Þann 13. nóvember 1913 lést maður að nafni Eyjólfur Jónsson eftir 13 daga af kvölum. Andlát hans benti til eiturbyrlunar, og vaknaði strax grunur um að systir hans Júlíana Silfá Jónsdóttir væri ábyrg. Hlaut hún dauðadóm, sem varð sá síðast í sögu Íslands.
