Taking you back, but keep you present as the latest podcast has quite a bit to reflect and look forward to when it comes to the sports world. On deck:
(3:47) I kick off the podcast reminiscing of a spring and summer in New York 30 years ago that had the city buzzing. Both the New York Rangers and New York Knicks made deep postseason runs where they made it to the seventh game of the Finals. As we know, one team won (the Rangers), the other team lost (Knicks). Fast forward to today where the teams that reside in Madison Square Garden are just two wins away from the Conference Finals. Could we possibly see a similar run for both teams in 2024? I’ll break down the Knicks-Pacers series to date as they’re up 2-0 at the moment. While the Rangers play a Game 3 tonight in Carolina, leading 2-0 as well.
(25:13) As for the rest of the NBA playoff landscape, the defending champion Denver Nuggets are on the ropes down 0-2 to the upstart Minnesota Timberwolves. Can they get back in the series as they dodged a bad situation gone worse with Jamal Murray not suspended for his actions throwing a heating pad onto the court? Will the Celtics and Thunder take care of the Cavaliers and Mavericks in quick fashion after dominant Game 1 performances?
(32:58) On the ice, the Florida Panthers tied their series with the Boston Bruins as the scene shifts to Beantown. Is that going to end up going seven games? Will the Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers rebound after giving up three goal leads in losing Game 1 to Colorado and Vancouver respectively?
(44:15) We’re still two and a half weeks away from Memorial Day. Is it possible that the Houston Astros will NOT be a part of the playoff mix in the American League? It may be premature as we’re only six weeks into the baseball season, but the thought is surely there. I’ll share the reasons why it should be a part of our consciousness as they are in last place in the AL West as of this moment. I’ll also get into the Pittsburgh Pirates bringing up their #1 pick from last year, Paul Skenes as there’ll be a lot of hype surrounding his first start forthcoming. The Braves have gotten big time contributions from Chris Sale as he pitched six scoreless innings with 10K’s against his former teammates in the Boston Red Sox. And how about Marcell Ozuna? He’s leading the MAJORS in home runs and RBI’s in this early part of the season. I’ll see what the weekend looks like on the schedule if there are some interesting matchups to keep an eye on.
