It brings me so much joy to start the year off with this beautiful conversation with Melissa Bloom.
Melissa is the founder of The Sisters Bloom, a sustainable stop-motion animation studio. She is also the co-founder of Lane & Lanae (a fine jewelry and home goods company). As well as a writing coach and yoga teacher at The Mindful Writer.
Stop-motion animation is the practical art form of moving elements in front of a camera frame-by-frame and stringing those together to get a moving image. Unless people are being animated, the stop-motion process requires creating puppets, sets, props and other elements to create the animated world, which often results in a process that can be quite wasteful and harmful to the environment. Which is why Melissa was inspired to start her company, The Sisters Bloom, which is all about slowing down and finding new ways to create animations that produce minimal waste and are not harmful to humans or the environment.
In addition to speaking about her work with the studio, Melissa goes really deep into her creative journey during today’s interview.
