Een jaar lang doet journalist Rita Baroud voor NRC verslag vanuit Gaza, terwijl om haar heen Israëlische bommen vallen en de honger toeneemt. Via een dagboek deelt ze haar verhaal en ze houdt nauw contact met correspondent Lucia Admiraal, die zelf Gaza niet in mag. Maar dan krijgt Rita groot nieuws: ze kan Gaza ontvluchten. Afgelopen weekend ontmoetten Rita en Lucia elkaar voor het eerst in levende lijve.
