Ever wondered what it means to find joy in every circumstance? Carmen Lezeth takes you behind the scenes in this special episode, unveiling the four distinct shows that make up the All About the Joy podcast network while sharing the deeply personal story behind its creation.

Growing up in challenging circumstances, Carmen discovered a survival mechanism that would eventually shape her entire worldview: "When you're in a hole, you need to stop digging. The way to do that sometimes is just to look up and try to find the light." This philosophy of seeking joy amid difficulty became the foundation for creating not just one podcast, but four unique listening experiences.

From the casual, porch-style neighborhood conversations of Friday Night Lives to the intimate, VIP feeling of The Private Lounge; from the concise, heartfelt solo episodes of Carmen Talks to the thought-provoking societal discussions in Culture and Consequence - each show creates a different kind of space while maintaining the same core values of authenticity, respect, and joy. Through clips of actual episodes, Carmen demonstrates how these different formats tackle everything from relationships and personal growth to politics and cultural issues.

Whether you're looking for laughs, wisdom, deep conversations, or challenging perspectives, there's a place for you in this community. As Carmen puts it, "It doesn't matter your age, it doesn't matter where you come from, what you believe in. Everyone is welcome as long as there is respect and kindness and a sense of joy." Check the schedule at the end of the episode to find your perfect entry point into this joy-centered podcast family!

Carmen Lezeth (00:00):
Hey everyone, welcome to All About the Joy.
I'm Carmen Lezeth, and todaywe're gonna do things just a
little bit different.
I'm gonna explain to you whatall four shows are that fall
under the umbrella of All Aboutthe Joy.
I'm gonna give you a little bitof a tour, basically.
But here's the thing.
I thought I would start firstwith telling you why I named it

(00:22):
All About the Joy to begin with.
For those of you who've beenwith us for a long time, you've
already heard this story.
And for those of you who arestopping by for the first time,
here's a little summary of itall.
I've had a very interestingchildhood like so many other
people.
Let's just leave it at that fornow.

But here's the thing (00:40):
while I was growing up, no matter what
the circumstance was, no matterhow hard things got, I was
always able to find a little bitof joy, no matter how hard
things were.
I understood early on that whenyou're in a hole, you need to
stop digging.
And the way to do thatsometimes is just to look up and

(01:02):
try to find the light, try tofind the silver lining, trying
to find the hope, the joy in allof it.
And that's how I got throughmost of my childhood.
And that is where all about thejoy was born.
So first up is our signatureshow called All About the Joy

(01:24):
Friday Night Lives.
So our Friday Night Livesreally are the hanging out on
the porch kind of thing.
Depending on where you grew up,you probably hung out at the
corner store or maybe at thelocal general store or where I
grew up in the city, we wouldhang out on the street, on the
stoop, right?
We would come home from school, from work, from rehearsals,

(01:47):
whatever it was you were doing.
And at the end of the day, youwould hang out and say hi to
your neighbors, there'd begossip going on.
That's what Friday Night Liveis all about.

Cynthia Ruiz Lopez (01:58):
We work at our relationship, and it's not
perfect.
There is no relationship thatis perfect.
Correct.
And you know, and if down theline we decide we want to get a
divorce, then so be it.
Then we're happy for each otherto be happy with someone else.
I gotta text wall what you'resaying right now.

Andrea (02:18):
Um you love each other, you will love each other
through whatever iterations yourrelationship is, even if that's
separate.
You don't have what I'm for ispeople being content and
fulfilled, and that can happenin a marriage, it can happen
outside a marriage, it canhappen for a period of time in a

(02:41):
marriage, and then you grow ina different direction, and
that's okay.
But I just don't there's no tome, it's just a archaic kind of
institution, and I'm married, myanniversary is tomorrow, so I
mean it's just it's a archaicinstitution that people don't

(03:02):
really need.

Tony D. (03:04):
They grow in different directions.
I'm seeing a lot more of that'swhat's concerning me with
today's society.
There's a lot of people growingin different directions.

Andrea (03:10):
Well, a lot of people choose not to grow, that's the
issue.
People choose a decision not togrow, right?
And if one person is making thedecision not to grow and the
other person is making thedecision to grow, what are you
gonna do?

Carmen Lezeth (03:25):
That is so see, you can come for the laughter,
come for the fun, stay for thefriends, and maybe get a little
bit of wisdom along the way.
I'm not sure, but that's FridayNight Live.
The private lounge.
This is the VIP Velvet RoomLounge at the club kind of
place.

(03:45):
Not everybody's invited, butbut once you're in, you get to
experience the privateconversations.
This is where we do most of ourinterviews.
This is where we do ourone-on-one conversations with
guests that we are so lucky tohave on the show.
Um, yeah, this is where we havefull-on deep conversations

(04:08):
about those subjects that maybeyou want to know more about, but
we just didn't have the quietprivate time to do.
Time is not as much of a bigfactor when it's an honest
friendship.
Does that make any sense?

Maurio Dawson (04:26):
It made perfect sense.
As long as something is sincereand you're coming from a
sincere place, no time, itdoesn't matter how much time is
parents because there are peoplein my life, even relatives who
I see like as friends, who comeback into my life and it's like,
no time is left.
You just pick right back up,the laughter continues, the

(04:48):
laughter just it's like we justrev each other.
It's just it's family, it'sfun, it's love.
Love knows love knows noboundaries, love knows it's just
it is okay.
But let's talk about whenfriendships bother you because

(05:09):
well, because one of the thingsI I have said is people, I will
read you down without eventalking about your name.

Carmen Lezeth (05:17):
Let me tell people who are listening.
Like the thing that I find, Iguess it's not shocking, but I
always like have to mind my P'sand Q's because I'm like, was it
me?
Was it me?
Because when you're upset witha friend or you're not happy,
you lay that shit out on socialmedia, but you won't name them.

Maurio Dawson (05:41):
I'll never name names.
And and and so, because thething is, you know, I'm gonna
have to find an outlet becausemy wife, bless her heart, she
would she can think of metalking.

Carmen Lezeth (05:55):
So that's the vibe that lives here.
It's a lot more truth, a lotmore honesty, and really just
giving us the time to breatheand have those deeper
conversations.
Then there's Carmen talks.
This is kind of me at the frontstairs, just kind of riffing,
talking, saying what I want tosay.

(06:16):
I really took this from thewhole TED Talk thing.
So it's always gonna be under20 minutes.
It's always just gonna be me,and it's always gonna be about
something that's important to methat I feel the need to share.
And yeah, it's not always goingto be polished, but it's always
gonna be from the heart, andit's always gonna be something

(06:36):
that I feel it necessary toshare.
Let's start with what AI standsfor.
It stands for artificialintelligence.
But here's the thing that'skind of interesting.
Because we've all seen all ofthese films like 2001 A Space
Odyssey, right, where thevillain is Hal, or we've seen

(06:58):
movies like War Games, whereJoshua, the big, huge, clunky
computer, almost starts a war onour behalf because it thinks
it's playing a game.
We've seen all of these typesof movies that make AI out to be
the bad guy, right?
So I get it.
I get why there's so much fear.

(07:19):
It also feels really big, but Iwant you to think about AI the
way that I do.
And look, it this is gonna besuper simplistic, but I think
I'm just gonna own up to it.
The way in which I learn thingsis like if I'm still a kid.
And so I want to invite you tobe a little bit open-minded
about it as I explain it the waythat I know it.

(07:41):
And hopefully that will get youinvolved in starting to use it
on a regular basis.
So those are Carmen talks.
Those are kind of fun to dotoo.
And finally, culture andconsequence.
So this is kind of the chesstable at the park under the
shaded tree where you have thebig time conversations, right?

(08:05):
And this is the show wherewe're gonna talk about politics,
we're gonna talk aboutreligion, we're gonna talk about
societal issues that areaffecting everyone.
We're going to go at it andwe're probably going to have
some disagreements.
But at the end of the day,we're always going to come from
a place of positivity and joyand hopefully some sort of

(08:27):
consensus.
But culture and consequence isgoing to be probably a little
bit more of the fiery show, butstill, at the end of the day,
it's always going to be allabout the joy.
I think the flip side of it forme was I didn't know anything
about Reagan.
I grew up the way I grew up,which was without parents

(08:47):
basically, and at the age of 12.
And so I was in survival modeon a day-to-day.
And I would also say in myneighborhood, I don't remember
politics being the thing wediscussed.
Like I don't ever rememberpolitics being something that
was important or I didn't knowanything about it.

Andrea (09:06):
I mean, look, there is a lot of opportunity here.
There's no doubt about it,right?
Like, you know, in my ownfamily, living proof of like you
can come to this country andyou can make a great life for
yourself.
Right.
And there are millions ofpeople who have done that over,
you know, the last couple ofhundred years, right?
Um, but there are issues,right?

(09:29):
There are problems, there arethings that we have not dealt
with that we deny, that we coverup.
And I completely agree with youto actually look at those
things honestly and be able tosay, yeah, hey, we did this.
Um, it's terrible that we didthis.
Here's what we learned, and nowwe're gonna move forward.

(09:50):
Um, that's something that wehave really not done in any
large-scale way that would beso, so beneficial.
I mean, that's how people grow.
Everybody knows that's howpeople grow, right?
You own up to your mistakes, you take responsibility, and you
do better.
We all know that.

(10:11):
I don't know why it's so hard.

Carmen Lezeth (10:14):
But this is what what this is what we're going to
discuss and fix about ourcountry in our podcast, right?
This is that that's what we'rehere to do.
We're going to figure outwhat's wrong with this mofo
country and fix it.
Look, we're not always going tochase headlines, but we're
always going to chase meaningand culture and consequence.

(10:36):
So there you have it.
The entire neighborhood.
You totally get it.
You understand all four showsnow.
At the end of this, you'll beable to see the schedule because
it will change every once in awhile.
But basically, Friday nightlive is a Friday, 6 p.m.
Pacific, 9 p.m.
Eastern.
We have the private lounge thatis always on Sundays at 12

(10:57):
o'clock Pacific, 3 p.m.
Eastern.
That's when those go live.
Um, Thursday nights will beculture and consequence.
Those go 6 p.m.
Pacific, 9 p.m.
Eastern.
And Carmen Talks are whenever Ifeel the need to share them.
But they'll always be in one ofthose slots either way, because
that's kind of how we do it.

(11:18):
So, but look at whether you'rehere just to hang out, or you're
here because you want to makenew friends, or you're here
because you want to contributein a way that is um, you know,
friendly and kind and alsoinspirational, aspirational, or
you just have a question or youwant to learn something, this is
the place for you.
It doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter your age, itdoesn't matter where you come

(11:41):
from, what you believe in.
Everyone is welcome as long asthere is respect and kindness
and yeah, a sense of joy.
That doesn't mean we can't havea little biting match every
once in a while, but it doesmean at the end of the day, it
really is all about the joy.
And that's how we end everysingle segment.
So until next time, thank youso much.

(12:02):
And I'm gonna say it again.
At the end of the day, itreally is all about the joy.
Thank you so much for stoppingby.
Thanks for stopping by, allabout the joy.
Be better and stay beautiful,folks.
Have a sweet day.
