This podcast examines education policies, history, and reform from two academics; Dr. Neil Kraus, is Professor of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. His book, The Fantasy Economy: Neoliberalism, Inequality, and the Education Reform challenges the basic assumptions of the education reform movement. Dr. Jon Shelton is Associate Professor of Democracy and Justice Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. His book, “The Education Myth: How Human Capital Trumped Social Democracy” traces how the predominant American view of education evolved from an instrument of democratic instruction to the primary path to a good job.
Both professors offer a different perspective on our present educational landscape. Together they merge politics, public policies, history, economics, and labor relations to provide insight to the purpose of education.
