Speaker 1 (00:01):
I'm Carla Reeves, and
this is Differently.
Whether you feel stuck insurvival, navigating a change,
or seeking more for your life, may this podcast be your weekly
nudge to take a risk to build alife that is uniquely bold,
authentic and in alignment withyour deepest values.
What if you worried less aboutthe bumps in the road and
(00:23):
instead got equipped for thejourney?
Get ready to rethink what'spossible.
Hey, differently.
Listener, I'm so excited you'rehere and back for another
episode.
It's the beginning of the year, new goals, new aspirations and
lots of good energy.
And if you're not feeling thatway, don't worry, that's okay
(00:47):
too, and that's actually whatthis episode is all about.
I felt inspired at the beginningof the year to start to do a
mindset check-in once a month,and so that's what we're doing
today.
This is a practice, and onethat has the power to change
your world in the most amazingway.
A noisy, untamed brain canliterally wreak havoc in our
(01:12):
lives.
Have you experienced that?
From our health to our mostimportant relationships, to the
way we show up at work or on thejob, and it can feel out of
control.
Way we show up at work or onthe job, and it can feel out of
control, but I have good news, because it's the one thing that
is actually within our control, and taking some small steps to
(01:33):
regain control of your mind hasfar reaching impact into all the
areas of your life.
Did you hear that, instead ofaddressing all the different
areas of your life, you couldfocus on this one thing that
would actually have potential totouch all areas of your life?
You can focus on calming yourmind and managing the traffic in
(01:56):
your mind, in your head, andthis will impact everything over
time.
So imagine I want you toimagine having the ability
because it is a skill and apractice that we can develop to
be mindful of your own thinkingand know how to soothe your own
mind, know how to calm themental noise on your own,
(02:19):
despite what's happening in yourlife, because you can always
count on this calm place withinand if you are a God-centered
person or have faith in yourlife, that just takes that
exponentially to all kinds ofother levels, right?
So this isn't something thatwe're typically taught in school
(02:41):
or even at home, and I'm on amission to teach you and others
how to manage this part of yourlife, because it's so powerful
Tapping into your God-givenability has become, or tapping
into, sorry.
This God-given ability hasbecome one of the most important
tools and things that I focuson in my life, and this tool has
(03:04):
taken me from feeling once atthe very mercy of the
circumstances in my life tofeeling like I have creative
agency every day, regardless ofwhat is actually taking place in
my life.
So I like to call it caring forour thought life, and our
thoughts run 24 seven and, whether we realize it or not,
(03:29):
this has such incredible impacton the way that we see,
interpret and show up toeverything in our world.
So what does it actually meanto take care of your thought
life?
Um, well, let's let's talkabout the new year.
What does it actually mean totake care of your thought life?
Well, let's talk about the newyear, and you start out with
(03:52):
goals and excited and inspiredabout things, and then what
happens?
The mind starts to spin.
Certain tracks, maybe, thathave played for a long time in
your head Negativity or fear ordoubt start to show up.
That's what we're talking aboutpaying attention to and making
it our responsibility to managethat.
(04:14):
So, for today, I want to startwith one of our first thought
management principles that wework with, with our private
coaching clients, and thisprinciple is don't believe
everything you think.
Let me repeat that Don'tbelieve everything you think.
(04:35):
I'm giving you permission, andif you've been listening to the
podcast for a while, this isn'tthe first time that you've heard
me say that Guess what youdon't have to believe every
thought that comes through yourhead.
Isn't that great news?
That also means that you nowget to be the watch person and
the gatekeeper for the thoughtsthat are there and the thoughts
(04:58):
that you allow to linger.
So let me ask you today, I wantyou to just take a moment,
whether you're walking orsitting or driving in your car,
I want to invite you to justtake an inventory of your mind
with blameless discernment, sono judgment, just noticing and
(05:18):
being aware of what's travelingbetween your ears today.
So the question is and this canbe taken to a um, a notebook or
a piece of paper or your onlinejournal what do you, what have
you been thinking about today?
And I want you to sit with thatfor a minute and really look,
(05:39):
kind of scan through the morningor the afternoon or whatever
time of day you're in, whatthoughts have been hanging out
in your mind today lately.
And then the next question Iwant you to sit with is how are
these thoughts impacting yourmood, your energy, your actions
(06:05):
or inactions?
And this might sound reallysimple, but that's all we're
starting with today.
But that's all we're startingwith today.
The first step, if you're new tothis, is simply to become aware
of what is happening betweenyour ears at any given moment on
(06:26):
any given day.
And guess what?
The fact that you can observeit means that you're separate
from your thoughts.
They are not you.
That is great news.
Okay, friend, so that's it fortoday as far as that goes.
And one simple action for youis just to start paying more
(06:47):
attention.
Just notice, with blamelessdiscernment, what's happening in
your mind and what is theimpact on you.
And if you want extra credit, you can take inventory each day
for the next five days and seewhat you discover.
Don't get discouraged if youfind a lot of negativity,
(07:09):
self-doubt, fear.
This is human and normal.
We all have this, and I wantyou to be encouraged that you
are taking a step inunderstanding the landscape of
your own mind and your ownthought life, and you have the
power to clean it up.
But today we're just talkingabout awareness.
(07:30):
Just noticing this is the firststep, so keep going and come
back to the podcast each weekfor ideas and inspiration and
reminders, and be on the lookoutfor a mindset check-in next
month too.
I'm committed that we get reallygood at this.
Exercises like these are whatwe ask our clients to do in the
(07:51):
online interactive journalingdashboard.
What's cool about this is thatyou're not alone in your journal
or your thoughts and itactually talks back to you and
helps you sort through and cleanup the thoughts in your mind.
If that sounds crazy, don'tworry.
We're here to create ajudgment-free space and be a
(08:12):
stand for you in elevating yourmind.
We have our own barrage ofthoughts that we deal with on
the daily and we're walking thiswork in our lives right next to
you.
So come check that out.
We have spots open in the newyear to come journal with us.
