Michael Roy, aka Birdcap makes whimsical and cartoon-like characters influenced by both historical paintings and street art His work is a product of the south, (he grew up in Mississippi) both a love letter to the region he calls home and a challenge to its problems. He creates densely colored scenes that slide between references to Jim Henson and the Crossing of the Delaware. In this episode we talk about his start painting on walls in Korea; his mentors; his projects "The Grief Manual" and "Iliumpta"; advice for anyone starting out making murals and a lot more.
