to other hotel companies andother service industries, such

XinXin, welcome to the show.
I was most impressed to readabout your background career

(01:10):
journey.
Would you mind to spend sometime and talk about how you got
to where you are today?

Liu XinXin (01:15):
Sure.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you, David.
Good morning.
Good morning.
And I, I know you are very wellrespected in the industry
leader, so it really, the veryexciting session to talk with
you.
And so nice.
Thank, Let me just very quicklyintroduce myself.
I think that as you just sharedat the beginning, I'm really the
technical leader.

(01:35):
And then the digital lady, andnow is a business lady, But my
definition of the digital, thisis inter.
Between the technology and thebusiness.
My past 22 years workingexperience is really relative to
the digital.
I, I think, my first job is notfor the hotel industry is a

(01:57):
little difference with you.
I know you work a lot of.
For the hotel industry.
But my, for my 22 years workingexperience the first 12 years is
to work for the telecom company.
I think many guys know, butmaybe now in not the very famous
20 years ago it usually the veryfamous worldwide company.

(02:17):
A Lu.
And 10 years ago I joined Hru atthat time with a very strong
belief that it and technologycan change the service in that
industry.
This famous wording, not by me,it by my boss, and now the
chairman of Mr.
Gigi, a chairman of Edgewoodcompany because Mr.

(02:38):
Gigi is really the very, very.
Who is also my mentor, not onlyin the industry hotel industry,
but also in my working life.
And the Mr.
G is also the the founders ofSeari who founded not only the
Paju, now it's edge, but alsofoundered for the sea trip and
the home.
The three na company are reallyvery super.

(03:01):
I think that he just assure withme technology can change in
service in the industry.
And then I think that in thetelecom industry, the technology
everywhere, and then I thinkthat everybody's contribute the
value for.
For technology, but I think inthe service industry it really
need me.
And then I joined the industry10 years ago, because I think

(03:26):
technology will be much morevaluable here and technology is
really, Can bring the nextgeneration hotel and the
innovation and bring businessvalue for the industry.
So this isn't my dream and thenI come enjoy it.
But the very interesting point, this is last month.
September 17th.

(03:47):
This is my 10 years anniversaryfor the for the industry.
I, at that day I shared with amany guys that I would like just
to continue my remaining lifejust to work for the hotel
industry because the industry isreally amazing.
a lot of friends, a lot ofsuper.
And a lot of interestinginteresting how to see the story

(04:10):
and make a life happiness andmake the guests happy.
And I think that I will continuemy life till my retirement.
For the industry, for the hood, hotel industry, and I will
continue my work life just tostrive for Edward as a one of
the key players in the worldwideThat's all Thank you.

(04:32):
Thank you.

David Kong (04:33):
I'd be delighted to hear that.
And.
And I wish you a very successfuljourney.
And I hope you have many moreyears in hotel industry.
It is an exciting industry.
You touch on it several pointsthat I'd like to explore
further, but let me first askyou about the importance of
formal education.
I know that you have an MBA fromfull down university, but also

(04:53):
an I MBA from MIT Sloan.
How important is one moreeducation to one's career?

Liu XinXin (05:01):
Oh.
For my MIT program, it really, the hard.
But most valuable for mypersonal career development.
It's about 70 years ago duringthe two file and two a at that
time, I still just a ticking ofthe senior manager do in my last
company.
Okay.
But I think that, I reallyenjoyed the working the studying

(05:23):
life at that time because Ithink I can share the three key
wording for.
After my MB program at thattime, I think number one, this
is be a professional manager.
Because, in China, I think theprofessional manager is just
coming, not, how you say, themany years, maybe 20 years ago,

(05:44):
is still from the international, like Hong Kong, like Taiwan,
like a many out of China.
Just a joy.
The China means world as aprofessional manager, but I
think to be a professionalmanager is really with a very
solid foundation.
The team manage.
And the info skill and manythings I learned from the I MBA

(06:05):
program.
I can share with you at thattime I still remember we have
the course, This is a businessEnglish, but we have the session
like the sinking on your foot.
The professor just call you, Ithinking please share with you.
I give the topic and then whenyou stand up and when you come
to the frontier and then you canspeak immediately.

(06:26):
So thinking iron and speakimmediately.
I still remember very clearly,it really the powerful session
just that you make me candeliver the very impressive.
Even with a lot of people So Ithink the fundamental skills,
the professional manager, thisis the number one and number two

(06:48):
be before I joined the, I attendthe MB program.
I'm still the IT lady at thattime.
So it is really the system takeknowledge and the free work.
What's a company, what's a.
Just to learn from that.
And not only the it, but alsothe human resource and the sales

(07:09):
and the marketing and thefinance and even the staff, how
to start the business.
So many things.
So what's a company I can learnfrom?
MBA, And the number three isinternational.
How to say the perspectivebecause I think that you paid
attention to not only my MBprogram and not only from for

(07:30):
that, but also this is a mit,the joint program.
I think the why I joined theprogram, because the many things
is English and theinternational, I think the co,
the causes, but it really justgive me and offer me a lot of
things for the international, the business per.
Which will be much helpful formy self development not only in

(07:54):
my last company, Ausd to be theglobal professional manager, but
also today for Edgewood.
Because I think that, now we arejust dealing with our.
The the international, thebusiness in European market.
I think that many things I thinkthat steal from the mba, that we
have the international businessperspective, and then I think

(08:15):
that we use the knowledge.
So I think that's all I doencourage my team member,
especially the talents juststarting from the mba because
this is a free work.
This is a system, this is asystem tip that's in the
learning side learning.
And even, today it is a femalesession.
I still encourage a lot ofladies, the professional ladies,

(08:39):
just to go to the MB program.
You can learn from that manythings.
Yes, Very good Little differencewith others.
It not just a, it not true, thefull.
Social contact Many guys just goto mba.
Oh, social life and socialcontact.
My objective, Ok, that's all.

(08:59):
Thank you.
Thanks for

David Kong (09:01):
sharing your thoughts.
Those are three very importantreasons for formal education.
Now, you alluded to yourself asthe IT lady and also your
technology background isimpressive, but IT or
technology.
Used to be a field dominated bymen.
And was it difficult for you tobreak in and what are some of

(09:22):
the key success factors thathave enabled you to be so
successful?

Liu XinXin (09:27):
This is a very good question, I think the no
difficulty for me because Ithink that I deeply allow.
I think the true loud to the jobwill be the key to breakthrough
for any di.
This is my principle here.
Okay.
But really something like thedifferent with other technology

(09:49):
guys, especially for the men.
It's still the three keysuccessful factors.
I just wanted to share with you.
Maybe not very successful, but Ithink they still the different
way.
Just, I want just to set up formy personality and even just for
my team.
I think the first one, this isbusiness value proofed not the

(10:11):
tech knowledge, the level.
Okay.
During my past 22 years workingexperience, I really just do not
pursue any advanced techknowledge.
I just, I think the technologywith a maturity will be the
choice for the hotel industryfor actual company.
And then it mean that I thinkthat the bin value is the only

(10:34):
one benchmarking, just toevaluate the technology is good
or not.
So I have the very, I had to saythe popular wording in the.
In case of Nobis value by thetwo and the technology will be
nice.
So this is a principle how tomake sure the technology can be

(10:55):
the biggest driver, can be thebiggest value contribution.
This is something like the, maybe the guys who is really the
technology.
Men, We are much more proofer.
I think the technology thelevel, oh, we are advanced we
are hard to see the most of theones that, so a little
difference here.
And the second point, this is Ithink the, I have the very

(11:18):
consistent working style.
Passion and open and positiveand teamwork.
Okay.
I pray for the teamwork withpassion and positive attitude.
Because, maybe technology guy ismost more hard to see the the
individual contribution.
We are be much more proofed.

(11:39):
So it's a team value.
Or the in value individual, thecontribution proof.
I think that approved for theteam teamwork and the team
value.
So this is the reason why Ithink there are almost a long, a
lot of I think the Joy programand even with the very business
strategy objective, just to drawthe multiple.

(12:03):
To achieve the same, the oneobjective, and then we achieve,
I think the team where teamfocus will be my style.
And the number three point forme this is, I think some, it's
something like my personality.
You can see I'm the typicalChinese lady and with soft and
very kind, but very firm So yes,it's something like the

(12:29):
different with other must dietechnology guys mostly are them
much more cool and even reservedSo I think the totally the
difference point.
I think that I very cherishedthis kind of three factors.
Just to let me continue my styleand I think, I hope we can find

(12:50):
a much more successful theprogram and the contribution for
the company and the industry.
Thank you, That's

David Kong (12:58):
great.
I like how you explain Ourtechnology is actually an
enabler, allowing businesses tobe more successful and like what
you said about the teamwork it'salways a teamwork and how you'll
Yes.
Always a teamwork.
Yeah, how you use technology forthe business purposes, and also
like how you talk about yourpersonality being warm and

(13:19):
empathetic and not falling intothe traditional mode of
technologists.
Let's talk about anydisappointments and setbacks
that you have suffered.
No doubt we've before gonethrough them and they
disappointing sometimes, butyou've found a way to prevail
and become successful.
So what are some of the lessonsthat you've learned from your

(13:42):
previous disappointments andsetbacks?

Liu XinXin (13:47):
Setback.
I think, challenge is reallyeverywhere.
But what makes the challengenormally, I will have to see the
proof for the principle is justthat to make sure myself can be
the positive attitude, whichwill be the key.
But for the setbacks anddisappointed, I think that I can

(14:08):
share with you.
I got a lot of promot.
I think that, I wanna enjoy theHawaii U at the beginning, just
taking care of the role of theCIO achieving information
office.
And in 2019, I think at thattime I was promoted to the CDO
and the corporate, and last yearI just got another wrong

(14:30):
promotion to the corporatepresident.
Because I think, I'm a really, very kind, kind of lady and very
nice and many guys just give methe evaluation.
I think she is the most nice andhow to say the kind of.
So I how to leverage this guyand now you are the boss and the

(14:51):
manager to the so large team.
And then how tremendous guys.
I think that it really thechallenge by the setback here.
This is many guys before this ismy friends, my partners in the
company, and then finally theyare the team.
So how to deal with a newrelationship.

(15:11):
Even my team member before justhad to say the work with me very
well, and when I got thepromotion, I even ladies, the
team member, just the, give me alot of complain.
Oh, now you are far away withme.
And then I think the long.
Oh, now you are the boss and howto see that you changed.
So this something like the youmy disappoint disappointment at

(15:35):
that time and how to level therelationship, my team member and
my friend.
And even something like the nowit's how to see the, I still
have a lot of hard to say theteam.
How to give them the much moreprofessional and fail.
Finally, I find a way, just foryour reference, maybe not right,

(15:56):
but I think just to keep thedistance in, not a good way.
And or I think when you continuethe working environment to keep
the team much more professional.
And solution and resultoriented.
And then everything will be fromcomplex to the simple.

(16:17):
During the past few years, Ireally just met a lot of
troubles here, but now I thinkbetter and better Maybe this is
something like the difficulty, achallenge and the setback for
the latest pro professionalmanager,

David Kong (16:35):
Good.
Thank you for sharing yourthoughts on that and talking
about that.
You've been a very successfulfemale executive, but things are
not easy for a lot of women thatare struggling out there.
You alluded to the fact thatsometimes.
Want to be assertive, but it'sperceived the wrong way.
And those are some of thechallenges that women face

(16:58):
sometimes.
So what is your advice toaspiring female professionals?

Liu XinXin (17:05):
You I think that just something, how to say the
shield from with my heart, Jose.
Okay.
Number one, I think that even weare the ladies, we are the
female, but it's still theprofessional world.
I think the professional skills, the professional, something like
the knowledge and being driven, solution oriented, we are the

(17:28):
key just to keep ourself.
In the business world.
Okay, This is the number one,and I do encourage the female
just to go to the university andto studying from MBA and keep us
just to make more the study moreand learn more.
I think this is the number one.
Professional and study keep thestudying.

(17:50):
And number two, I think, I havethe very how you say the the
wording among just the summarizefrom my past the 22 working
experience.
We have the two W L.
The working balance and anotherone.
This is a working li work lifeline.
I think for me, that typically Ido not pursue the work life

(18:13):
balance because it is really noway just to balance the work and
life.
Okay.
Because this hour I can have tosee the stay with my.
By next hour, I have toimmediately just to join the
meeting.
This is the vis reality.
So I think that we have to findsome useful way just to make

(18:36):
sure we can be the, anotherversion of the W L B.
This is a work life blighted andI think that because now the
technology, we have a lot ofconference meetings and the
online.
And the most jobs can deal withby the online, the working model
for that.
So I think the work life ledwill the useful way just for the

(19:00):
ladies in reference as aprofessional here.
And the number three, we are themultiple room especially for the
family lady.
Okay.
Mother, wife.
And the daughter and theprofessional leader and the
manager and the president.
I even see a lot of roles.
For us, we have to, but how topursue the happiness.

(19:27):
I think that during the pastmany years, I'm pre practicing
the capability.
A code is just to pursue thehappiness and how to make sure,
because I think the learn tochoose it's give up all the get
or get okay and learn torehearsal with.

(19:51):
This is a many very useful wayjust to pursue the happiness
because happiness is afundamental that we can make
sure in, We can have to see thethe, we can grow in our business
world and we can be hard to seethe much more bad feeling with
our Ben.

(20:12):
And the last one, this is justfor the ladies.
I think the lady means thebeauty, and I think the ladies
also means the honors.
Approve for, We have to be thehonest lady.
And then I think you will findthe beauty and the luckiness
will be together with us Andthen I think we will be much

(20:34):
more happiness here.
So that's all for my show here.
Thank you.

David Kong (20:37):
Very good.
Very thoughtful comments.
Especially how your term, that'snot work life balance, but work.
It's similar to your commentthat I heard earlier, which is
about harmony creating harmonyin your life.
Yes.
Yes.
Very well said.
Thank you.
You alluded to the fact that youactually have a very good
mentor, and no doubt you've beena good mentor and good coach to

(21:03):
many others that have worked foryou.
What is your advice on coachingand mentoring others?

Liu XinXin (21:10):
For the coaching.
I think that definitely in caseof what we want to, how you say
to fundamental or coaching inthe company, I think that for
the ladies, a professionalmanager and for ladies a
professional.
Okay.
Just a firstly to give thecompany a suggestion to set up
the mental program.

(21:31):
During the past years we focusjust to set up a mental program
in my company, I think inEdgewood, because, the hotel
industry is a different be.
We have a lot of relationship bebe between the people and.
Because people service peopleand people support people.

(21:51):
People have people.
So I think that the mentalprogram will be the most useful
way to make our employees, toget the development and h to
see, to get the the careerjourney are much more better.
So I think that give the companysuggestion to, to set up the
mental program.
We are the number one.

(22:12):
And I think the number two, thisis for the professional lady.
We, how to learn to make ourselfto be open.
And the strong willing tocommunicate with others.
Okay.
We have still another, the veryfamous wedding from my group
friends.
This is normally the menstudying and make them growing.

(22:33):
It's just by the hydro.
Studying from the book becausewe are much more proof for the
individual just studying andfrom the book and from other
way.
But for the ladies, the normal, the useful way we are
communications with each withothers.
Okay.
For myself, I think that made alot of challenges and even the

(22:56):
d.
I really just communicate withmy team and my partner, and
especially my boss.
I think that, Mr.
T, my boss GT is really the verysmart and wise man.
We can learn from each other.
Others.
Okay.
And I think, which will be thevery useful way.
But however, we need, keepourself, be open, and and be

(23:21):
strong, willing just tocommunicate with others.
So this is a number two.
I think that the number threewill be something like the,
nobody like the challenge.
Okay.
When you just select the mentalprogram.
Just trying to, someone can beyour mentor.
We have to learn.
We need a c.

(23:41):
And we can be challengable.
And I think that it's somethinglike the mindset changing here.
Okay.
Because nobody likes thechallenge normally but I think
that the mental program can justencourage ourself just to and
how to say the strong willing tobe challengable and then we can
have the self review and even tomake our better.

(24:05):
And because you.
As the experience shared fromothers, we will be the key and
even the, how you say, thedouble speed just to make us con
growing up, make our, the careerdevelopment much more better.
that's all for my share here.
Thank you.
Oh, thank you for

David Kong (24:22):
sharing that.
I appreciate that.
Let's switch gears and talkabout the qualities that you
look for in candidates.
I'm sure you've.
Many executives in yourlifetime, and what are some of
the qualities that you look forin executive leadership
positions?

Liu XinXin (24:41):
It's a very good question here, because, during
the past many years we hide alot, but I think now is really
half half from high from.
And half from just had to seethe the internally just a
development from the very fronthere level.
Just now it's high level andeven the top level.

(25:02):
Okay.
So I think so when we select thetop leaders, the normally, the
first way, the first point, thisis logical and the strong
benefits value orient.
I think that, like me, why Ithink 10 years ago I was very
likely just to be selected by myboss, dci.
The logical way of the key.

(25:24):
And then I think we can definethe objective.
And then I achieved, during myfirst and years just to work for
Edgewood company, it really veryhard to see the impressive, the
journey.
And I achieved a lot for.
My, how to say, the careerdevelopment and you and Huu also

(25:44):
some, sorry.
Also I contribute a lot for Hu Uat that time we just follow the
trend to make our business muchmore online.
And then I think we have thevery strong, the direct channel
with 18 5%.
And the very powerful,Membership contribution was a 17
6%.

(26:05):
And then I think that evensimilarly for the leading
operation, efficiency is stillthe contribution by the digital
platform.
Now I think that our room staffratio with it's only and the old
one seven is really the veryhard to see the smart.
In China, and normally this isevery number in, in, in Hua, all

(26:28):
hotels.
Okay.
Why I shared with that numberone, this is something like the
core companies for Hru.
Okay?
For Edgewood.
But still this is when we selecta top leader, we help you to
make sure that they can just mixthings happen.
It's okay.
The mix things happen.

(26:49):
Not talk, not only talk in notonly the strong execution, it
mixing and the new thingshappen.
And just to follow the trend, and not only the industry, but
also just how to lead theindustry.
I think this is a key a call.
It is a landing capability.

(27:10):
the number two.
Okay.
And I think that number yes, aland landing capabil.
We are be decided by the strongleadership, the inference skills
and the inference skill, notonly to the team, but also just
to the company, to the partner, and even to the industry to let
them just to, to work togetherwith us to make the things

(27:33):
happen.
I think the last point, this isas I mentioned just now, I think
the true.
To the hotel industry maybe atthe beginning in the true lab,
but at least the interesting tothe hotel industry will be will
be the fundamental point.
And finally, I think that thisis a much more, from my

(27:53):
perspective, is trust thedigital Okay.

David Kong (28:00):
I really like what you said.
The world is moving so fast andour industry is changing so
fast.
Yes.
You look at the way that we dothings even before and during
and after the pandemic, it's sodifferent.
We all have that, that quicklybecause of a pandemic and we all
have to adjust to a new way ofoperation.

(28:21):
So your explanation about.
Make thing, making things happenand being being a quick learner
and reacting to it quickly.
I think those are huge qualitiesthat a lot of companies are
looking for these days, and ifwe aspire to be successful, we
have to adopt that type ofcharacter.

(28:42):
Thank you for sharing.
We unfortunately, running verylong on time, but I have two
more questions for you.
One is networking.
Networking, no doubt.
Network.
You can't be successful unlessyou get around and you know a
lot of people and you haveadvocates and champions that
help you with their career.

(29:03):
What is your advice onnetworking?
I see you as a vivia is outgoingperson.
You have a great personality, soyou are very likable, but some
people are just by nature, anintrovert and they don't feel
comfortable intermingling withpeople.
What is your advice onnetworking for.

Liu XinXin (29:24):
Actually, I think I'm not the very social lady
because, I really fully delegateto my job and my family, and I
think the almost my working andthe family just occupied of my,
how you say, the fully occupiedmy time.
And I think that it reallysomething like the, as I just

(29:45):
mention, It's I like to mixcomplex to be much more simple
and I like just to choose whichI can give up and which we can
how you see the networking partand continue.
Okay.
And for my networking, I thinkthe, I, the firstly is just the.
The only two groups the numberone.

(30:08):
This is the partnership isbasically the business
partnership.
I cherish just the how to saythat every time just to work
with to meet with our businesspartner.
And then I think we hope thatwhen I'm, every time the
meeting, we can get the theresult and the better
communication and understandingthe business and understanding

(30:31):
each other.
So I think that the very mybusiness partners always
evaluate myself is it's veryefficient for the every times
the meeting.
So I think but anyway, I think,we are still in the business.
The business partner is just notonly business for yourself, but
need business for other self forother hydro partners.

(30:54):
So how to make sure we candouble wing.
The wing approach will be thenetworking how to see the
methodology and the fundamentalhere.
Because every time when we meetwith a business, In not just to
say hello and we need somethinglike the the real partnership
for the real value, not only forEdgewood, but also for the

(31:17):
partners company.
So I think that this issomething like the we can follow
this kind of a methodology as awing being.
And then I think we may just tomake sure that every meeting,
that every networking with abusiness partner will be, must,
will be most efficient.
And secondly, I think for mybusiness partners, I'm not only

(31:39):
just ay oh we say beforeespecially for many kinds of
important partner, I will justto try to set up the individual
relationship with.
Because we will be much moretrusted each other.
Okay.
And just to see hello and evenmany guys, the festival, and
just to see hello and to meetingagain to follow the program and

(32:03):
progress but only not, but notonly follow the program.
From the business world, butalso I think to just share
something like the the personaland the family I think, which
will be much more, how you saythe easier to set up the chat,
the trust.
But it's really the very usefulfor the professional ladies this

(32:25):
kind of way, And I think thesecond goal for my networking is
typical my.
Person, personal and individual.
The older.
Okay.
Maybe many older friends.
It's just my telecom industry,my digital industry, and even my

(32:45):
classmates before MBA classmatesand the University of
classmates.
But I'm really very busy so Icould not just had to say, have
this kind of ladies talk andother friends talk.
Times is really not friendly.
Even the one, my older friend, the only, we can meet each other

(33:08):
once one year, but it's enoughbecause we cherish each other
and we respect each other.
And then I think that we, whichis hard to see the talk and the
happiness and the family andeven the dream.
And really the hard to see the, have the dream to use the
digital and technology just tochange and innovation for the

(33:30):
hotel industry.
not only in China, but also inthe world.
So I think that they really, very happy time just to get them
the recognition and theencouragement.
So that's for month networkingso far.

David Kong (33:46):
Yeah.
No I like what you said, andespecially to think Win-Win,
which is one of the StephenCubby seven Habits of Highly
Effective People.
It's something that, I alwaystry to do think when you gotta
consider both sides and also, adding value and building trust
and having small talks aboutfamily.
All those things are soimportant in that working.

(34:08):
Thank you for sharing that.
My, my last question to you is,you've made it, you've been very
successful and I know you have abright future.
Based on this conversation, Iget to know a little bit about
you.
I can see your passion, your.
Is that something that's innateyou, that passion and dedication
and drive?
Is that something that's justlike you're born with it or is

(34:31):
it something that you can findand do you ever lose it?
And if so, how do you find itagain?

Liu XinXin (34:37):
I think so, the passion and a positive and that
would give up.
Okay.
And very quickly just had to seethe breakthrough from the
disappointment.
And normally it's something no.
It's a naturally, I think thethe talents, I think that, but I
think that we can practice, butpractice from what?

(34:59):
From the true lab to the job,too loud to the life.
And I think the, that's allthat's all just how to keep you
patient and keep you positive.
And the secondly, I think theself-driven rehabil.
The self-driven you, as Imentioned just now, we can get
the recognition from the friendsand we can make the networking

(35:23):
from the partner and we can getthe, how to say the very
positive feedbacks from my cos.
But anyway, the self-driven willbe the key just to keep us just
a much more passion and muchmore positive.
I think that I have already setup my personal and individual
working style I never changedthat during the past many years,

(35:48):
but, so I really encourage myyoung ladies here and even the
famous profess.
Just to, can see the videoshere.
I think that just to set up youindividual working style and to
make you much more happy andmuch more hard to see the
comfortable and I think that youcan achieve so maybe every lady,

(36:10):
we are trying to the much moresuitable the working style than
the how you see.
The methodology for yourself.
I think the virtual be how tosee the key and just a place
just to feel for that

David Kong (36:26):
I like it.
I like what you said.
It's really about having chillup for what you do.
If you have that, you'll havepassion and inspiration and also
the pursuit of happiness.
Always think about how you'regonna be happy that day, that,
that possib outlook is reallyimportant.
Thanks for sharing so muchwisdom and insight with us.
I.
