about
the macros in this photo, and it's very good at
that actually, so you can analyze any food that you've got.
And also if you're with a back to the recipe idea.

(10:41):
You can say, here's the macros I want to hit.
Give me some recipes with those macros. So awesome for
meal logging and meal creation.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
Okay, a few ideas around, just like social life, so one,
if you are planning a party or a gathering. AI
is really great for coming up with creative solutions to
the theme, menu, decorations, a theme appropriate playlist, very helpful
for that.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Gifts tell it more about the person, of course, but
say here's the person, here's what they're into, here's the
budget I've got, and give me some ideas for gifts,
because I love gift giving. But man, it's hard coming
up with good gift ideas. So that's a handy one there.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
I think a lot of people have probably used it
for travel planning already. But if you describe your situation,
who you're traveling with, the ages of those people, the hobbies,
the things that they're into, and obviously where you're going,
and how long you've got and what your budget is,
you can get a pretty decent itinerary, particularly using perplexity.
Here would recommend perplexity for that one.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Yep, give it the dates and all those kind of things.
It'll find out if there's events in the place at
that time as well. Here's one board game rules explainer
who loves reading those damn instructions for a board game.
Get AI to simplify and explain what the board game
rule are. Fewer arguments, everyone gets along and it summarizes
it easier for a lot of people.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Okay, let's talk about admin and just like everyday productivity,
AI really good as a household budget assistant. So if
you are trying to stick to a weekly budget or plan,
really easy to either ask AI to ask you all

(12:26):
about your expenses, or you can upload things like photos
of bills or you know, other regular payments, maybe your
credit card statement. Obviously, make sure that you are not
sharing the information with the powers that be, so just
check your security controls on that one. But very helpful
for you know, putting together a good budget.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Admin email drafter. We all need to create emails. Sometimes
they're a bit annoying or tricky to put together a
one that's polite but firm. So it might be to
your landlord or to your real estate agent. Might be
be your school or neighbors about their dog is barking.
How do I politely them to tone it down, get
AI to write your polite but firm email, tell it

(13:05):
the style and tone you want, and it will then
take you a couple of dot points and flesh it
out for you nicely and polite.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
I also find it's very good for just checking clauses
in contracts that you know you don't necessarily need to
pay a lawyer for. Like, let's just say you're getting
photography done at a big event, for example, you can
just run that contract through the AI and just ask
it to highlight any you know, watch out clauses or
things that maybe you might want to request a change of. Okay,

(13:33):
final category, just some additional everyday helpers. Really, so, I'm
sure we've all had products that have broken and we're wondering,
what does the warranty say? Is this covered under warranty?
And who knows? Because warranties normally really find print and
annoying to read. So upload a PDF or a manual

(13:56):
or the actual warranty sheet of paper into AIL and
just ask it what does that warranty actually say in
plain English?

Speaker 2 (14:05):
And also put in you where you are, your location,
where you bought it, your jurisdiction, because that'll also be
able to tell you what your laws and rules say
about warranties as well. Another one is plant identification and
care tips. I'm terrible with plants. I keep on making
them brown, So take a photo of the plant. AI
will identify what kind of a plant it is, and

(14:25):
then ask it what's going wrong with this plant, and
then it'll tell you whether you're over wandering, underwatering, and
all those things.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Okay, I'm going to give the last two one. One
final one is a wardrobe stylist. So if you are
someone that just has decision fatigue when you are trying
to decide on what to wear, upload some photos of
the items of clothing in your wardrobe and ask it
to generate some fresh and interesting outfit combos for you.

(14:53):
Also good for packing lists as well. And one final one.
I'm sure we've all had that situation where you cannot
find your keys or your phone, although Apple Watch does
help identify it with the sound or your passport or whatever. Chat,
GPT and the other ais are very useful for giving
a systematic sort of search plan for finding it. I

(15:16):
tried this the other day. It applies behavioral science and
it asks intelligent questions and gives good ideas. So I
do recommend that if you've lost something important so that
was a rapid fire through a bunch of home newscases,
hope that there was at least one thing in there
that maybe you haven't thought of and might want to
use today. I hope you have found at least one,

(15:38):
if not more AI hacks that you can apply today
to improve your home life. And hey, if you've enjoyed
this conversation, please share it with a friend or family
member who also might be interested in experimenting with AI
in their personal life. And if you're looking to take
your AI skills up to the next level. Inventium's GENAI
