Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the third
and final episode of the series
of spring cleaning your realestate business.
Today, we are talking aboutmindset and boundary One of my
favorite things ever.
Didn't I say that about tech?
Okay, you guys are starting toget the vibe.
I'm just like a nerd for realestate businesses.
(00:20):
So today we are going to talkabout how to protect your peace
and protect your energy, whichis so important.
You can have the best systems, you can have the biggest bank
account, but if your mindset isa mess and you're saying yes to
everything, you are stillexhausted and you're stuck.
So let's reset how you thinkand work so you can build a
(00:41):
business that actually feelsgood and not one that drains the
life out of you.
Here is the deal.
No amount of money or successwill feel good if you are
overworked and stretched toothin.
When your mindset is cluttered,it leads to more stress,
self-doubt and a business thatis running you instead of the
other way around, and we want tobe the CEOs of our business
(01:03):
here at Happy Agent Co.
So you do not always have to beon to be successful.
That is absolutely impossibleand leads to horrible things.
You just need to be intentionalwith your time, your energy and
your focus.
I remember early on in my realestate career, I used to think
that being busy meant that I wassuccessful.
(01:25):
And then I had my first babyand I literally couldn't do it
anymore.
I was a new mom, I was tryingto pump and there was no milk
coming out because I was sostressed out.
I was running a brokerage.
I personally was selling 15million, so not only was I
wearing my agent hat, I was alsowearing my brokerage owner hat
(01:46):
and my new mom hat and my wifehat, and I was so overwhelmed
and what I realized was I had toget intentional with my time
and set better boundaries.
And when I started saying no tothings and started really
taking care of myself, mybusiness actually grew and I
felt so much better doing it.
(02:07):
And that's what I want for you.
I want you to have a businessthat feels good.
So I'm going to break this downinto five ways that you can
reset your mindset, protect yourenergy and create a business
that actually works for you.
The first step is going tosound a little woo, but it is
real and we need to declutteryour limiting beliefs.
(02:28):
I need you to realize that youhave negative thought patterns
that are holding you back.
So what stories are we tellingourselves and what isn't serving
us anymore?
Examples I have to hustle 24seven.
To be successful, I have to beon seven days a week.
I can't say no to clients orI'm going to lose business.
(02:49):
Or I can't say no to clientsbecause I need the money.
I'm not good enough, I'm notexperienced enough, I'm not
worthy of big success.
I don't deal with luxuryproperties.
All of these are limitingbeliefs that we need to get rid
of because they are not true.
We need to identify where thesebeliefs came from and then
(03:09):
replace them with better, moreempowering ones.
I remember I was coaching anagent who kept telling herself
that she wasn't as good as thetop producers in her area and so
she was playing small.
She was like I don't deserve asmuch commission.
I really can't list propertiesthat are over a million dollars.
(03:31):
And I just remember she wastaking on every client that came
her way because she didn't havestandards and she felt like she
couldn't say no to them.
So even the ones that treatedher badly, she felt like she
couldn't say no to them.
So even the ones that treatedher badly, she felt like she
couldn't say no because sheneeded the money.
But once I showed her that shewas a successful real estate
(03:52):
agent who deserved to be paid,we had to reprogram the limiting
beliefs of I'm not good enough.
It's like she is the expert shedeserves to be paid.
She was able to rewrite thatstory and started showing up
with confidence, and she startedlanding better opportunities,
and I really believe that whenyou start believing in yourself
(04:12):
and you start decluttering theselimiting beliefs, you can start
attracting better opportunities.
So what's one limiting beliefthat you've been holding on to?
I want you to really thinkabout it, and then I want you to
rewrite it into an empoweringbelief that actually serves you.
Maybe it's?
I only have 20 hours a week towork on my real estate business,
(04:36):
so that means I can't be a topproducer.
No, no, no, no, no.
That is not true.
I have 20 hours a week that Ican turn into multiple six
figures and, honestly, I believethat that's true for you.
So let's flip the script andreally start telling ourselves
better stories.
(04:56):
Step number two is all aboutboundaries that protect your
time and your energy, becausethat is literally what we are
bringing to the table as realestate agents is our time and
our energy and our expertise.
So I want you to be able to sayno to the things that do not
align with your goals.
So not every client is yourclient.
(05:17):
Learn how to say no to thepeople that drain you.
I also want you to trust yourintuition.
It is right all the time.
I know that every time myintuitionist said do not take
this deal, do not list thisproperty, do not do this.
And I don't listen to it, I endup wasting so much time and
(05:37):
energy either because thatclient is horrific to work with.
Deals fall apart Just anytime Idon't listen to my intuition,
bad things happen.
So I really encourage you tolisten to your intuition.
Also, set clear working hours.
We teach clients how to treatus.
Do not answer texts at 10 pmunless you want to be answering
(05:59):
texts at 10 pm all the time.
So I do not respond to textsafter 7 pm unless I am in active
negotiations, and that is anexpectation I set with clients
when I start working with them.
The other thing is protectingyour personal time.
If you don't, no one else willand you can be honest with your
(06:20):
clients about what's going on inyour life, or you can just tell
them I am not available andthat is it.
You do not have to explainyourself.
You don't have to explain thatit's your son's soccer game.
You don't have to explain thatyou're going to the spa.
You are unavailable and it isokay to be unavailable.
Ah, you are unavailable and itis okay to be unavailable.
(06:40):
I know that there are agentsout there who are taking every
single call, even during familydinners, on vacations, on the
weekends, and you are convincedthat you always have to be
available or you're going tolose business.
But I am telling you, if youcan set clear boundaries, your
clients will respect you more, not less.
They will start treating youwith respect, absolutely, and
(07:01):
you can enjoy your life.
But you have to do this foryourself.
You can't have anybody do itfor you, because we teach our
clients how to treat us.
So what is one place where youcould have a more firm boundary
and I want you to startenforcing it today?
Maybe it's no client callsafter 7 pm, maybe it's actually
(07:25):
taking a real day off each week, and I want you to commit to it,
because this is important foryour longevity in this business.
Step three is letting go oftoxic productivity.
There is so much toxicity inreal estate culture.
It's just, it's unreal.
And I want you to know thatworking more is not the key to
(07:45):
success.
It is not.
Success is not about doing more.
It is about workingintentionally and doing what
actually moves the needle inyour real estate business.
So I want you to stopglorifying overwork.
I want you to start focusing onyour high value activities, and
busy does not equal productive.
I will tell you, myproductivity went up tenfold
(08:08):
when I became a parent, becauseI suddenly had a restriction on
my time.
I was not able to have as muchfreedom in my time as I was as a
single human.
When I was a single human, Iwas literally working until 3 in
the morning because I wanted to.
But you don't have that abilitywhen you become a parent.
(08:28):
So I see agents all the timefilling their days with busy
work.
I'm not kidding.
Go on your phone and look athow much time you spent on
Facebook, instagram, x, any ofthe social media.
I am guaranteeing there aresome of you out there that spend
two to three hours a dayscrolling social media.
That is not intentional.
(08:50):
That is garbage.
So we need to Stop filling ourdays with busy work, social
media, tweaking your website forthe hundredth time, obsessing
over tiny details that don'tmatter.
But I know that the agents thatactually grow their business.
They focus on the big moves, building your relationships,
(09:10):
providing real value to yourclients and staying consistent.
They focus on what actuallymatters, not toxic productivity.
So I want you to look at yourto-do list, cross off anything
that's just busy work and let'sfocus on one to two high impact
tasks instead, because that isgoing to move the needle on your
business.
(09:31):
Step four let's align yourbusiness with your life goals.
This is really importantbecause this helps you build a
business that fits your versionof success, not the real estate
industry's version of success, which is more, more, more being
on a list, being a top producerquote unquote being number one,
which honestly, isn't everybodynumber one.
(09:53):
So are you building a businessthat supports the life that you
want or are you just chasingsomeone else's definition of
success?
And I know I was chasingsomeone else's definition of
success for a very long time andI stopped because I wanted a
business that supported my lifefeeling good and, honestly, I'm
so lucky because I have a lifeand a business that feel really
(10:16):
good.
So what do you want your days tolook like?
And I think that's reallyimportant.
Like so what do you want yourdays to look like?
And I think that's reallyimportant.
Like what do you want your lifeto look like?
What do you want your businessto look like on the day-to-day?
What do you want your week tolook like?
What do you want your month tolook like?
What do you want your year tolook like?
And you have to then back thatbusiness into your life, because
(10:36):
that is how you make sure yourbusiness model is supporting
your personal goals, not justyour financial ones.
So maybe running a team orgrowing a team is not going to
support your life or your lifegoals.
That is totally okay.
I will be honest, running ateam sometimes does not provide
a lot of freedom.
So you need to make sure thatyou are building a business that
(10:58):
supports the life that you want.
So I want you to write downwhat your ideal week looks like,
and then I'm going to adjustthe business to fit that vision.
So plug in all of your personalnon-negotiables, plug in your
joyful activities, plug infamily time, plug in your
(11:19):
self-care, plug in all of thatstuff first and then look at how
many hours are left for yourbusiness and then we figure out
how are we going to optimizethose hours so you're getting
paid when you're working.
So maybe it's 10 hours, mightbe, maybe it's 30.
30.
(11:40):
, but you want to make sure ifyou're working those 10 hours it
is with intention and it isgoing to deliver high value to
your business.
You want to be paid for those10 hours that you're working.
And lastly, step five isredefining success, and this is
something I am going to preachuntil my grave.
Shift your focus from justmoney to a more meaningful
(12:01):
definition of success.
Success is not just about howyou make, it is not about your
net worth, it is not aboutprofit.
It is about how you feel inyour day to day, in your life,
in your business, and you candefine success on your own terms
, because that is what this isall about.
I know people who make $80,000a year and they are so
(12:23):
incredibly happy.
They love their life, they lovetheir business and that is
incredible.
I know people who are making $2million a year who love their
life and love their business.
I know people who are making $2million a year and hate their
life and hate their business.
I know people who are making $2million a year and hate their
life and hate their business.
So you find what meaningfulsuccess is for you.
(12:45):
I personally, I like to makespace for joy, having fun,
resting, doing fulfillingactivities, because, honestly,
if you aren't a happy agent, what is the point?
We need to enjoy our time hereon planet Earth while we have it
, and if you're not enjoying it,something needs to be reworked.
(13:07):
So I want you to define whatsuccess means to you beyond just
money.
What does a fulfilling life andbusiness look like for you?
And that is your.
Why we all need to know whywe're doing this, and it is so
crucial to know what success isfor you.
So those are my steps for yourmindset and boundary shift, and
(13:30):
here is your quick recapDeclutter those limiting beliefs
.
Stop holding on to the storiesthat don't serve you.
Set your boundaries thatprotect your time and your
energy.
Say no to what drains you andtrust your intuition.
Let go of toxic productivity.
I want you to stop glorifyingbusy and focus on what actually
(13:51):
matters in your life and yourbusiness.
Also, align your business withyour life goals.
Build a business that fits yourdream life, not somebody else's,
because that does not matter, that's not fulfilling, it's not
motivating, and I want you toredefine success.
It isn't making a list, it'snot being number one at your
brokerage.
Make success feel good anddefine what that looks like for
(14:14):
you.
If you do one thing today, Iwant you to decide on one
boundary that you are going toenforce, whether it's no late
night texts or finally taking aweekend off, and I want you to
commit to it, because yourbusiness needs to serve your
life, not the other way around.
So that is the conclusion ofour three part spring clean your
(14:35):
real estate business episodeand I really hope that you have
an incredible spring market andyou sell tons of real estate and
you just love the hell out ofyour life, because it is
important and it is why we areall doing what we're doing until
next time.
Thanks for listening.
