authentic and in alignment withyour deepest values.
What if you worried less aboutthe bumps in the road and
(00:23):
instead got equipped for thejourney?
Get ready to rethink what'spossible.
Hey there, today's shortepisode is about how we can
stand tall through uncertainty.
This isn't easy, but it'spossible.
I was on the phone with my niecethe other day and she said to
(00:46):
me Auntie, nothing has gone asexpected for you for a while,
and it really struck me.
It made me go yeah, wow, it hasbeen that way.
You know how often we movestrongly through things and
don't pause to give ourselvessome grace.
It was awesome that she knewthat about me and it was a
(01:06):
moment to go.
Yeah, wow, it really has beensome uncertain terrain for a
while.
Nothing bad, but just a lot ofnot knowing and a lot of
standing in the waiting.
That's what today's episode isabout.
Quick news, flash the mind.
The devil, your negativethoughts, whatever you want to
call it is out to prey on yourmind and derail your best
(01:30):
efforts, and especially inuncertainty, and I've shared
with you that I have experiencedthis sort of mental attack more
than ever over the past year, navigating uncertainty, and it's
required really diligent effortand applying the tools that I
teach to keep my mind sound andclear, focused and aligned on
(01:53):
what I truly want in my life, and I felt really passionate
lately that we all need to getequipped.
We all need to be equipped tonavigate this terrain that does
feel uncertain, where change ishappening at a more rapid pace
than we maybe have ever beenaccustomed to.
There's a goal that I've beencarrying for a few years now on
(02:16):
my sort of goal vision board, which is lean and strong, and
what I mean by that is body, mind and spirit, and this feels
like maybe the most importanttime that we can be lean and
strong in our minds, in ourbodies, in our spirits.
Okay, so, during the climate ofuncertainty, perhaps you're
(02:38):
finding that old ways aren'tworking like they used to, or
maybe the future direction feelsfuzzy, Like you can't make a
clear plan and do the visionarywork that you've always been
accustomed to.
This is what I've beennavigating, and so what I've
been finding is that my planningand visioning doesn't need to
(02:58):
stop, but I need to work in ashorter timeframe for the moment
, because things are changingand I'm changing so fast.
Do you feel that too, when lifeis full, uncertain, maybe
things are changing faster.
We get extra busy.
I see this happen for myclients a lot, but we want to
(03:20):
set aside our healthy habitsbecause everything feels like a
more urgent priority.
I get it, but I want to remindyou that when things are full,
when things are busy, whenthings are changing, when things
are uncertain, this is the timeto actually double down and
fight for your healthy habits, because it is those that are
(03:42):
going to ground you when you'renavigating a lot of ups and
downs, friction, uncertainty inyour life.
And so how can we learn to takeamazing care of our thought,
life, our well-being, so that wecan show up strong?
So I was at Pilates classyesterday, taking a class, and I
(04:04):
was sitting next to a lady whowas sitting next to one of our
other instructors that wasactually taking class that day
and we were working on thespringboards and using the
spring bands to do likeresistance, strengthening of our
arms and biceps, and the ladynext to me was having trouble
(04:25):
keeping her posture with theweight being heavy, which we all
can relate to and theinstructor next to her was
talking about how important youknow maintaining your posture is
when you're struggling to liftthe weight, and she said,
struggle tall.
And I leaned over and I saidthat's such a great phrase
(04:45):
reminder for life in general, and so she really inspired this
episode today.
It's like how can we struggletall?
What does that look like in oureveryday lives?
And it really is aboutmaintaining these things that we
always can control when itfeels like we're navigating many
(05:08):
circumstances and situationswhere we have lack of control or
feel powerless.
I want to actually share withyou my writing practice that can
help you stay lean and strongmentally and emotionally during
this time.
This has happened on severaloccasions where a client
actually expresses in theirjournal that journaling takes
(05:29):
too long.
Do you have any suggestions formaking it quicker?
And while sometimes the pauseand the slowing down to actually
write is exactly what you need,it's the medicine.
I want to share a writingpractice today that I use often.
That can be a short writingexercise, or it can be a short
writing exercise, or it can be alonger writing exercise.
(05:51):
You can adapt it to your day, because I know some days that is
important and this is apractice I take people through
often to increase your awarenessof your own thoughts and the
power they have over the qualityand experience of your day
Because, like we were talkingabout, when things are uncertain
and you're grasping for control, you always have control here
(06:15):
and it has a huge impact on yourday.
So these are some questionsthat you can take into your
writing and, again, this isgoing to raise awareness to the
thinking in your head that isimpacting you in ways that you
can't even imagine.
Thinking in your head that isimpacting you in ways that you
can't even imagine.
So the first question or promptis just what are you thinking
(06:36):
about today?
Take two minutes to just kindof dump your brain.
The next question is how isthis impacting your mood?
How are your current thoughtsimpacting your mood, your
actions, your interactions, yourchoices?
Third prompt what's the storyyou're telling yourself about
(06:56):
what's happening in your life?
Is it true?
Is it aligned with what youwant?
Is it old and outdated and timeto take to goodwill?
The next question how do youwant the rest of your day to go.
You might just pick one wordhere.
And then the last question iswhat's one reframe in your
(07:17):
thinking, what's one small shiftor trade up that you can make
in your thoughts to change thecourse of your day?
And that might be a simplething, as, like reminding
yourself, I often remind myselfthere's, there's nothing wrong.
Everything in my head can feelwrong, but if I stop and get out
of my head and look around, there's nothing wrong.
(07:41):
Nothing has changed except mythinking.
And that simple shift canchange the course of the rest of
my day.
Take those questions into yournotebook, into a Google Doc.
You can repeat those questionsdaily for like five or seven
days and you're going to startto have a really clear picture
(08:01):
about what's hanging out in yourthoughts, what you want to
continue to allow to hang out inyour thoughts and how you might
shift that to create more ofwhat you want.
So I want to remind you and methat struggling tall is about
grace and practice, notperfection.
You can try this exercise.
(08:23):
You can set a timer for justfive minutes and go.
Struggle is normal.
Friends, how we respond andshow up to the struggle can make
or break our day, week, monthand ultimately our life.
So, like my Pilates instructorsaid struggle, tall friend.
(08:45):
