This episode will expand your mind in ways you may not have thought about lately, or ever.  It is with great privilege that I introduce you to the magnificent Chevara Orrin.  Chevara shares a message of interconnectedness that we all need to hear.  We talk about her childhood struggles with poverty, domestic violence and navigating her mixed-race heritage. We discuss her current passions such as research-driven and culturally curious travel, and the work she does to bring diversity, equity and inclusion to corporations.

I encourage you to connect with Chevara, follow her journey, and hear her stories.  She does an amazing job of connecting the dots for us all, and reminding us of our humanity.

About Chevara Orrin

Chevara Orrin is an award-winning diversity, equity & inclusion strategist, social entrepreneur, published author, filmmaker, and social justice activist. Chevara is a frequent conference presenter, keynote speaker and facilitator in the corporate, higher education and nonprofit sectors working with clients such as Facebook, ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Disney, Walgreens, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Amazon, Discovery Channel Microsoft, American Bar Association, Georgetown University and Coca-Cola.

Chevara is deeply inspired by the legacy of her parents. She is the daughter of a white, Jewish mother who served as the lead coordinator for the100,000 person March on the Pentagon in opposition to the Vietnam War in 1967 and a Black father who was a “fiery top lieutenant” of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and a driving force behind many critical civil rights campaigns of the 1960s, including the 1963 Birmingham Children’s Crusade and 1965 Selma to Montgomery march which led to passage of the Voting Rights Act. Her father was portrayed by Grammy and Academy award-winning artist Common in the critically acclaimed film, Selma.

Chevara has been recognized by the White House and the Human Rights Campaign as a leader, advocate and ally for the LGBTQ community and featured in publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Tikkun Magazine and The Feminist Wire.

Chevara is currently one of three plaintiffs in litigation challenging the constitutionality of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Stop WOKE Act (Florida’s HB 7). The bill purports to “fight back against woke indoctrination” by, among other things, barring employers from engaging in speech that “advances” certain “concepts” regarding race, sex, or national origin.
