Healing doesn’t arrive on command; it arrives when faith and effort finally meet. Joe sits down with longtime friend and frequent guest Richard McCuen for a candid, grounded conversation about moving from crisis to momentum—through chemo, scans, traumatic injury, VA delays, and the daily choices that turn belief into results. We talk about the difference between hoping for a miracle and building a life it can land in: sleep, nutrition, movement, community, and the hard work of acting on the guidance you ask for.

Richard walks us through his on-duty trauma, years of shoulder and neck complications, and the frustrating maze of delayed care. Instead of waiting, he built a practical plan: isolation movements, band work within safe angles, breath and posture training, and relentless research into his condition. That continues today alongside medical options, because both-and beats either-or. When a recent gallstone scare and cancer concern surfaced, scans and bloodwork shaped the next steps while his household doubled down on whole-food nutrition, chlorophyll-rich greens, fiber-first fruit, and cellular hydration.

We also dig into mindset and meaning. Self-talk isn’t fluff; it’s instruction to your nervous system. Surrender isn’t giving up; it’s acknowledging the next right step and taking it. Therapeutic horticulture, sunlight, and soil provide calm you can feel. And when life removes relationships or routines, it’s often making space for the ones that help you heal. Our promise isn’t a one-size cure. It’s a method: identify your system under stress, assemble your team, test low-risk interventions, measure honestly, and iterate.

If you’re ready to take ownership of your health, this conversation offers a clear path forward and the encouragement to start. Subscribe for more honest, practical guides to healing, share this with someone who needs momentum, and leave a review to help others find the show.

SPEAKER_00 (00:02):
Well, hello and welcome back to the Healthy
Living Podcast.
I'm your host, Joe Grumbine, andI'm kind of happy.
Uh today we have back in thestudio a very special guest,
Richard McEwen.
He's been featured on thepodcast many, many times over
the last couple of years.
And uh we haven't had you hereas a guest for probably close to

(00:26):
a year.
Richard, welcome back.
It's so great to have you backwith us.

SPEAKER_02 (00:31):
Thank you.
It's good to be back.
I I'm starting to uh feel a lotbetter and and going in the
right direction.
So finally that's uh a benefitfor like my help and and the
things that I've been battlingjust as well as you, you know.

SPEAKER_00 (00:48):
Yeah, you you've been, I mean, geez, you you and
uh me both between the two ofus, we've gone through a a crazy
roller coaster ride.
But um, you know, when you leftoff the last time we really
talked here on the podcast, um,you were still going through um
the death of your mom and and uhall the the problems and and

(01:13):
conflicts with the family andmoving.
And I I don't think I'm not sureif we talked since you've
connected with your partner, um,and um the relationship that you
now have.
Um it's a whole whole differentworld.
Like you're a whole differentRichard.

(01:34):
And it's funny because we'resitting here looking at each
other.
Now the listeners won't be ableto see this because it's a
podcast, it's an audio file.
But when we first startedtalking together, I had a head
full of hair and you were thebald guy.
And uh now I'm the bald guy, andyou got a head full of hair and
a beard.

SPEAKER_02 (01:53):
Yeah, it's getting really cold here, so I try to
transition as you know and fitin as much as I can.

SPEAKER_00 (02:01):
Keep myself I hear you.
If I had hair, I'd be growingit, but uh it'll be coming back
soon enough.

SPEAKER_02 (02:07):
It is, you look really well.

SPEAKER_00 (02:08):
Yeah, I feel I feel remarkable.
Um, you know, I went through onemore round of chemo than I
thought I was going to, andalong with all the other
therapies and the diet and allthis difficult stuff, but the
last one whooped my butt.
But I also know that it whoopedthe cancer's butt and finished

(02:31):
it off.
I'm pretty sure like we're we'regetting close to uh uh
scheduling a scan and um tovalidate you know where we're
at, but I don't feel like thisthing is um breathing down my
neck anymore like it was, and Ithink um if if there's anything
left, it's just a a shadow ofwhatever it was, and we'll we'll

(02:54):
we'll be able to finish it off.
But I think I feel more thanlikely like we're done, like we
got this thing, and um it's justlittle remnants left back.

SPEAKER_02 (03:05):
You look like two different people before before
and now it's it's like such adramatic change.
Oh, yeah, really.
If you like it's amazing, likewhen you just have faith and you
and you believe and you and youput that with God.

SPEAKER_00 (03:22):
Oh, yeah, he he does amazing things, and and you're
living proof because exactly manit's not just the belief, like I
have people all the time thatare like, yeah, all you gotta do
is believe, and the miraclehappened, and Jesus will fix
you, and and all of this.
And I'm like, Yeah, you'reright, but it I don't believe
that generally it works thatway, where all you do is

(03:45):
believe, like you believe, andthen you go do the work, and and
then you go find the answers.
Because we live in a physicalbody, and and there are miracles
that happen, and and yes, Jesushas healed me, but the the the
work that causes that to be ableto manifest, like if I was

(04:09):
sitting there eating a crappydiet and living a crappy life
and doing all the things that Iwas doing prior to solving this,
I don't know that the miraclewould work the same way.
And I think that I think there'sa lot of it that has to do with

(04:30):
our desire to solve our problem, our willingness to do the hard
work and and the faith on top ofit that says, you know, I know
that uh God said he would helpus.
All we have to do is ask, right?
But but that doesn't mean youjust ask and you're better.
It means you ask and then youget given the answers and then

(04:53):
you do the work.

SPEAKER_02 (04:55):
I've I've learned, you know, that message can can
uh dictate different things.
He's definitely not gonna giveyou something.

SPEAKER_00 (05:12):
We've got a little bit of a weird connection
button.
Turn your video off, and we'llhave a better connection.

SPEAKER_02 (05:19):
Turn the video off?

SPEAKER_00 (05:20):
Yeah, turn your video off, and that'll make the
audio connection better becauseit's your feed's a little
choppy.
And I I'd rather now that I'veseen you, yeah.
Well just keep your video offand then your your audio will be
smooth.

SPEAKER_02 (05:36):
Is that is that better?

SPEAKER_00 (05:38):
No, your video's still on.
Turn the video off.
Yeah, I turned all it came backon.
Yeah, it's still on.
Just turn there you go.
Okay.
Yeah, so now you're clearer.
Yeah, much better.
Yep.

SPEAKER_02 (05:50):
Okay.
Yeah, I I I've learned speakingwith God is especially like when
you want to really change.
He he's definitely gonna makeyou change and be prepared for
what you ask for because he'sonce you ask, there's no there's
no change in, you know, whatwhat frequency message that you

(06:14):
have put out there for him to,you know, connect to you.
He certainly walked me throughsome pain I didn't think that
I'd I'd survive from.
And it it it's amazing to justthat belief and that trust,
knowing that you're going to befine in the end.

(06:35):
I think it's it's it was areally strong message for me
because that's what I needed.
Is I needed to hear that voicein the deep of that pain to walk
me through it.
And I'm I'm glad because youdon't you you have to walk
through the fire, you know, tobe clean.

SPEAKER_00 (06:56):
So it's so true.
I I um and it's wild, you know, because you get it.
Uh people all the time, youknow, they they decide they want
to make their life better, andthey're like, Oh yeah, I'm gonna
pray for patience, or I'm gonnapray for, you know, wisdom or
all these things.
And I, you know, I spent my lifepraying for wisdom and I just
got beat to shit.

(07:17):
You know, I kept get get I keptgiv given one harder challenge
after another, and finally I'mlike, okay, okay, you know,
that's that's good.
I'll I'll I'll take what I gotand we'll try to work with it.
But when you pray for a healing, and um then all of a sudden you
get these different challenges, you got to realize that that's

(07:42):
that's where that healing isgonna come from.
And, you know, like you said, when you want to make a dramatic
change, you have to be willingto accept how it's gonna come to
you.
And it it it overcomingsomething, regardless of what it

(08:02):
is, generally requires a majorlife shift.
And that's generally not apleasant experience.
You know, once in a while youget a beautiful life shift, like
you meet a partner and you starta relationship and you get a lot
of joy out of it.
But generally, like you gottapick up and move, or you gotta,

(08:23):
you know, get rid of a bunch ofsomething that you're used to,
or or relationships fall apartand make room for a new one, or
whatever.
There's always these sacrificesthat it seems like you have to
make.

SPEAKER_02 (08:37):
Yes.
And and having that that can bedifficult too, depending on
somebody's situation.
Uh, they may not have thesupport, you know, around them
to uh help them guide themthrough something that you know
they're experiencing themselvesthat's you know uh something
dramatic.

(08:58):
Uh it it it does pay to be ableto within your own self have
that calm voice to be able totalk to yourself, to walk
yourself through just to let youknow, you know, like I'm okay,
you know, I'm gonna be okay, youknow, I I'll get through this,
you know, because it's the samething as you know, being mad.

(09:22):
It's you're communicating withevery cell in your body, and
that's to me really a command.
So if we teach ourselves how toself-talk and and treat
ourselves the way we would treatothers, you know, what we'll
we'll we'll mirror that image uhas as a frequency of healing

(09:42):
because that's where it lies.
Is is you have to know thatwe're not in control.
And we do need assistance andguidance.

SPEAKER_00 (09:53):
So no, go ahead, go ahead.

SPEAKER_02 (09:58):
When when someone is in in that position to where
they can just like I've talkedto people that want to heal, but
it's like they want to rob yourenergy.

SPEAKER_00 (10:09):
They want to heal, but they know better than you.

SPEAKER_02 (10:13):
Right.
And it's like they draw yourenergy just like spontaneous and
and in that or and it it reallytakes somebody to tell
themselves, I need help, youknow, I can't do this myself.
And what with with that put outthere, God will send you what
you need, you know, like how weyears ago got in touch, you

(10:36):
know, and connected.
It was through someone, youknow, another source that was
connected to you, right?
That provided the message, andyou know, I received it.
You know, that was that's thefrequency.
And if you can align yourselfwith the people that you know
you can get the help from andthe guidance, because we're all

(10:57):
just giving each other.

SPEAKER_00 (11:00):
It was even more miraculous than that because our
common connection became anobstacle for both of us, like
they were they were they werepeople that were trying to keep
you from connecting with me andand interfering with the things
I was doing, and through it all,we both saw the value of each

(11:23):
other and realized that we werebetter connecting directly, and
we both let those people go, andwe've been working ever since.

SPEAKER_02 (11:36):
Yes, and and that's that's the thing.
Some some people are gonna comeinto your life, some people are
gonna come out, right?
But it accepting the knowledgefrom it from both sources is the
real connection because Ibelieve everyone that you come
in connect contact with hassomething to do to whether they

(11:57):
could either you can assist oryou can help somebody else.

SPEAKER_00 (12:02):
Oh hundred percent.
There's a couple elements to it,like you said, in in order for
you to be able to help somebody,or for somebody to be able to
help you, you have to surrenderand realize that you don't have
all the answers, and realizethat you're gonna have to

(12:22):
believe something somebody says, whether it's an inner voice,
whether it's a mysticalexperience, whether it's a
person that you meet at a shopthat or a teacher or an expert
or a doctor or just somebody youbump into on the street.
But you have to realize oraccept that information is

(12:46):
coming to you from the ultimatesource, from your creator, and
it comes in any which way, likeit might come in a little voice
on the wind, or it might comeyou know, through some show you
listen to, or it might comethrough a friend or a stranger.
You just don't ever know whereit's gonna come from.

SPEAKER_02 (13:05):
Exactly.
And and to me, like what you doand what you have created, it
pretty much subliminally likeplants that seed, you know, as
the message.
Because it has guided me, youknow, what this has been since
2015.
Right, it's been a while, 2017.

(13:27):
Something like that.
And now I'm in South Carolinaand it it you know that's
continuing, you know, themessage and continuing to help
provide a better source ofhealing for you know somebody
else as well as you know yourourselves and passing that
information along.
I I I don't want to be silentinto what has healed me, you

(13:52):
know, because that that that'sthe wrong message, you know.
Like I I believe, like wheneveryou I tell my son, because he's
always walking around like goddang it, and he's you know,
having conversations with himtells, and I say I tell him all
the time, I say, you know, thedevil can hear what you say, but
God hears what you think.
Yeah, exactly.

(14:12):
So when when we internally keepthe message in tune to the right
frequency in people, we willalways be guided to the right
direction.
It doesn't matter who we come incontact with.
And that's that's the puresource of healing is providing
that guidance and and assistancefrom others to where you can

(14:38):
intertwine and pull from oneanother to where oh as
motivation, like you motivate meevery single day.
I see you definitely have dealtwith something more than I've
I've dealt with in my life, youknow.
And I'm just being honest, youknow, and seeing I was really
worried, you know, there for awhile, you know, and to see you

(15:00):
now is just it like miraculous, right?
I mean, it's uh like you said,I'm a motivates me to get
through what I I'm goingthrough, right?
And and I I'll tell you thetruth, Joe.
I'm still waiting for doctor'sapproval, but they've already
told me once.
And you know, I'm I beat cancer.
Yeah, I'm I feel I'm cancerfree.

(15:22):
Okay, and with you know, findingout that that you know, a
gallstone later on because ofthe pain, having to go to the
emergency room, and I don't evenhave that now.
Nice.
So, and and to be honest, likeshe's really seen God at work
just through me because Ihaven't been able to, you know,

(15:45):
dealing with you know cancer.

SPEAKER_00 (15:47):
I I don't really like to say that word, but it's
you know what though it it's afungus.
All you're doing is you'reidentifying a thing, and and and
you're not giving it power bysaying that word, it's it's it's
just putting it into terms thatpeople can understand.
And if you call it a fungus or aparasite or whatever, that's
fine too.

(16:07):
It doesn't matter, likeeverybody's got their way of
understanding it.
The truth is it is what it is,and and it doesn't really matter
the name we give it, as long asyou know it's not just saying
it, it's what are we thinkingwhile we're saying it?
And you know, when I see it, Irecognize that it's me.

(16:30):
It's it's a it's a piece of methat got confused.
And for whatever reason, whetherit's because of a fungus or a
parasite or or or or a virus ora miswiring or some genetic mess
up or whatever, it doesn't evenreally matter.
What matters is that how are wegonna solve it?

(16:51):
How are we gonna get this thingto decide that it doesn't need
to be in my body anymore?
It doesn't need to be part of meanymore, and it needs to go.
And, you know, I think thatsometimes we get caught up on
things.
Like I know a lot of people thatum you know, they're holistic
people and they have thoughtsabout things, and they, you

(17:14):
know, are sure, you know, it'sthis and not that, you gotta do
this and not that.
And what I've learned in myjourney is that everybody's
answers may be a littledifferent.
And, you know, the thedifferences between a cancer,
and and all a cancer is is amutated cell.

(17:35):
It just means it's a cell that'snot working the way your body
was originally designed to work.
So if you got a spot on yourliver or a spot on your bones,
or in my case, a spot on myneck, back of my tongue, you
you're your your tongue isalways making new cells, right?

(17:57):
Old cells are dying, new cellsare coming in.
And in the case of cancer, allof a sudden these cells start
behaving differently.
They they they are acting in adifferent way.
They they have some kind of agenetic code that got changed
that says instead of doing this, now you're gonna do that.

(18:20):
And it and it could be caused bya number of reasons.
You know, there's I don't thinkthere's one cause for every
cancer.
I think some people do getcancer from smoking cigarettes.
And I think some people getcancer from being exposed to
toxic chemicals.
And I think some people getcancer, like I mine was caused

(18:40):
by a virus.
Some people get it from afungus, some people get it from
parasites and and combinationsof all these things.
I think there's all thesereasons why we can get these
things, but frankly, it reallycomes down to like what are you
thinking about when you'rethinking about this?
Like you said, your son goesaround and and thinks, you know,

(19:02):
negative things.
And I think when you think abouta negative thing, you're
empowered by negativity, youknow, right?
And and you can take and thinkthat same thing and think about
the answer, the solution, right?
You go, you know, my leg hurts,my knee hurts, and you can go,

(19:23):
God dang it, my knee hurts, myknee hurts, and just think that.
And what's that gonna do?
It it puts out that frequencythat says, Yeah, you're hurting,
so keep on hurting.
Or you can think about, yeah, myknee hurts, so I'm gonna put
some ice on it, or I'm gonna puta little topical, or I'm gonna

(19:43):
take a supplement, or I'm gonnamake this feel better.
And then you start thinkingabout how you feel when you're
better.
And then all of a sudden, Iguarantee you, you're the same
problem caused by the samething, whatever it was, doesn't
even matter.
You're gonna find your way tothat answer much quicker by

(20:05):
thinking about that.
So I've spent my time thinkingabout me being healthy and
finding those answers.
And I didn't really care wherethey came from.
You know, I didn't care whatthey were.
They maybe have been something Iknew about, maybe something I
didn't know about.
But I just said I see mehealthy, and all of a sudden,

(20:26):
look at I'm looking at myself inthe mirror, and I'm getting
healthier every day, and I'mgoing back to what I looked like
when I was completely healthy.
And exactly, I I think it has alot to do with that, you know,
you're creating in your mind, whether it's through prayer or
intention or whatever you wantto call it, your mind is a

(20:51):
powerful, powerful force thatcreates all the time, and you
understand that.
So, Richard, um, you've beenthrough, yeah, I know you say
I've gone through somethingworse than you, and maybe I came
closer to dying than you did.

(21:12):
And and and in that context, Iguess you could say it's worse,
but you've been through a lot ofshit.
And and so for the listeners, you know, I encourage you to go
back.
Uh, Richard has probablyrecorded a dozen episodes with
us, and he's talked about someof his injuries, and you were in

(21:32):
the military, you were in lawenforcement, you sustained a um,
you almost died.
You you sustained a verytraumatic brain injury, and
you've sustained shoulder injuryand neck injuries.
And why don't you tell us alittle bit about that journey?

(21:56):
Because you know, you've beendealing with all of that through
the VA and and finding your ownholistic answers and and working
with our products and all ofthese things that you're you're
finding your way to your health.
Why don't you share a little bitabout that journey?

SPEAKER_02 (22:13):
Yes, it's uh well, ever since my mom passed in two
years ago, uh December, uh it'sbeen quite challenging, not just
you know, her passing, but justpicking the pieces up, you know,
and finding out things thatwe've had to deal with, our
health, you know, starting todecline and figuring out where

(22:35):
where and why, you know, thethings were going on.
Um yeah, with the VA, that it'spretty much Joe, since 2017 or
2015, February 14th, and 1542hours.
That's whenever, you know, Ialmost lost my life on duty as a
law enforcement officer.

(22:55):
Uh from that point till now, I'mstill battling and trying to get
doctors to see me or treat meand things like that.
So holistically, really, that'sbeen my go-to.
And the only thing that I can Icould say that has benefited in
why I'm still here and thecondition that I am, is because
of I've I've tried to go.

(23:16):
She sent me the VA once I gethere in South Carolina.
Uh, she walked me, you know, through it, got me, you know,
set up and everything here, transitioning, meaning through
the VA uh from Cali to SouthCarolina, and uh determined that
you know, from the pri theoriginal incident on duty, that

(23:37):
was when I dislocated my arm.
It was just with all the all thetrauma and how my my body was,
it it just froze that that wayuntil I got uh physical therapy
done here in South Carolina.
It exposed it the bone becausethey reset like I was I had like

(23:58):
two inches short on my rightside because my hip would touch
my uh my rib cage.
Wow.
And so right, they fixed that, you know, with inversion table
and physical therapy.
So when I had an x-ray dental, you know, it's like okay, we can
work on your shoulder now.
They determined that oh, youneed surgery because your your

(24:19):
your collarbone is is notattached to the chest plate.

SPEAKER_00 (24:24):
Yeah, you showed me some of those images, and it's
just like wow, yeah.
And it's got a world of mess inthat body, yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (24:33):
I I constantly walk around even till now, you know,
with a dislocated arm.

SPEAKER_00 (24:39):
You're the guy doing a thousand push-ups a day.

SPEAKER_02 (24:42):
Yeah, well, I'm gonna I'm probably gonna have to
go back to that because I'mgonna have to do something about
the arm, and I think it justneeds reset, to be honest.
But the bone poke protrudinginto the throat, into the
esophagus is really getting oldbecause it's not set in the
shoulder.
So these are all the things I'vebeen trying to do, and it's led

(25:05):
me to you know, to really drawto God and trust Him and find
holistic ways that are naturalthat you know I can get help now
instead of waiting six months tosee a doctor, you know, knowing
that I need surgery.
Like last January was scheduledand it's still not done.
Now the bone is healed, they saythey can't do the surgery.

SPEAKER_00 (25:27):
So like I'm forced to you know, take my health into
my own hands, and that's whatI've been doing, is just and
that's how I beat the cancer,and that's how I'm gonna keep
beating everything else, is justthat's been the message of this
podcast for a while now is thatyou know, you have to take your
own health into your own hands.

(25:49):
You know, a lot of people uhthey find they got some kind of
a problem.
They go to a doctor, and thedoctor says, Well, here's what
you got to do, and then yougotta schedule this thing.
And then all of a sudden they'relike a month or two or more
without treatment.
And then sometimes you slipthrough the cracks and or

(26:10):
something gets canceled, or youknow, whatever.
And all of a sudden, you know, somebody else is like, Well, we
can't do that anymore becauseyour your body healed wrong, or
whatever.
And uh you can't just take that, like you have to take control

(26:31):
and keep trying until you findwhat you need.

SPEAKER_02 (26:36):
Yes.

SPEAKER_00 (26:38):
So you know, you got this bone problem, and we'll get
into the cancer in a bit, but umwhat do you what do you what's
your plan of action for thatright now?

SPEAKER_02 (26:53):
Uh just isolation movements.
Uh I pretty much I'm stayingaway from any time of type of
push-pull type of movement.
Uh-huh.
Uh, there's pretty much onlythree to different degree angles
that I can put I can work my armin because of the displacement.

(27:14):
So I'm working on those, youknow, doing uh shoulder work uh
with bands and stuff, and that'sstrengthening the inner
interterior, uh which are yourslow twitch muscles, or your
fast twitch muscles or your slowfi the muscle fibers that attach
to the bone to the muscles.

(27:35):
So I'm strengthening those nowand it's getting better, but um
we have uh an appointment the34th 1st, so we'll find out from
there.
Okay, I've been playing doctorsis getting, you know, just what
I tell everybody is to researchyour condition.

(27:57):
All right, that's the best thingI can tell anybody, and then go
from there.
And that's that's what I'vedone.
Those are the things that I I'mnot on WMD web or anything like
that.
I just look up my condition inholistic ways that it can help.
And I really feel that everyoneshould grow get into the into

(28:18):
growing because it really, youknow, this it really teaches you
a lot about who you are as aperson or who we are, you know,
and how we function.
And what you know it's kind oflike raising a raising a child,
you know, you don't know what todo.
Correct.

(28:39):
And the reason why I say that isbecause we're all built from the
same minerals and and that.
So balancing our body with pHlevel, giving us the right
nutrients, and and and sunlight.
You do those three things, thebody can heal from anything.

SPEAKER_00 (28:58):
Yeah, just going outside.
You know, um, we we call it uhtherapeutic horticulture.
And you know, the idea is justget outside in nature and work
with it, and like you said, youknow, just taking care, planting
a seed or or preparing a spacein the ground, taking the time

(29:21):
to know what that plant needsand giving it that love and
care, being outside, breathingthe fresh air, and and you share
energy with these plants thatyou're taking care of, you know.
And yes, you're watering them, and then they're turning around
giving you something.
You maybe you can't see it orhear it or feel it, but it's

(29:43):
it's happening, and you alwaysfeel better after you've been
outside working in the garden alittle bit.

SPEAKER_02 (29:49):
Oh, yeah.
And and the re to touch on that, like when you're researching it
and finding out, well, what howcan I if I have a cold, but what
do I What can I do to get rid ofthat?
You know, and that's pretty muchwhat I was dealing with all the
issues is just proper pH balanceand then the bolly and and

(30:12):
pushing a lot of super greens.
Yeah, for sure.
Yeah, because I going throughthe process in the beginning, I
didn't I could I had to stayaway from the the the sugar from
fruit as well.
Right.

SPEAKER_00 (30:33):
Yeah, as long as you're eating the whole fruit,
you know, if you if you just uhfiber, then it's a whole
different thing.
But if you're getting the wholefruit or if you make juice, make
sure you got all that pulp inthere too, because that's what
helps it to disperse slowly intoyour body and not just overrun

(30:55):
you with a bunch of sugar.

SPEAKER_02 (30:58):
Yeah, so she's really been supportive in like
all the changes around, like asfar as groceries and everything
that we've had to like throw outand and the new way of eating.
It's been quite a challenge, butuh she's very supportive, and
and now she's it actually doingyou know what I'm doing, and
she's feeling better.

(31:19):
She actually likes it.
So I just feel that if we can wecan we can change how we feel or
how we interact with each otherjust based on nutrients.

SPEAKER_00 (31:30):
I couldn't agree more.
I think that's uh one of thefundamental pillars of health,
um uh aligned with um stressmanagement, sleep, and and a few
others.
Um, I think that exercise, movement, um, community, uh, all
of those things together willfind a pathway to health for

(31:54):
just about anybody.
I know that we're running low ontime for this episode, but I
want to introduce your uh justto touch on your journey with
cancer, and um you know, you'regoing through all of this issue

(32:16):
with your shoulder and your neckand and not being able to
breathe and not being able tomove and the pain and all of
this stuff, and then all of asudden something else pops up.
Why don't you share just alittle bit about that?
And then maybe next episode wecan walk through that whole
journey with you.

SPEAKER_02 (32:34):
Yeah, well, it this started probably around a little
over four, maybe four and a halfmonths ago.
It was when we we flew to NewYork.
Uh, I just I wasn't reallyfeeling really well, and uh you
know, those issues had beengoing on.
I just been was denying it, youknow, and it was starting to get

(32:55):
you know pretty bad.
So I spoke up when we we were inNew York, and when we got home,
uh I I had to be rushed to theemergency room with pain for the
left quadrant uh in my stomacharea, the left quadrant.
So if it's on the left side,it's your it's your uh your your

(33:16):
colon.
If it's on, I mean on your rightside, it's on your your colon.
If it's on the left side, it'syour pancreas.
Okay.
So uh they did an MRI, they dida CT scan and came back saying
that I had a large larger thanthree centimeter uh gallstone,
and it was blocking the the tubeduct.
So they wanted me to have acolonoscopy done, which I'm

(33:39):
still waiting for.
Oh wow, and and everything, andI just said, here we go again,
you know, like uh I already havecancer, you know, now, and now I
I have this on top of it, and Iwas just starting to lose my
mind a little bit.

SPEAKER_00 (33:56):
So when when they diagnosed the cancer, did they
do a biopsy or what how did theydetermine that you had this a
tumor or whatever?

SPEAKER_02 (34:07):
Well, when I had the uh CT scan and MRI done, oh
okay, it it revealed the goldstone and uh end up going and
seeing my doctor, which was mynew PCM through the VA.
Got it.
They're your primary caredoctor, what what they call

(34:29):
them.
Uh he's he uh reassured me thatall my blood work and everything
came back good and nothing wasmetatistic, meaning that the
cancer or whatever hadn't movedanywhere, hadn't moved anywhere.

SPEAKER_00 (34:43):
That's the best news you could get.

SPEAKER_02 (34:45):
Yes, meaning that it it hadn't uh spread.
Right.
So uh I just I started thinking, well, my mom passed a pancreatic
cancer, right?
My which on the paperwork saysin her in her left intestine,
but that's where it originated, and when they biopsied, it

(35:07):
spread.
So it went to the pancreas, andthat's where it just within a
few days she was gone.
Um but uh she had a hip ahistory of uh gallstones and
things like that, so that whichcould be a a really good uh
episode to do on hereditaryinheritance and you know on uh

(35:27):
DNA structure because those arethings that we pass on to our
children.

SPEAKER_00 (35:32):
Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (35:33):
Um which can be corrected, but it has to be
corrected with the priorgeneration, which is us.

SPEAKER_00 (35:38):
Catch it early, yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (35:40):
And that's because you're still living, because
we're uh you know, so if we'restill we we can we can end up
taking care of that so theydon't they don't have to worry
about it.
So this is like like a blueprintand and changing that.
And I I truly feel that umunderstanding what my mom's
issues were that I couldpossibly have.

(36:03):
Um and I just started, you know,it these things started popping
up.
My cult, I had a I had agallstone, she's had those, she
had the pancreatic cancer, youknow.
It just was too many clues.
Right.
Started digging into you knowhow how can I beat this?
Yeah, it's been uh cucumberjuice and really pH balancing my

(36:28):
my system, uh overloading thechlorophyll, you know, in my
cells and cellularly hydratingmy my tissues.
Um it it it that's the beginningof life, you know, is is how
plants grow and it's and theyget this uh photosynthesis from
the light, you know, or the sun.

(36:49):
Well, when there's that vibrantgreen, that's the pH, you know,
balance.

SPEAKER_00 (36:53):
So if we're acidic, our blood is that same life
force you're drinking it in, andit's uh it's it's feeding you
the same way it it it grew allthose vegetables.

SPEAKER_02 (37:03):
Exactly.
So I I needed to saturate my mycellular you know structure with
the right nutrients to see if Icould, you know, battle and and
do this.
And it it's been working, andI'm still here, and the doctors
are, you know, especially my newPS PCM, he he's just like blown

(37:24):
away that what I've been dealingwith, uh I'm not dealing with.

SPEAKER_00 (37:31):
So no, I I I couldn't agree more, and and you
know, you're going at it the wayyou need to from all directions.
And just because you know youyou're taking care of yourself
with some vegetables andsupplements and whatnot doesn't
mean you don't keep movingforward with the doctor stuff,

(37:51):
because the doctors can do somestuff that, you know, once you
have a problem, like if you gota gallstone or a kidney stone or
a whatever the thing is, yourbody sometimes has a real hard
time getting rid of that all byitself.
Or there are tools that could beused with ultrasound or or

(38:12):
whatever they they the differentthings they have that can break
it all up and and make it sothat it can pass without you
know killing you in the process.
So you're doing it, in myopinion, the best way.
You got to be diligent and yougotta keep on those doctors, but
you don't stop there, you know, you keep on researching and

(38:33):
learning.
And I think when we do the nextepisode, I want to talk about
all the different um people thathave come into your um into your
orbit.
You know, you've met all thesedifferent uh people that are
working with different medicinesand different supplements and
fruits and and um and and youknow, finding your way to these

(38:57):
answers and then you know walkus through that whole journey.

SPEAKER_02 (39:02):
Yes, that'd be that that'd be awesome because I
think it's it's uh I I don'tthink just the way that I heal
myself is for everybody.
I I I I do believe that thecancer is something that does
affect an individual indifferent parts of the body.

(39:24):
And knowing that is is the rightstructure of where you can
attack it, because if you canknow the right source to attack,
then you're pretty much you knowbetter off any if you have that
ammo available to you.
And nine times out of ten, whensomebody's dealing with any type
of cancer issue or any type ofuh debilitating disease, they

(39:46):
don't know where to start,right?
So, like yours, your your yourswas in your in the lymphatic
system, you know, and lymphnodes and that, and you know, it
and cleansing through what youhave gone through has helped you
beat what you what is attackingyour your lymphatic system.
Sure.
So with mine, it's anintestinal, so it's more of a

(40:07):
central nervous system intact.
So, you know, I I do believesharing our messages, putting
the information out there thatwe provide that is helped us,
those are the right toolsbecause what we're really doing,
Joe, it's not out there, youknow.
Oh, I agree.
And this is uh a natural wayunder God, our bodies are

(40:31):
designed to handle and and anddeal with, you know, that we're
we're being misinterpreted andmisinformed on the right
knowledge to you know to healourselves.

SPEAKER_00 (40:43):
Well, and I also think that like my message isn't
do what I did and you'll cureyour cancer.
My message is this is what Idid, and I can teach you how to
find your answer too.
Exactly.
And and you know, your answermight be a little different than
mine, or maybe some of thethings I do will be instrumental

(41:04):
in helping you, but maybe yougot to do a couple of things
different that I didn't have todo.
But just being aware of how tofind that information and how to
evaluate, how to considersources of information and that
sort of thing, I think it'sinstrumental in anybody finding

(41:25):
their way to health.

SPEAKER_02 (41:26):
Yes, it's just like you know, I'm I'm I'm a Marine,
you know, pri prior, you know, and one of the things I could
put is like a uh subliminalmessage to think about is like
when you you attack, is whenwhen we're in the Marines and we
were under fire, we we get in alittle huddled, uh planet attack

(41:46):
if we were gonna do a raid orwhatever, we would draw it out.
And it wasn't just from thelieutenant, you know, we're
gonna do this and this is howwe're gonna do it, because
sometimes that doesn't work out.
So we would all put our put allour input into it and and and
then come to a term to whereokay, this is an attack and we
can we can move forward now.
You know, it's everybody's inputto take care of one goal.

(42:10):
And I think that you know, there's plenty of ammunition
that we could provide or helpsomebody else figure figure out
you know their battle plan andon on their field as well.

SPEAKER_00 (42:21):
I couldn't agree more.
Well, Richard, it's been anabsolute treat.
And uh I know we we burn up timeso quickly in our conversations,
and uh I'm I'm really lookingforward to uh getting back into
a routine of us talking about umour lives and our health, and
and uh you know it's it's it'screating a beacon that other

(42:44):
people can find uh answers.
And you know, it I know you workwith people.
Is there um is there a way thatpeople can reach you if
somebody's listening to this andgoing, well, I want to talk to
Richard and and and learn more.
How can somebody get a hold ofyou?

SPEAKER_02 (43:04):
Uh yeah, they can reach out through email or uh
online at Irish I had C B D.
You can just you know contact methere or on the yellow footprint
fitness page on Facebook.
Okay, or you can just email meat r mcclifefitness at gmail,

(43:27):
and we we can go from there.
Um I I would like to start youknow doing a lot more that way.
We could set up like a a simpleconsistency of routine.
I know that's pretty much beenon my part with the everything
that I've had to deal with, butuh I can breathe, I can talk,

(43:47):
you know, so I'm demonstratingnow while I have that you know
comfort to be able to do thosethings.
So I'm looking forward to youknow talking to you more and and
getting things on the rightpath.

SPEAKER_00 (44:03):
I love it, I love it.
All right, Richard.
Well, I appreciate you comingback, and uh, we look forward to
uh spending a lot more timetogether here in this platform.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
