In his early years he found business success quickly as a Mechanical Engineer in some dealings with the Munn's, creating his Biotech/Genetic Research and Advanced Weapon ventures.
With all his wild success he went in to politics and was highly successful again in quelling the religious insurrectionists of 19 BBY.
