Sheila (00:01):
Have you ever felt like
you were made for something
bigger, but instead of steppinginto it, you hesitated,
questioning yourself, waitingfor the perfect moment?
Well, over a decade ago, Ifound myself in that exact place
.
I had built a life and businessI was proud of, but something
inside of me was shifting.
Today, I'm sharing the story ofhow I had to rebuild my
self-trust, step back into myvision and fully commit to
(00:25):
creating the life I wanted on myterms.
Hi, welcome to the Connect withSheila Botelho podcast.
I'm committed to helping youreconnect to your purpose,
elevate your well-being andbuild your version of a happy,
successful life.
And today we're talking aboutself-trust.
(00:47):
I remember sitting in front ofmy laptop, staring into it in
2014, knowing deep in my gutthat something had to change.
You see, for years I had done alot of different things,
including building a businessleading in direct sales,
(01:07):
designing and promotingtransformational events,
developing strong marketing andsales strategies for these
things, and yet I felt at thistime in my life there was a
growing discomfort, thisrestlessness.
Have you ever felt like that?
Like everything looks good onpaper, but something inside of
(01:27):
you is saying there's more.
You are meant for more.
I had spent my life trustingmyself for the most part.
When I was younger, I wassurrounded by high achieving
people lawyers, governmentleaders, entrepreneurs who were
my parents' closest friends, andthey would talk about
(01:48):
leadership.
They would talk about businessand impact, and even as a child,
I was absorbing it all, andlater I started singing and
performing, thinking that was mypath.
But even then I knew successwasn't just about talent.
It was about strategy, aboutcreating a movement around your
(02:10):
work, and that realization ledme into marketing, personal
development and, eventually, direct sales, where I learned
how to build sustainable incomeand lead teams, and for a long
time it worked beautifully.
My husband and I built abusiness that gave us freedom.
We spent years pouring into ourchildren, also into
(02:34):
philanthropy and into creativeprojects.
But then everything changed andin 2013, when my sister passed
away, I just learned that griefis such an interesting thing.
It truly, truly rearranges you.
It made me question everything.
It made me realize that life isshort and that waiting on the
(02:57):
sidelines was no longer anoption.
And so, by 2014, after havingtaken some time to regroup and
do a lot of emotional labor thatwas required in the home, as my
family had just experiencedsuch a deep loss.
I had this overwhelming feelingthat I needed to evolve, of what
(03:20):
I wanted next somethingexpansive, something that
combined all of my experiencesin business, marketing, wellness
and personal transformation.
But instead of trusting myself,I froze.
I thought maybe I need anothercertification, maybe I should
(03:41):
study what others are doing, maybe I need more time, more
validation, more proof before Itake the leap.
And that's where I got stuck.
I watched other women, somewith far less experience than me
, step up, launch their programs, scale their businesses, and I
thought why am I hesitating?
(04:02):
Why do I feel like I'm notready?
And the answer Well, becausethe first time in my life I had
handed over my power to otherpeople's opinions.
That hesitation cost me time,it eroded my self-trust and it
made the leap into my nextchapter so much harder than it
(04:26):
needed to be.
But once I saw it for what itwas, I knew I had to take my
power back.
And that's exactly what I wantto talk about today, because if
you've been hesitating, ifyou've been overthinking instead
of taking action, I want tohelp you break out of that cycle
.
By the end of this episode, you'll understand how self-trust
(04:48):
is the foundation for any majorreinvention.
You'll walk away knowing how toshift from overthinking to
taking action.
And if you've been hesitatingon a big decision in your life
or business, this will be thepush that you need to move
forward with clarity andconfidence.
(05:09):
So I'm going to go through afew steps to just guide you
through this process.
Step one is recognizing whenit's time for a reinvention.
So there were signs all aroundme that it was time to evolve.
I had built something with myhusband in direct sales, and it
(05:31):
gave me flexibility to bepresent with my kids.
It gave me some freedom in thatregard.
But something inside of me wasrestless and at first I ignored
it.
I told myself you should begrateful.
You have a business that works,a life that works.
Why would you want to changethings?
Have you ever felt guilty forwanting more?
(05:52):
I know that feeling and here'swhat I realized Growth doesn't
mean that you're ungrateful forwhat you have.
It means you're honoring thenext version of yourself that's
waiting to emerge.
And when you ignore that pullfor too long, you start feeling
disconnected, and that's whatwas happening to me.
(06:13):
The question is are you feelingthat pull right now?
And if you are, it's time tolisten to yourself.
So step two stop outsourcingyour decision-making.
One of the biggest mistakes Imade in 2014 was looking outside
(06:33):
of myself for permission.
I told myself.
Maybe I need more training, more education, more mentorship
before I can fully step intothis new vision.
So I signed up for courses andmemberships.
I got certifications.
I learned more.
And memberships I gotcertifications, I learned more.
And while learning is great, itbecame a way for me to delay
(06:58):
the actual work.
I had spent years buildingthings, leading teams, producing
events, helping others bringtheir dreams to life.
I knew how to do this, but Ihad convinced myself that
someone else knew better, andperhaps part of it was because I
had been doing it in a morein-person, large event, group
(07:35):
and even individual face-to-face, one-to-one type of way of
building a business.
And all of a sudden, we were inthis social media marketing
experience that now iscommonplace for everyone.
So it was new to me and I thinkthat slowed me down a little
bit.
So do you ever catch yourselfwaiting for permission before
you take action?
Because here's the truth thepeople who make things happen
are the ones who stop waiting.
(07:55):
Step three is commit to actionbefore you feel ready.
I wasted so much time thinkingI needed to feel ready, but
clarity and confidence come fromdoing, not from thinking.
And, of course, yes, you needto take some thought and put
(08:19):
thought into things before youtake action.
However, instead of asking am Iready, I started asking what's
the next smallest action I cantake today, what's one small
thing that you've been puttingoff because you don't feel ready
yet?
If I could go back to 2014, Iwouldn't wait.
(08:41):
I would act faster, I wouldtrust myself sooner and I would
definitely have gotteninformation and some sort of
result to move on from.
Had I done that and that's whatI want for you Now.
Imagine this.
Imagine waking up knowing thatyou're fully aligned with your
(09:05):
purpose.
You no longer question whetheryou're ready, you take action
and you trust that you'll figureit out along the way.
What would that feel like?
Another question is what happensif you don't make this shift?
What happens if you don't makethis shift?
You keep seeking more knowledge, more validation, and yet you
(09:31):
never feel ready.
One day, maybe, you look backand realize that fear, not
ability, was the only thingholding you back.
If you feel the pull toreinvent, it's because something
inside of you knows it's time.
Trust that, and if this episoderesonated with you, dm me the
(09:53):

We're digging into somestrategies and things and I'm
taking a look back, as you cantell, to some things that have
worked really well for me, andalso uncovering some things that
can really be insidious as wetry to move forward in our
(10:41):
growth journey, because we knowwhat we know, we don't know what
we don't know, and sometimes, when we look back at our history
, we uncover certain patternsthat, once we understand why we
do the things we do, we canshift them and actually start
making better choices that helpus get to where we want to go.
(11:02):
So thank you so much forlistening and I look forward to
