So we're excited to have ithappen We'd like to introduce
mom to the podcast Nice.
Well, we have mom here todaybecause we wanted to play a game
and it was more fun with you Twoteams of two and it could keep
me out and it allowed me toprepare.

(00:59):
Said game.
So here's what we're gonna play.
I don't know what it's called,but we're, we're gonna call it
the adulting decrypted quiz.
Whoa.
Fancy.
I know a good name.
What we're gonna do is there'sfive questions that take us
through the years of adultingdecrypted, and everyone's gonna
get a chance to answer andwe'll, we'll kind of hash out
some topics that we've talkedabout.
Teams, here's your rules.

Dad (01:19):
well first off who are the teams?

Ashton (01:21):
Oh, yeah, that's fair.
Let's see.
We have team one team two teamone introduce yourselves and
tell us your team name team two.
That'll give you a second.

Gideon (01:28):
Hey, I'm Gideon this is my teammate

Gene (01:30):
Jean and We

Gideon (01:33):
are the chicken bakes

Ashton (01:35):
That's a great name.
And, dear I mean, Chicken Bakes, what would you say your team
philosophy is?
Like, if someone was like, whois the Chicken Bakes?
What would you say you are?
Dude,

Gideon (01:46):
we're no chickens.
We bake it.

Ashton (01:49):
I love that.
We're tan,

Gene (01:51):
and we are just absolute units.

Ashton (01:54):
We're no chickens.
We're baked tan units.
Got it sir.
I've got that saved.
All right team two.
Let's hear it.
What's your team name?
And well first off we have totell you who we are

Dad (02:05):
I'm the dad and I'm the mom and we're team parents and

Ashton (02:10):
I'm gonna call it team apparent cuz that's funny.
All right, wait, you didn't askus our philosophy.
Oh, yeah What's your philosophyteam apparent?

Dad (02:17):
Michelle you get to you get to tell the first part of it

Mom (02:20):
Our philosophy is

Dad (02:22):
Mom believes in being kind and I believe in kicking your
track.

Ashton (02:25):
Yo, let's go! It's a well balanced

Gene (02:30):
team.
First they're sweet, thenthey're sour.

Ashton (02:32):
Oh, Team Apparent is sour patchin it.
so, here's what's gonna happen.
I've got five questions.
If you give me a perfect answer, you get Three points.
If you give me a close ishanswer, I get to use my
discretion to give you one ortwo points.
And you'll know that I had youpull up Type Racer because I

(02:55):
thought it'd be entertaining tohave you guys race each other.
And each round we'll play oneround of Type Racer for an extra
bonus point.
Okay?
so to start it off and to seewho starts in the lead, we're
gonna play one game of TypeRacer.
So team chicken bake

Gideon (03:09):
team

Ashton (03:10):
apparent pick your fighter who is going to
participate in the first race

Mom (03:15):
The dad

Ashton (03:16):
the dad's in the first race.

Gene (03:18):
You know what I'll go on this race Okay, because both of
us know that we're not gonnabeat dad But I'm sure Gideon can
beat mom

Gideon (03:26):
Okay, okay.
Okay.
He

Ashton (03:27):
didn't he didn't say we had a rotate did everyone click
into the race?
It still says I'm the only onein here.
There it is, I got someone else.
Who's the orange car?
That's me.
Alright, and Dad's the yellow

Gideon (03:37):
car?
Actually, Gene, you are thegreen car.
I

Dad (03:41):
see an orange and a red.
Oh.
And a green.

Ashton (03:45):
Okay, so all the colors should differ, that's okay.
Just remember your word perminute.
You'll have you under it.
I am in there too.
Oh, then I'm orange.
If you beat me, I'll give youtwo points instead of one.
Ready for this?
Alright.
It's gonna count down.
Ten,

Gideon (03:58):
nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, You can build
a prison of stone and steel, butyou merely present the prisoner
with a challenge.
Any truly determined man willfind a way out.
I figured I could just share alittle bit of what we're typing.
That is what we're typing.

(04:18):
So mom, what's your favoritecolor?
Blue.

Mom (04:20):
How about

Gideon (04:21):
you?
You know, I didn't think thisthrough.
Blue's a cool color.
Why do you like blue, mom?

Mom (04:27):
It reminds me of the ocean.

Gideon (04:28):
Oh, that's cute.

Ashton (04:29):
Well, it looks like our first race is coming close to a
conclusion.

Gideon (04:33):
It's close.

Dad (04:34):
I should probably clean my screen.
I saw a couple periods in therethat weren't existent.

Ashton (04:39):
Alright, well, so that is one the appearance, and one
gets a double

Gene (04:46):
All right.
So I'm going to say is I didn'tget my high score in words per
minute of 32.
So that's awesome.
You got,

Ashton (04:54):
you got 32.
Dad got 55 50 and I got an okayscore.
It was 77.
Okay.
So here's the first question.
I've done better.
I've done better.
Okay.
In our episode, keeping itclean.
How long after completing aproject did Gideon say he left

(05:15):
his room dirty?
This is a quote directly fromthe episode.

Gideon (05:19):
Can you repeat the question?
Yes.

Ashton (05:21):
So, in this episode, we were talking about the
importance of keeping clean andkeeping our spaces nice so we
could be creative andproductive.

Dad (05:30):
I remember he always smells this towel before he uses it.
Is that worth the bonus point?

Ashton (05:34):
Did I say that?
No, we're gonna keep that oneout, yeah.
But that's, that's a valuable,important thing to remember,
okay?
So We were talking about, youknow, habits and how sometimes
when we do stuff, we might notclean up after ourselves.
Gideon said, yeah, for example,I might work on a Lego project
and I'll leave my room dirty forblank.

(05:56):
What was the period of time thatGideon said he would leave his
room dirty?

Gideon (06:01):
Is it closest without going over?

Ashton (06:03):
Yes.

Gene (06:05):
Gideon, I like how you're the one most concerned about
this.
If you

Ashton (06:07):
both go over, I'll give the point to whoever's closest.
I'm gonna give you a countdowntimer.
Dude, do you know?
Ten.
Nine.
This was your quote! Eight.
Seven.
Six.
Five.
Four.
Three.
Two.
One.
Let's reveal your answers, and Ithink, on three.
One, two, three, flip! Threedays.

(06:27):
Across the board.
Three days

Gideon (06:29):
each.
Dad did say forever though.

Ashton (06:32):
He did put forever first.
Oh, we're in a tie.
Okay.
I'll tell you this.
You're both wrong.
You're both not open.
So I'll let you go one moretime.
Okay.
And if we, hopefully we can getdifferent answers this time.
This time you only have fiveseconds.
Five, four, three, two, onetime.
All right.

(06:52):
Three, two, one flip.
Five days a week.

Gideon (06:56):
Well, wait.
Dad said forever plus five days.
That is way over.

Ashton (07:01):
He's just calling you out for never cleaning your
room, boss.
That's infinity plus five.
He's

Mom (07:05):
just doing artwork.

Ashton (07:06):
Well, Gene wins with a week.
Quoted exactly from the episode.
You ready for this?
This is gonna be fun.
Yeah, and I think it's reallyimportant to remember cause I
know I definitely do that in myown.
In my own room at least.
I'll spend a day doingsomething, some sort of project,
and then the trash and leftoveris left out until a month later
when I'm, Oh, this, this hasbeen annoying.

(07:28):
So the correct answer is amonth.
Oh my goodness.

Gene (07:32):
So do we get two points or only one?
I'll give, I'll give you twobecause you guys

Ashton (07:37):
tied the first time.

Gideon (07:39):
Hold the phones,

Ashton (07:40):
Gideon said he leaves trash in his room for at least a
month.
So, let's Where'd

Gideon (07:44):
you get your first answer from?
What do you mean?
When you said a week.

Ashton (07:49):
He was closest.
That was my answer.

Gideon (07:51):
Well, yeah, but didn't you say that was moving on, I
guess?
I was the most

Ashton (07:56):
correct out of the two of us.
So, so the episode was alltalking about keeping it clean,
and since the four of us havekind of weighed in, Mom What
would you say, why is itimportant to keep a clean space,
a clean home?

Mom (08:08):
Well, I find that when it's clean, you just feel better
about yourself and you canactually find things and don't
get frustrated when things aredirty.

Ashton (08:17):
I agree.
I definitely have gotten thatfrustration of like, oh my gosh,
I can't find something.
Or like if you're tense and thena piece of trash falls over, you
just want to hit something.
I don't know Trying to connectI'm not used to you being here.
I don't know how to deal withit.

Mom (08:34):
Am I making you nervous a little bit?
Yeah,

Ashton (08:36):
all right.
Everyone feel like we'veproperly covered that.
I don't know adulting host Doyou guys want to talk about
keeping it clean at all?

Mom (08:42):
So Gideon, is it still a month

Gideon (08:45):
mom?
Actually, you complimented metoday earlier.
Oh, your room is so clean.

Mom (08:50):
You did just barely clean it But when did you clean it
before?

Gideon (08:54):
I don't want to talk about it.
I don't know.
As clean as like as deep as Ihad just cleaned it.
Definitely more than a month.
Nice.

Ashton (09:06):
Now it's time for the bonus point round.
If you raced last time, youdon't get to race this time.
So join on in that race.

Mom (09:15):
I hope you have something else to talk about while I'm
typing.
It's

Ashton (09:18):
a, it's a long marathon.
Okay.
It's a long one.
Who hasn't joined?
Gideon, have you not joined?
We joined first.
I'm on this.
Okay.
Oh, there it is.
Okay.
Here we go.
And we are

Gideon (09:28):
starting the race.
Where's the prompt?
I don't have a prompt.
Did you click join race?
I didn't join.
Well.
We often believe the more

Gene (09:35):
we practice a skill or technique over and over again,
many times, the better we'llget.
But this is not necessarilytrue.
In fact, every time you practicea technique,

Ashton (09:50):
I figured out how to join.

Gene (09:52):
Incorrectly, you're increasing your chance of doing
it wrong again.
It's easy to become veryexperienced at repeating the
same mistake.
Practice doesn't make perfect.

Gideon (10:05):
Only perfect practice makes perfect.
I haven't finished

Gene (10:10):
yet, I'm sorry.
So dad, how do you feel aboutthat statement of only

Gideon (10:15):
perfect practice makes perfect?

Dad (10:19):
I think very few things in life are truly perfect, but I
think the better we put forththe effort during a practice, we
will get better results in saidgame or situation.
And that's why it's verycritical that As you're planning
a game or you're striving toperform or do something that you
actually take it serious andthat you try and perform at your

(10:39):
highest level, because then whengame time comes, you'll do the
best that you're capable ofdoing.
You know, the, the interestingword there was perfect to me,
Jane, because I don't believethere's any such thing as true
perfect practice, but I believethere's good and consistent
practice.

Gene (10:54):
Yeah.
That phrase kind of reminds meof how you were teaching me
about golf swings and how whenI'm doing the motion, even when
I'm doing my warmup or practiceswing, I have to do it how I
want to actually do it.
When I hit the ball, I can'tjust start from the middle and
then go to the follow through.
You got to do everything how youwant it.

Ashton (11:14):
And you know, something that goes along with that too,
that I quote was preached toabout when I was in college was
excellent.
Not perfection There's adifference between the two you
can be have an excellentPerformance in whatever you're
doing, but it doesn't havedoesn't mean it was perfect.
It just means it was top tier

Dad (11:32):
You know and gene it's quite interesting I like the
golf analogy because we werejust doing that the other night
when I realized it that you weredoing just kind of a Back half
swing and trying to followthrough because you're looking
at one part of your techniqueYou And it was linking the whole
thing.
So that's a great observationfor trying to link a whole
processor project together.

Gideon (11:51):
Let me just say that I was using Gene's computer and
the backspace is in a differentspot that I'm used to.
So I kept trying to spambackspace and it just spammed
different letters.
I just wanted to say that for myawful performance.
Moving on.

Ashton (12:05):
Okay, very well.
So.
The point goes to Gideon and hisawful performance.

Gideon (12:10):
It's true.

Ashton (12:11):
Okay.
We're going to switch up thegame for the next one.
I have a new plan, but that wasfun.
Now everyone's got to turn.
Not fun.
I had fun with it.
I'm a nerd.
I could play that game for funon my own.
All right.
I didn't mean to pick on Gideontwice, but that's just kind of
how it happened.
In the episode, the languages oflove, we all took a love
language test.
The question is, what wasGideon's top love language?

(12:34):
If you get it right, you getthree points.
And for every following lovelanguage in order, I'll give you
another point.

Gene (12:40):
If

Ashton (12:41):
you guys want to know all of the love languages, I'll
list them off for you realquick.
Yes, please.
In no particular order.
You have Words of affirmation, physical touch, acts of service,
quality time, and gifts.
Those are the love languagesthat we took our test on.
Give us percentages of how muchof those we had.

(13:01):
Do

Dad (13:01):
I, do I get a bonus if we get both Gene and Gideon's?

Ashton (13:05):
Sure.

Gideon (13:06):
No.
I'm the host here.
Can we get bonus points if weguess both Gene and Gideon?
You heard Gene and Gideon.
No, you heard Gideon.
What if I guess yours and Dad's?

Ashton (13:14):
I don't know what mine was and I don't know what Dad's
was.
I do.
No, you don't.

Gideon (13:17):
Yes, I do.
No, you don't.
I know Dad's too.
No, you don't.

Dad (13:24):
Okay, no bonus points will be given.
Just let us know when you'reready for us to reveal our
answers.
Alright, here

Ashton (13:28):
we go.
The reveal.
In.
Well, actually, we should, weshould do these in order.
Okay, so on the count of three,Mom and Gideon, I want you to
say what the top one was.
Here we go.
Three, two, one.
Quality time.

Gideon (13:43):
Yeah, quality time.

Ashton (13:45):
That's correct! Yay! You both get three points.

Mom (13:49):
I said it first, so I should get four.

Ashton (13:52):
Well, we were just doing it at the same time.
It's okay.
Alright, so, now here comes thenext fun part.
Mom, in order, oh, did you guysnot do the rest of them?
You could get bonus points ifyou guys said all of Gideon's in
order.

Gideon (14:04):
Yep, he did say that.

Ashton (14:05):
This was mentioned.
I'll list them off again, youcan try.
Okay.
Haha.
You have to get, actually I'mchanging the rule though, you
have to get them all in order.

Mom (14:13):
Three?

Ashton (14:14):
So here's, here's all the love languages that we did.

Mom (14:16):
Are they all the love languages in order?
Or just the top three?
All

Ashton (14:19):
of the love languages in Gideon's order.
Of like, that they were lovelanguages to him.

Dad (14:25):
She's asking, did it go to all seven different love
languages?
Yeah.
Or does it only go out to three?

Ashton (14:30):
There's five love languages.
It was all five.
And they all added up to 100percent of his love language.
Yeah, but quality

Dad (14:36):
times

Ashton (14:36):
two words.

Dad (14:37):
So

Ashton (14:37):
give me

Dad (14:37):
that.

Ashton (14:38):
Okay.
Okay, quality time.
Here's all of them in noparticular order.
Quality time, acts of service, gifts, physical touch, words of
affirmation.
I'll read them one more time.
Quality time, physical touch, acts of service, gifts,

Gideon (14:56):
Words of affirmation.
You have to get them all inorder to get the bonus point.
Quality time.
Words of

Ashton (15:03):
affirmation.
Gifts.
Physical touch.
Acts of service.
Those are all five of them.
Seven if you make quality timeand actually there's so many
more words than seven.

Gene (15:14):
Quality time you can make into two.
Acts of service is now three.
Alright,

Ashton (15:18):
let's hear Gideon's list first.
No, you don't get any more time.
You're done.
Gideon, this is yours.
You should already know this byheart.
You were surprised

Mom (15:25):
I didn't already have it.

Ashton (15:26):
If you one second me one more time, you don't get a
chance towards these points.

Gideon (15:30):
Tell me them in order.
So, the order that I haveQuality time is first.
Words of affirmation second.
Acts of service third.
Touch fourth.
Gifts is fifth.

Ashton (15:42):
Interesting.
Alright.
Mom, dad, let's hear what yougot.

Mom (15:45):
Quality time.
Okay.
Words of affirmation.
Alright.
Physical touch.
Alright.

Dad (15:51):
acts of service.
The gifts.

Ashton (15:53):
Nice.
Well, I hate to tell you guysthis, but no one gets the bonus
point.
Fun fact, Gideon's five lovelanguages, in order of
importance to him, according tothe quiz, was quality time,
Physical touch, words ofaffirmation, acts of service,
then gifts.

Gideon (16:10):
I was so wrong.
I was so

Dad (16:12):
close.
I forgot that he was dating agirl at the time, so I messed up
the physical touch part.
It was supposed to be higher.

Ashton (16:19):
So Anyone want to speak on the importance of, of knowing
your love language?
We kind of, we talked about itin the episode.
I mean, mom, we can pick on youbecause you weren't there for
it, but anyone can jump in ifthey want to.

Gene (16:30):
I know I'll jump in because I hosted that episode,
so it is nearer and dearer intomy heart than other ones just
because it was one that Ihosted.
One reason why I think it'simportant even now is not only
knowing your own, but also beingable to figure out others.
Because if you know how you showlove and you're able to figure

(16:50):
out how They feel that love Youcan be able to match those up So
that they're feeling the lovethat you're trying to express if
quality time is the highest likeit was for I think all of us at
the time

Ashton (17:02):
Do you remember that?
Yeah,

Gideon (17:03):
it was all of us

Gene (17:04):
And say it was on the bottom of someone else's and
they were more into gifts Thanus hanging around with them all
the time, they'd be like, yeahYeah, sure, they, they like me,
but they, they don't, I don'treally feel that love.

Gideon (17:14):
Hm.

Gene (17:15):
Even though to us, it's like, oh yeah, I'm spending all
the time with them, like, I lovethem.
that's why I think it's

Gideon (17:19):
important.

Ashton (17:20):
I like that.
Thanks.
Anything anyone wants to add tothat?

Gideon (17:23):
Yeah,

Dad (17:23):
I think I was surprised on Gene's at that time.
His high up there, probablynumber two, was GIFs, and, and I
know that after we learned that,It was very helpful for mom and
I when Gene was on his missionthat we knew to send him some
more gifts than we Probablywould have otherwise and
actually mom still did it Shejust sent him a gift a couple
weeks ago when he was down atcollege

Mom (17:44):
I did I wanted to make sure that I included something for
st.
Patrick's Day or Easter just alittle it doesn't even have to
be much but just something toshow that you're thinking

Ashton (17:53):
Nice I like that.
It might have helped too when hewas on his mission.
He was still in the country Soyou didn't have to work through
a third party.
That was very helpful For thosewho don't know I was in
Australia and mom was reallygood at finding the Neighbors
and friends in there to send mestuff.

Mom (18:07):
My perfect angels.

Ashton (18:08):
Yep All right.
We're switching up the game Ihave sent a new email link and
this time we're playing a gamethat most will be familiar with
called Wyrtle And it's whicheverteam.
Have you played today's word allalready?
Yes, I have.
All right.
You are, have to abstain and youcannot help

Gideon (18:23):
Dang yet.
I love it.
Mom.
Dad,

Ashton (18:25):
you haven't played today's word all yet, have you?
I don't even know what it's,have not.
Whichever team can guess.
The word in the least amount ofguesses wins.
So here's how it works.
I'll just read those out aseveryone's reading them.
So how to play.
You guess it in six tries.
Each guess must be a valid fiveletter word.
The color of the tiles willchange to show you how close
your guess was to the word.
And that's it.
If none of us get the word inthe tries whoever gets the most

(18:48):
correct letters will win.
Correct spots will be worth twopoints.

Gideon (18:52):
What is the game?
I don't, I

Dad (18:54):
mean, looking at this, I don't even know where you start.

Ashton (18:56):
So just type in on your keyboard, the letters for the
word and then press enter whenyou want to submit a guess.
You're not allowed to play, oryou'll be disqualified.
He spelled

Gideon (19:05):
opera wrong.
I was helping him out.

Ashton (19:08):
He knew what I was trying to spell.
So then

Dad (19:09):
what do you do?
You hit enter and see if it'sright?

Ashton (19:11):
Yeah, and it should highlight the tiles.

Dad (19:14):
Okay, so if we got the first four letters right, should
they all be orange?

Ashton (19:18):
The more you talk about this, the more hints you give
Gene, so just be careful.

Mom (19:22):
The gray ones are letters that are not included, and this
is in the word, but it's not inthat part.

Ashton (19:28):
And then the green ones, which you've got a ton of, I'm
sure mean they're in the rightspot and the right letter.

Gene (19:34):
Gideon is cringing so hard at my

Gideon (19:36):
I'm not cringing, I'm just not looking.

Ashton (19:39):
So that you don't give any away.
How is

Gene (19:40):
there a word with no

Ashton (19:41):
vowels in it?

Gideon (19:43):
It's based on the other vowels.

Ashton (19:45):
Oh

Mom (19:45):
my gosh.

Ashton (19:46):
Wait, Gene, plug your ears real quick.

Mom (19:47):
We could still use the E.

Ashton (19:49):
Alright, what do you guys have right now on your
second word?
What word are you on?

Gideon (19:53):
All right, what word did you just put in?

Ashton (19:55):
All right, guess we're not doing fine.
It's fine.
All right, never mind Gene, justkeep playing the game.
I was trying to do like a midgame interview, but they're
focused That's why I had himplugging his ears, it's okay
just keep playing the gameGideon, let's talk for a second

Gideon (20:09):
Yeah, I want to talk about the word

Ashton (20:11):
No, no, no, let's talk.
Let's talk about did you get theword?
Almost One letter off.
Oh, he's one letter away.

Gideon (20:19):
We're in guess three

Ashton (20:20):
Oh, oh, here's hoping you can figure out what those
three letters are, or one letteris.
Alright Gideon.
So, This wordle actually isgoing to work out pretty well,
because the next question isgoing to fall right into it.
So you and I are going to play aminigame.

Gideon (20:35):
Yeah.

Ashton (20:36):
Can you guess what our next.
Question's gonna be about

Gideon (20:40):
Yes I can.
I'm not gonna say it though.

Ashton (20:43):
What's your guess?
It doesn't matter.
It doesn't mean what?
The question, it's not gonnatell you what the question is.
We're done.
Boom.
Got it.
Okay.
We got it.
Third try.
Third.
What?
The free, what your

Gideon (20:53):
spread.
Lemme see.
Turn that computer around.

Dad (20:56):
It has already locked this out.

Gideon (20:58):
You can just click the X.

Ashton (21:00):
All right.
So let's hear the past, how yougot there, gene.

Gene (21:02):
So I started with opera and so it said E and a was
correct.
And so I was like, crazy secondguess.
You know what teams teams, causethat how it's both of them.
And I said, Oh yeah, S is partof it.
And so I was like, Hmm, let'sgo.
S H a M E shame.

(21:22):
Well, it was a shame.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then that didn't work and Iwas like, well, okay.
What other word do I know andit's like Shade and you said
like oh, yeah, it's part of thenext episode like oh, it's gonna
be about haircare or somethinglike that So I'm like, it's
shave.
All right

Ashton (21:37):
Unfortunately, the word a world answer has nothing to do
with our episode But the factthat it is wordle is part of
anyway what were you guys'sguesses?
How'd you get there?

Mom (21:46):
We started with audio nice class about

Ashton (21:49):
my favorite starting point from you.
Yep

Mom (21:52):
And then the dad put in saver.
Oh,

Dad (21:56):
because it had both the other two stupid vowels.

Ashton (22:00):
I've never

Mom (22:01):
heard of

Ashton (22:01):
quality of vowels, but that's fair.

Mom (22:04):
And so we knew that I had to start with an S.
And so I, with the A V E, Ifigured it had to be at the
other end.

Dad (22:12):
But she kept putting an X in there and it was pissing me
off cause I didn't see an X.

Mom (22:16):
I was using that as a play saver.

Ashton (22:19):
You learned, we, we've played this a lot.
Yeah.
Yeah.

Gideon (22:23):
We play it during sacrament meetings.
On occasion.
Nice.

Ashton (22:26):
I've given the point to Team Apparent.
Here's the question.
In season one, episode five, wedid a word debate.
The final words we debated wereshould versus need.
When prompted for the firstsentence that came to mind, in
reference to the word, The wordshould, what was Gene's answer?

(22:47):
What sentence did he give whenprompted to give

Gideon (22:50):
a sentence that included the word should?
Ready, set, go.
I like Gene's guess better thanmy own.
We're going with Gene's.
I don't even know if this iscorrect.
I remember it's something that.
Yeah, no, me neither.
But that was four years ago.
Alright, do we all have ourguesses?

Ashton (23:09):
Alright who would like to reveal first?
I can.
Alright,

Gene (23:13):
Gingo.
I don't know if it's correct,but I know it was something that
we said a lot.
It was, don't shud all overyourself.

Ashton (23:18):
Ooh, that's a good answer.
Alright.
It's up there,

Gideon (23:22):
Steve.
It's up there.
Team

Ashton (23:24):
apparent?
Good answer, good answer, goodanswer.

Dad (23:26):
I should turn off my phone.

Ashton (23:28):
Ooh, that's a good answer too.

Gideon (23:31):
It's not up there, Steve.

Mom (23:33):
Yes, it is.

Ashton (23:34):
We're going to give Team apparent the point.
I swear if mine was right forbeing close because you guys
Started with the right two words

Mom (23:47):
I should

Ashton (23:47):
shave All right quickfire whoever gets it first
gets another point I shouldshower no I should do my
homework.
Oh there it is Gene said heshould do his homework.
Okay, so we talked about shouldversus need You Do you remember
why we talked about it?
Anyone want to weigh in on thedifference between should and
need real quick?

Gideon (24:06):
Like if you should do something versus if you need to
do something.

Ashton (24:09):
And why was it, it was really important to me at the
time, I guess I can talk aboutit, but I'm kind of curious what
we remember, it was a while ago.

Dad (24:16):
It was about how to get motivated and not, not shame
yourself for actions you're notdoing.
And so the whole concept is thatinstead of should, oh, I should
do this and I should do that.
And then to Gene's point, Ishouldn't should all over
myself.
So instead it was time to stopand say, I need to do this and I
want to do this and I get to dothis.

Ashton (24:39):
Yeah, that's exactly what it was.
That was really important to me.
Because that was a big, alearning point for me.
That's why we talked about it.
Anyone else want to weigh inthat before we move on?

Gideon (24:50):
No, I like that.
Okay.

Ashton (24:53):
Well, our next game, Something I'm trying to figure
out.
If I can make it work.

Gideon (24:59):
Please don't make it another New York times game.

Ashton (25:02):
Have you played all of them?
Here's what we'll do.
Ready?
Mom and Jean, you

Gideon (25:08):
need to play rock, paper, scissors, winner gets a
point.
Whoa.
Best of one.

Ashton (25:15):
Best of one.

Gideon (25:16):
Okay.
I'm going to call jeans and dad.
You're going to call mom.
As in, like, when they throw it,you have to say what they say,
because The person listeningcannot see.
The only person?

Dad (25:28):
Ouch.
The listener?
Okay, yes.

Gideon (25:32):
ready.
I'm ready.
Okay.
Is it one, two, three, go?
Or is it what?
Rock, paper, scissors, shoot.
Rock, paper, scissors, shoot.
Scissors.
Dang it.

Dad (25:43):
You gotta go again.

Gideon (25:45):
Are your hands cold?

Dad (25:47):
Jeans all warmed up.
Are you ready, honey?
Okay.

Gideon (25:50):
Rock, paper, scissors, shoot.
Paper.

Ashton (25:52):
Rock.
Take that.
Let's go.

Gideon (25:55):
So

Ashton (25:57):
the chicken bakes get another point.
I forgot that was our name.
That's kind of funny.
All right.
In season six, episode three, dad says he doesn't believe that
people are truly

Gideon (26:11):
lazy.
What does he say?
He actually believes, bro.
I can't read that.
You just type it in the top.
That's what popped in my purse.
So go with that.

Ashton (26:20):
Still waiting for Team Chicken Bakes to finish their
answer.
Oh, we're

Gene (26:24):
ready.
Oh, we're trying to figure out agood way to combine our two
ideas.
Alright.
Into the same idea.
Who

Ashton (26:30):
would like to go first, Team Apparent or Team Chicken
Bakes?

Gideon (26:32):
Apparent.

Ashton (26:33):
Alright, Team Apparent.
Let's hear it.
What's your answer?

Mom (26:35):
Scared to fail.
Oooo.

Ashton (26:39):
That's a good answer.

Gene (26:40):
The answers that me and Gideon came up with was They are
unmotivated because they don'tknow their why.
Oooo.

Ashton (26:49):
I Have to give it to team chicken bakes.
Yes,

Gideon (26:54):
sir.
Let's go.
No, that's not

Ashton (26:56):
exactly we had it That's not exactly what was said, but
it was very close This isexactly what was said.

Gideon (27:03):
Let me make sure I've got it pulled up

Ashton (27:06):
Okay, this is what dad says see I used to think people
were lazy a lot of times I'd belike, oh that person's lazy then
as I really think about it.
Most people could be lazy.
Let's be honest You There'sprobably a small percentage of
people that are truly lazy, butI think most people just can't
get clear on what they want.

Gideon (27:25):
That is like word for word our answer.
Pretty much.

Mom (27:31):
If you read between the lines.
Exactly.

Dad (27:34):
No, I think they had it pretty close.
You know, though, another greatthing about lazy is that we have
a new blog post out aboutovercoming laziness.
So check that out if you'restill struggling with that.
There's some.
Gideon, take it away.

Gideon (27:47):
Tips and tricks.
Actually, when you say new, brand new, posted like an hour
ago.
So, make sure to go and checkthat out.
We always love you guys lookingat our blog posts, cause I put a
lot of work into them, and I'dlove for you to see them.
Nice.
Woo woo.
Anyone have anything else theywant to weigh in?
Do you think people are trulylazy, mom?

Mom (28:08):
I think some people are.
Yes.
And then other people just, justdon't know how to handle their
time.
Get overwhelmed with the day today stuff.
So they end up doing nothing.
Instead of breaking the cycle.

Gideon (28:24):
No.

Ashton (28:26):
That episode was titled how to get what you want.
And so like, that's why we weretalking about it.
How do you, how do you get towhere you want?
So if that's something you'relooking into right now.
That's what we're Season sixepisode three.
All right.
Here's the next game.
It's been sent to your email.

Gideon (28:40):
What you do is you play a maze wow First one to finish.
Oh, well actually the quickesttime

Ashton (28:47):
for the first maze wins

Gideon (28:49):
You have an ad going on your computer Do you want it or
do you want me to Use your arrowkeys.
You got it.

Ashton (28:59):
I'll run it and just tell me the time it took for you
to solve your first maze

Gideon (29:04):
Eight seconds eight seconds

Gene (29:06):
It like starts going but it doesn't go all the way eight
seconds it like

Ashton (29:09):
goes into like a random You gotta play the second one,
too.
It'll stop at every

Gideon (29:13):
decision point.
No, you're right.
This is hard

Ashton (29:17):
Where's your score mom 12 seconds, let's see what they
get He's stressing 11.
Oh, I think we got to do onemore as a tiebreaker on your
mark It's a

Gideon (29:28):
Ah! Oh man.
Very nice.
Very nice.
8 seconds.

Ashton (29:33):
Ah, alright.
Has to go to the chicken bakes.
Has to go to the chicken bakes.

Gideon (29:38):
Chicken and bacon.

Ashton (29:39):
But you know what's really good?
Is after this question it can betied.
Mom and dad nail the answer tothis question and you guys
don't.
Okay.

Gideon (29:46):
Sounds

Ashton (29:47):
good.
Sounds good.
This is actually the lastquestion too.
So and this one doesn't need tobe a verbatim answer Are you

Dad (29:54):
saying that we could tie then we should probably make
this one worth double?
Okay, you don't want to tiethere has to be a very clear
winner and a loser.

Ashton (30:01):
That's fair All right.
This one's worth double pointsin season 5 episode 6 Titled is
it normal to be afraid oranxious?
We come to the conclusion that, yes, it is.
And I tell a story about beingafraid of something, but not
letting that stop me from doinga task.
What was I afraid of, and whatwas the task that I needed to

(30:23):
do?
I'll give you a hint, it was achore.

Gideon (30:27):
I promise I love you, bro.
Just putting that out there.

Ashton (30:32):
It was in season 5, episode 6.
I wasn't

Gene (30:36):
there.
Tough.

Gideon (30:39):
Sounds like somebody should've listened.
I listened to some of them, butI was on a mission.
Can you repeat the question?

Ashton (30:46):
In Season 5, Episode 6, titled, Is it normal to be
afraid slash anxious?
We come to the conclusion that, yes, it is normal to be afraid
and anxious.
I tell a story about beingafraid of something, but not
letting that something stop mefrom doing a task.
What was I afraid of, and whatwas

Gideon (31:05):
the task that needed to get done?
There's two answers there.
That's where your

Ashton (31:09):
double points come from.
Three points for one, threepoints for the other.
I might be willing to givepoints to the most creative,
cause y'all both look lost.

Gideon (31:20):
I will add that it was a very

Ashton (31:21):
specific memory of mine growing up that I was telling
the story of.

Gene (31:28):
I was just looking through Buzzsprout.

Ashton (31:30):
You can't look! That's cheating!

Gene (31:32):
It didn't give me any hints.
I looked through it and waslike, I still don't know.

Ashton (31:37):
I wasn't going to answer.
Oh.
Cheating.
Alright.
Okay, wait.
Time's up in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, andAlright, we'll have Gideon go
first.
What was I scared of?

(31:58):
What was the task I needed todo?
You can just

Gideon (32:02):
Okay, so, what you were afraid of was first?

Ashton (32:06):
It doesn't matter.
Just tell me both.
Okay,

Gideon (32:08):
so, I think that this childhood memory that you're
going back to Yep.
You were afraid of a ski hill.
And, therefore, your motivationto get down was the fear of a
pull up your bottom.
And that's how you overcame.
That is a

Ashton (32:26):
story, I believe, that has been told on the podcast.
And there is some creativitythere, so I'm going to need to
sit on that for a second.
However, that is not what I'mlooking for.
Damn it.
Team Apparent, what you got?

Mom (32:40):
Well, we think.
What you're really afraid of isthe dark.

Ashton (32:43):
Oh, okay.

Mom (32:45):
And your task was to take the dog for a walk.

Ashton (32:49):
Ooh.
Not

Gideon (32:51):
that creative.
Definitely not.
But it's

Gene (32:54):
true.

Ashton (32:56):
You guys get three points.
You don't get all double.
Because it's a two partquestion.
And you got half of it correct.

Dad (33:04):
It was the dark.
It was the mountains byyourself?
Yes.

Mom (33:11):
Because of cows, right?
Listen, jerk.
The shade.
No,

Ashton (33:17):
it was

Dad (33:18):
snakes.
I thought it was dark and takingthe dog for a walk.
I thought it was dark and takingthe dog for a walk.
It could have been dogs and,

Ashton (33:28):
or cows and taking the dog for a walk.
It's not, it's, it's a validfear and anyone who doesn't
think so can just go stuffthemselves in a blender.
Wow.
Yikes.
Allow me.
Yeah, so I I remember tellingthe story that like I needed to
take the dog for a walk in themountains, but I was scared of
snakes, and dad was telling mehow we're allowed to be afraid

(33:51):
of things, but we can't let thatstop us from doing what we, what
we need to slash want to do.
And that was the whole point ofthat episode.
So does anyone have anythingthey want to add?
I will say best addition to thisconversation gets the tie
breaking point winning.

Gideon (34:08):
Ashton?
What's up?
I will restate.
I love you bro.

Ashton (34:12):
Thanks, man That's a good that's a I love that
addition to this conversationappreciate

Gene (34:20):
All right One thing I think it is important to re
emphasize is that it's not andit is okay to be afraid Because
if we're not afraid we're gonnaget ourselves hurt more with
than one.
I remember that When I wentrepelling with the youth group
that was here One thing that hementioned was if you're not

(34:40):
afraid of what could happen thenyou're going to get yourself
hurt You got to be able torespect what you're doing and
respect that you can There aremistakes in repelling.
I mean There's fatal mistakesBut in every single decision
that we make I mean if you'renot afraid of maybe hitting
another car while you're drivingYou're not going to drive as

(35:00):
safe But if you're more aware ofit and you've been like, oh, I
know i'm afraid of this So theseare the things I can do to avoid
it You And then that's all I cando and

Gideon (35:10):
then you go with that.
I feel like that makes it moreable to overcome that fear.

Ashton (35:17):
That's a really good answer.
But it wasn't flattery, so whatdo you guys got?
We had flattery and a goodcomment, so We had

Gideon (35:26):
both, we had both answers that you gonna

Ashton (35:29):
lie, I thought of that joke like two seconds into you
were talking and as you keptgoing I was like, I don't know
if I could make it because thisis a really good answer But I
had to because it was kind offunny

Mom (35:38):
That was a very good answer Are

Ashton (35:39):
you gonna make mom cry with how serious that was?
No,

Mom (35:43):
not, not yet But no, it's very important to not let fear
overcome you And have youstopped doing those things that
will help you grow?
I, I know there's plenty oftimes where we've all been
afraid to do things, but what anamazing accomplishment when you
can sit back and go, Hey, youknow what?
I was afraid to do that, but Idid it.

(36:05):
And now look where I'm at now.
It's so important.
I just this week, Jean wasfilling out job applications and
needing to talk to people and.
He did not want to go to theemployment center.
He, and there could, maybethere's a little bit of fear.
Maybe it's just the unknown.
I think a lot of times thatstops us is the unknown of

(36:28):
what's behind door number two.
When we're comfortable with doornumber one.
But when he got there, herealized that it wasn't as
painful as he was anticipatingit to be.
And he was able to walk away.
And yet, he.
He was still able to fill out hefilled out an application and
got a job.
So that was pretty neat Thisweek in it.

(36:50):
It wasn't Wasn't as scary as Ithink he was thinking it was
going to be

Gideon (36:55):
right It's

Ashton (36:57):
really good And with that we're still tied because
you both gave very good answers.
So I have a question Do we wantto end it on a tie or we can
play the newlywed game for twoseconds?
You guys want to do

Gideon (37:09):
what's the newlywed game,

Ashton (37:11):
right Does that

Mom (37:12):
work with Jean and Gideon

Ashton (37:14):
They're newlyweds now.
Okay, we're open-minded here.
That good?
So you hold up your left handfor the person on your left.
You hold up your right hand forthe person on your right or
yourself, like if, so you bothare sitting in groups, right?
So for this group, if you holdup your right hand, you're
voting for Gideon.
If you hold up your left hand, you're voting for Jean.
Same story.
Okay?

(37:34):
They're voting for us first teamto agree off rip.
wins.

Gideon (37:39):
Ready?
So close your eyes.
Ready?
Who out of the two of you inyour group has the worst

Ashton (37:46):
handwriting?
All right.
We both agreed.
We got to do it again.
Who cried during the proposal?
Jean and Gideon were the firstto agree on that one.
They win! Yeah! Let's go home!Interestingly enough, you and
dad both voted for yourselves.
I couldn't remember, Cam.
I got confused.
I did that earlier too.

(38:07):
Really?
I really thought mom would havebeen the first.
It may, it may be a littlerigged, but the chicken bakes
won in the end.
It is rigged.
tagline

Gideon (38:16):
again?

Ashton (38:17):
I erased it.
I think it was tan, but tenderor something.
Anyway, so this is the seasonfinale of of adulting decrypted
for season seven You guys wantto give the people any parting
thoughts other than gideon'susual message.

Gideon (38:33):
I think mom should share gideon's useful message If she's
been this Wow the mouth is agape

Ashton (38:44):
We want her to want to participate.
I

Gideon (38:49):
