Andrew (00:06):
Hello and welcome back
everybody to Legends Loot Lore
another fun and exciting episode.
I am so thrilled today to behere with my lifelong companion
(00:28):
as we journey down the road oflife together.
Catherine (00:31):
Your long-suffering
companion Wow.
Andrew (00:36):
Fair, my wife Katherine,
hello, hello.
Catherine (00:42):
And again, there will
be no rock-none voices today.
No rock-none.
Andrew (00:45):
So Katherine and I are
both under the weather, trying
to try to put out a podcastepisode this week, so we're
going to see how we do.
Also, joining us today is Fable.
Hi.
Fable's busy trying to findtheir friends.
Fable (00:59):
I found them.
Okay, they're giving me talkingpoints.
Andrew (01:02):
Oh, excellent, yes, so
we're going to talk about a
couple fun things today.
So last week was the secondsession for our actual play.
So quick recap.
The party went up to theCragmaw Cave, the Cragmaw
hideout, where all the othergoblins were hiding.
They had Vincent with them.
(01:24):
They, zanros' character, didher best to recruit goblins to
work at the B&B.
She was very successful ingetting up to six of them beyond
Vincent, so it was Vincent plussix.
Catherine (01:39):
Plus two wolves.
Andrew (01:40):
Plus two.
Catherine (01:40):
Seven goblins and two
wolves and two wolves, which is
excellent.
Andrew (01:43):
So seven goblins and two
wolves in her employ.
She hasn't quite.
I don't know if she's paid themyet anything.
No, so I want to see when theyget antsy.
They may get.
They may get a little antsy andstart looking for pay if
they're following you around andnot doing anything.
Catherine (01:59):
Have they done any
work yet?
Andrew (02:01):
Yeah, but they're not
getting.
They're not getting paidbecause they were looting and
plundering people on thetri-bore trail.
Catherine (02:07):
Uh-huh.
Andrew (02:08):
And now, now they're
just following you around for
some promise of-.
Catherine (02:11):
They're getting fed.
Andrew (02:13):
Are they?
Catherine (02:13):
I'll feed them.
Andrew (02:14):
You feed them, yeah, and
what are we?
Well, what are we gonna?
What's speaking of feeding?
That's the other thing we'regoing to talk about.
We're going to talk about thenext recipe that we're making.
Catherine (02:23):
Oh yeah.
Andrew (02:24):
Out of the Heroes Feast
Cookbook.
Do tell Zanros I won't sayZanros, catherine.
So because you're not going todo Zanros' voice.
Catherine (02:31):
So I don't think I
can, catherine, I wonder if I
can.
Should I try it?
No, don't I?
Andrew (02:37):
kind of want to try.
Now, you're gonna, you're gonnaburst into a coughing fit.
Catherine (02:40):
I probably will, but
I'm gonna try.
Yes, you try it.
Fable (02:43):
Oh God wait, I don't
think I can do it either.
Catherine (02:47):
Let me try it
Heartlands, roseapple and
Blackberry Pie.
Andrew (02:52):
All right, so we are, oh
my God, so we are gonna, we're
gonna, I, I, like I said, Ibriefly wanted to talk about
what happened last week.
So so you, you cleared out thecaves.
Yep, you, you defeated ClarkGriswold, the bugbear leader of
the the Cragmaw goblins.
Catherine (03:11):
Yeah, who should have
just come to work for me?
Andrew (03:14):
He really should have,
but he was, he was, he was
beholden to King Dave Grohl.
Yeah, and someone named thespider.
Yes, so you heard this.
You heard somebody named thecalled, who's being called the
spider Right, which we don'tknow much about, this mysterious
spider yet.
Catherine (03:34):
I think we can assume
that, and I'm not gonna be able
to think of his name.
Andrew (03:39):
What's that?
Catherine (03:40):
Gundren.
Andrew (03:40):
Gundren Rockseeker.
Catherine (03:41):
I'm pretty sure
spider has him because we found
the other guy.
Andrew (03:45):
You found Sildar, you
rescued Sildar?
Fable (03:47):
Oh yeah, I was like
tortured and half dead.
Andrew (03:49):
Yes, Not all dead,
though, just mostly dead, mostly
dead.
Fable (03:53):
That's what I did right
down, the one thing I did right
down.
My notes are very interesting.
Andrew (04:00):
Interesting.
Fable (04:00):
Killed.
Manager Clark tortured.
Looking for a map.
Mutter spider, that's all I.
That's all I got.
Andrew (04:06):
Interesting.
Catherine (04:07):
Yeah, so Sildar
muttered spider, which means oh,
I think Gundren's was spiderbeing taken to.
King Dave Grohl.
Andrew (04:15):
What?
Who's in charge there's?
There's like is is is is incharge.
I wrote down.
I want Charles in charge of me.
I bet you do.
That sounds wait.
Fable (04:26):
Yeah, I wrote down
investigating human wizard, a
part of Lord's Alliance, and I'mpretty sure I spelled this
phonetically.
So Ayrindos is his name, I'mnot that's oh, yeah, there's
somebody else.
Andrew (04:41):
I'd have to look up in
my notes.
But yeah, there there issomebody else Sildar.
Sildar was going to go to FanDale and to look for somebody
else, and I think that's whoyou're referring to there.
Fable (04:52):
Probably my notes are.
Catherine (04:54):
Shit Was he going
there when he met up with
Gundren.
Andrew (04:59):
I think, I think they
were both on their way to Fan
Dale and they kind of teamed uptogether because, because
Gundren wanted A team up.
It's a team up.
I, I think they, I thinkGundren, wanted to help getting
there some protection on the way, and so I think Sildar just
kind of accompanied him on theway, and Sildar had his own
(05:22):
reasons for heading to Fan Daleand, but unbeknownst to Gundren,
but unbeknownst to us, so sothere's that.
So and oh, there was the, therewas the rushing water, remember
.
They released the, the extrawater, and and Dal got washed
(05:44):
away but fortunately passed, passed her strength save and
didn't get completely washed outof the cave.
So that was good.
And and what else?
You got a bunch of.
You're going to take all thesupplies, because there was a
bunch of leftover supplies thatthey had looted from travelers.
So you're going to bring thoseback.
And I think that guy was goingto get you 50 gold.
Catherine (06:08):
Yes.
Andrew (06:09):
Because you were.
You were bringing those back toone place and I think Sildar
said he was going to give you 50gold for transporting, for
getting him safely to Fan Dale.
Catherine (06:17):
So it was a hundred
gold plus the 10 that we were
getting.
Fable (06:21):
Supplies to loot.
You get 50 gold pieces and Iwrote down all the treasure we
got because I had my prioritystraight right.
Which is inside 1,700 copperpieces.
So we got 566 each two left, which we gave to Vincent.
150 silver pieces, 50 each.
Two potions of healing Jadestatue with golden eyes worth 40
(06:45):
pieces.
Catherine (06:46):
Yeah, Now I don't
know.
I thought it was just 50 whenwe got there, but I don't
remember Sildar saying he wasgoing to pay us 50.
I think.
Andrew (06:53):
I think Sildar said he
would, he would, he would pay
you $50, $50, 50 gold pieces tosomebody give me $50.
Yes.
Catherine (07:05):
Awesome.
Andrew (07:06):
Sildar will give you 50
gold to to transport him safely
to.
Catherine (07:10):
Fan Dale.
Andrew (07:11):
That works All right.
So that was kind of the thebackstory.
So you've got Sildar, you'vegot I think you were.
You were heading back to yourwagon, that was.
That was that you had hidden onthe tri-bore trail and we're
getting ready to go the rest ofthe way to Fan Dale and, if I
recall correctly, yes.
(07:32):
Yeah, so.
So that's the recap of lastweek.
The brief, the brief history oftime.
We're also going to talk aboutwhat's sticking out of the I
saved the page.
Oh, okay, I don't know what itis, though.
So we're going to talk aboutleveling up your characters.
(07:56):
Yes, we are level two nowbecause, yes, you are, you are
now level two, so we'll talkabout that and we're also going
to talk about because this is,this is now, so we're, we're,
we're two sessions into this.
So this is really Fable's firstexposure to a kind of pre-made
(08:18):
A book campaign.
A book campaign, yes, a D&Dmodule actually written for D&D.
You, you have played, haveplayed for years in a single
campaign.
Fable (08:30):
We started it.
Wait, didn't I just tell youwhat?
We started it?
Where was it?
Andrew (08:33):
2020.
It was June of 2020.
No, 2022.
2022.
Fable (08:38):
June of 2022.
And we've been playing the samecampaign ever since and it's
been entirely homebrew and ithas brought up some unique
challenges and also it's sodifferent.
Andrew (08:50):
Yes, so we will.
We will talk about that as well.
All right, so let's talk aboutleveling up your character.
Yes, so up next to your nameand D&D.
So we're doing this all in D&DBeyond.
Yeah, so up next to your name.
See where it says manage.
Catherine (09:02):
Yep.
Andrew (09:03):
So go to manage Yep and
then under that my character,
you see manage character andlevels.
Catherine (09:08):
I see, okay, oh, so I
can change it to level one.
Andrew (09:16):
No, no, you want to be
level two.
Okay, because you alreadypicked these things, yes, so
let's talk about it and see.
It tells you at what level yougot different things.
Catherine (09:30):
Okay, so like I got
key and unarmored movement at
second level.
Andrew (09:34):
Yes, so you got the
ability to use key.
So, starting at second level, your training allows you to
harness the mystic energy of key.
Your access to this energy isrepresented by a number of key
points.
Your monk level determines thenumber of points you have and
(09:56):
there's a whole monk table thatthat shows you based on what
level, how many I have to.
So you have two key points atthe moment.
Yes, now this is where you canspend the key points on.
You start with three featuresYep.
Flurry of blows yeah, known toothers as fury of blows, only
(10:17):
Mike.
Patient defense, yep.
And step of the wind Right, youget.
You get more abilities as youlevel up.
Um, when you spend a key point, this is the nice thing you get
key points after a short or longrest.
Catherine (10:40):
Yeah.
Andrew (10:41):
Cause you must spend at
least 30 minutes of the rest
meditating to regain your keypoints.
So you don't have to, you don'thave to always have a long rest
to get these back, which isreally nice.
So you can have.
You can have as little as onehour to to regain your, your key
points.
Fable (10:56):
That is really good yeah.
Andrew (10:58):
Short rests.
Certain, getting certainabilities back at a short rest
is really helpful.
So what is you want to talkabout the?
The three features flurry ofblows, short defense and step of
the wind yeah, so flurry ofblows immediately after you take
the attack action on your turn.
Catherine (11:16):
you can spend one key
point to make two unarmed
straight Strike, two unarmedstrikes as a bonus action, a
patient defense.
You can spend one key point totake the dodge action as a bonus
action on your turn and step ofthe wind.
You can spend one key point totake the disengage or dash
action as a bonus action on yourturn and your jump distance is
(11:39):
doubled for the turn.
Andrew (11:42):
So what does all that
mean?
So let's talk about flurry ofblows first.
So this one, this one's reallynice because it gets you.
So after you take an attackaction, you can take two more
unarmed strikes as a bonusaction.
Now I think I think you alreadyget.
(12:04):
You already got like onebecause you're unarmored.
Yeah, I think you already gotone bone.
You could use one unarmored.
Keep saying unarmed, unarmedattack.
You make one unarmed attack asa bonus, but this gives you two
unarmed strikes after your mainattack, which is really nice.
(12:26):
So basically, three attacks onyour turn, which is really
really good.
I mean, they're only unarmed,so it's not.
It's not a huge amount ofdamage, but it's extra damage
that you couldn't do normally.
Catherine (12:41):
And it's only if I
want to use key points.
Right, right, yeah.
Andrew (12:44):
Exactly Now.
Patient defense is a nice onebecause you can use dodge as a
bonus action.
Catherine (12:51):
Yeah.
Andrew (12:52):
Which is really helpful.
So you don't have to use yourmain action.
You can attack and then usedodge as the bonus.
So you don't, because dodgewould normally be your, your
action for a turn.
So you can use that as a bonusafter you make an attack.
Catherine (13:07):
So what am I doing?
Dodging one of the bad guys?
Andrew (13:11):
Dodge, duck, dip, dive
and dodge.
You can dodge out of the way.
Why must I test you?
Catherine (13:23):
Do I have to take
that action during my turn, or
is it on like the opponent'sturn?
Andrew (13:31):
No, that's, that's your
bonus action.
Catherine (13:35):
So what's the point
of it?
You see what I'm saying.
If nobody's doing anything tome right now, why do I want to
dodge?
Andrew (13:43):
Well, I think that's a
really good question.
Let me look up dodge.
So dodge when you take thedodge action, you focus entirely
on avoiding attacks until thestart of your next turn.
This is the benefit to dodgeAny attack roll made against you
has disadvantage.
(14:03):
So you take the dodge on yourturn, but until your next turn,
anything, any attack against youhas disadvantage If you can see
the attacker and you makedexterity saving throws with
advantage.
Catherine (14:17):
Okay, I feel like I'm
never going to use that.
That's a good one, though.
Andrew (14:26):
Really, absolutely, if
you're, if you're in the heat of
battle and you use dodge meansanybody that tries to make an
attack on you, until your nextturn.
They have a disadvantage, sothe likelihood that they're
going to hit you is that muchless Lower.
Fable (14:41):
Yeah, That'd be good if
you were in like the middle of a
right, right with my whole 12hit points.
Andrew (14:47):
But you're, you're a
melee fighter.
You're, you're in them, in theheat of battle.
You're, you're in the midst of.
Fable (14:53):
Yeah, that would actually
be good, because imagine you're
in a group of people andthey're all going to want to
come at you, but now they havelike stuffed animals on them.
Like it's a bit harder to get agood blow in.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, yeah.
Or if they're all drunk, Idon't know.
Andrew (15:13):
Well, just means it
means well, because imagine,
imagine Neo in the matrix.
Right, you know when he, whenhe does his little lean back,
that's what you're, you'redodging those attacks.
Yeah, so because you can movefaster than the bullets, they
have disadvantage on you, right, right, that would.
That would be the the benefitto that.
Catherine (15:37):
That's cool then.
Andrew (15:38):
And then, last but not
least, step of the wind.
This is a great one, because?
So the dash action.
Catherine (15:47):
Yeah.
Andrew (15:48):
The dash action would be
your, your action.
What that does is that it meansit doubles your, your movement
speed.
Okay, so I think you're what?
25 feet, I don't, if I recallcorrectly, because it because
you're small.
So I think you're, I am small,yeah.
Catherine (16:03):
It is 25.
Andrew (16:04):
Yeah, you only have 25
feet movement, so you could dash
and move 50 feet Right and thenyou could dash action.
That would have been your turn.
You couldn't attack aftermaking that dash action Got it.
So here you can use the dashaction as a bonus action, right,
and still be able to attack, soyou could.
(16:25):
So if somebody were far awayyou could go running up at them
really fast, right, and thenstill attack them instead of
running, wack the crap out ofthem.
Yeah, instead of you running upto them, yeah, and then they get
a free hit at you because youcan't attack them, right, so you
get?
You get the best of both worldswith that.
Catherine (16:40):
Okay, cool.
So that's Miley Cyrus of you.
Andrew (16:43):
Yeah, and then you Wow.
Catherine (16:49):
Fables good Be the
eyes.
Fable (16:51):
Do you get the?
Catherine (16:51):
reference.
Fable (16:52):
Possibly.
Catherine (16:54):
It's Hannah Montana.
Fable (16:55):
Yeah.
Catherine (16:57):
I know Hannah Montana
Get the best of both worlds.
Andrew (17:01):
That's right.
Sorry, makes me think of clerks.
Um, the other thing you get atsecond level is unarmored
movement.
Yes, so starting at secondlevel, this is a good one.
Your speed increases by 10 feetwhile you are not wearing armor
(17:23):
or wielding a shield.
The bonus increases when youreach certain monk levels, as
shown on the monk tables.
Catherine (17:30):
So does that mean, my
speed is always 35 feet now?
Andrew (17:33):
Yes, oh, cool, as long
as you don't have armor or have
a shield Right, you're up to 35feet now, cool, so that's great
for a small character.
Catherine (17:43):
Yeah.
Andrew (17:45):
So that means with
unarmored movement and step of
the wind, you can actually go 70feet on a turn.
Cool, and remember that's alsoyour jumping distance is doubled
for your turn, so you couldleap over tall buildings.
Fable (18:06):
I'm like a tigger, a
single.
He just got so much better.
Andrew (18:09):
That's true, oh yeah, we
didn't talk about the floor
routine.
Fable (18:13):
We didn't talk about the
floor routine, and we should
talk about the floor routine.
Andrew (18:16):
So let's talk about the
floor routine.
Catherine (18:19):
I just want to sing
the tigger song now, so I'm no
good.
Andrew (18:23):
Sing the tigger song.
No, I'm not going to oh okay, what's in my head, god, that's
what's in your head, yes, sotalk about your floor routine.
You have you have Advantage orno, or proficiency in acrobatics
yes, so we're creating a floorroutine.
Catherine (18:42):
We like to dance,
that's excellent.
Andrew (18:45):
Is this going to be like
dinner and a show at the at the
BNB?
Catherine (18:49):
Oh yeah, we could
totally do that.
Andrew (18:52):
You're like I'm going to
put on a show for you people.
Catherine (18:54):
That's like the uh.
Okay, so Gordon Ramsay, yes, hotel Hell, yes, the best Gordon
Ramsay show.
Well, I got canceled.
I will never know.
He went to one place where thelady just insisted who owned the
?
Who owned the hotel insisted onperforming in the restaurant.
She was very bad but thoughtshe sounded just like Cher.
(19:15):
Oh, and that's Zan Rose now.
Andrew (19:19):
Zan Rose is going to put
on a little show Excellent.
Catherine (19:22):
And then D and D
Gordon Ramsay is going to come
along and Well, there's D and DGuy Fieri in our home group
campaign.
Fable (19:33):
He's a dragon born Nice.
Catherine (19:36):
Does he have flames
on his shirt?
Fable (19:38):
I think you know.
Andrew (19:41):
Does he come from flavor
town?
Yes, Awesome.
Catherine (19:44):
All right, I've seen
Guy Fieri in the flesh.
Fable (19:48):
Oh, my God really.
Catherine (19:49):
Yes, he looks exactly
like Guy Fieri, like he looks
exactly like you expect him tolook.
Yes, he was eating dinner in arestaurant where I was having
dinner with a couple of friendsand we all took turns going to
the bathroom so we could walkpast his table and get a look at
him.
Andrew (20:05):
Very nice.
Catherine (20:06):
Very nice.
Andrew (20:06):
All right, so those are.
Those are the two things yougot.
Yes, so we also have to talkabout your hit points.
I got two more you have twomore hit points.
Did you roll it?
Catherine (20:20):
Is that what you?
Andrew (20:20):
did?
I don't remember.
Fable (20:24):
No, remember it was a
whole big like problem we were
having.
Andrew (20:27):
No, I don't remember, oh
yeah.
Fable (20:29):
It was a whole thing.
What was the whole thing?
Catherine (20:32):
We like had to pause,
like it wouldn't figure out how
to figure out how to itwouldn't apply.
Fable (20:38):
Yeah, it was like to fix
the setting.
Andrew (20:40):
Yeah Right, it was a
whole thing.
Catherine (20:43):
I don't remember how
I got new hit points, but I got
two new hit points.
I have 12 now.
Wow, twin Z's.
Fable (20:50):
Excellent, so you've got
12 hit points, you got some
great new.
Catherine (20:57):
It does say rolled
hit points were eight hit points
from bonuses or plus four fromconstitution.
Got it so it seems like mytotal possible hit points are 20
, but I don't have that now.
No, all right.
What I do have is a tiny littleunarmored body.
(21:19):
Yes, you do.
You're a martial artist, so Iknow I'm pretty sly, you're
furiously fast.
Andrew (21:24):
Uh huh, pretty cool
during my floor routine.
Catherine (21:30):
That's right.
I can't.
I cannot wait to see this.
I can't wait for Dowl to holdme up over their head like baby
in dirty dancing.
Well, I've had the time of mylife.
Plays in the background.
Nobody puts Zan Rose in thecorner Just as long as Dowl
doesn't drop you and I can paleyou on her horns.
Andrew (21:49):
Oh my God, that's going
to be a little dangerous orbit.
Dowl do your hands reach overyour horns.
Catherine (21:55):
Let's, let's figure
that out, let's figure that one
out, guys.
Andrew (21:58):
I'm curious, can you
tell me what you're thinking
about?
Let's figure that one out, guys.
I'm curious Can can Dowl evenlift you over?
Fable (22:09):
Wait, no, I can check
this, If I there is a way to
check this.
Andrew (22:13):
I'm sure there is.
Yes, you have something on yourmind.
I can see it.
Catherine (22:19):
But if Dowl can't
lift me fully over their head,
they could just lift me in front.
I weigh 29 pounds.
Andrew (22:26):
Yeah, like even I can do
that.
Catherine (22:29):
Right, they could
lift me like this.
Andrew (22:33):
There's still my
slingshot idea.
Catherine (22:35):
Yes, I like that idea
.
I do too.
Andrew (22:38):
Which I'm, which I'm all
for.
Catherine (22:42):
We haven't had the
opportunity to try it yet, but
we will, don't worry.
Fable (22:46):
You can be lifted above
my head.
Andrew (22:49):
Oh, above the horns.
Fable (22:51):
Yes.
Andrew (22:51):
Cool, nice, so Fable.
Let's talk about Dowl'sleveling up.
Fable (22:59):
Okay, how do I do that
again?
I apologize.
Andrew (23:03):
All right, so you got
your character next to your name
.
Fable (23:08):
Manage Character and
levels.
Andrew (23:13):
Yes, all right.
Fable (23:15):
I was there already and
then.
Andrew (23:21):
So what do you get?
What?
What are your second levelAbilities now that you've got
that, you've gotten Channeldivinity, oh, yeah, oh there, it
is All right, there we go.
Fable (23:35):
Yeah, I got channel
divinity.
Andrew (23:38):
Oh, so what is Tell us
about this?
Fable (23:42):
Okay, so where is it?
At second level, you gain theability to channel divine energy
directly from you, directlyfrom your deity, using that
energy to fuel magical effects.
You could start with two turnundead as an effect determined
by your domain.
(24:02):
And what else is here?
I forget what it is.
Andrew (24:09):
So now you can, you can
turn undead.
Fable (24:11):
I believe I can.
As an action, you present yourholy symbol and speak a prayer.
Andrew (24:18):
Centering the undead.
Yes, oh.
Fable (24:21):
So each undead that can
see or hear you within 30 feet
must make a wisdom saving throw.
If the creature fails, it isturned for one minute or until
it takes any damage.
A turned creature must spendits turns trying to move as far
away from you as it can, and itcan't willingly move to a space
within 30 feet of you.
It also can't take reactionsfor its action.
(24:43):
It can use only the dash actionor to try to escape from an
effect that prevents it frommoving.
Andrew (24:50):
And if there's no way to
move the?
Fable (24:51):
creature can use a dodge
action.
Andrew (24:55):
That's pretty cool.
Fable (24:56):
And that's the first
option for channel divinity.
Right, that's another, and thatis a preserve life.
You can use your channeldivinity to heal the badly
injured.
So, as an action, you presentyour holy symbol and invoke
healing energy that can restorea number of hit points equal to
five times your cleric level.
Andrew (25:19):
Ooh, so that's what?
10?
Yeah, 10.
Nice.
Fable (25:24):
So any creature from 30
feet of you and divide those hit
points among them.
Andrew (25:28):
Okay.
So since you've got it, likebasically two other people in
your party, you could give them.
If you split it evenly, yougive them five hit points each.
Fable (25:36):
Yeah, this feature can
restore a creature to no more
than half of its hit pointmaximum, and I can't use it on
undead or construct, but that'dbe fine.
Andrew (25:46):
Cool, that's awesome.
Now, what else?
Now you get, you get morespells, right, I do.
Fable (25:54):
Let me go to that real
quick.
Andrew (25:59):
Ooh, detect poison and
disease.
Fable (26:01):
I think that's what I
added.
Andrew (26:03):
That sounds new.
Fable (26:03):
Yeah, I think that is
what I added, and I think I oh,
I added command as well.
So those are my two new ones.
Andrew (26:14):
Got it Cool, cool.
Lots of exciting new spells arealways fun.
Yeah, so, and how many, howmany more hit points did you get
?
Fable (26:28):
I think I just got two.
Andrew (26:31):
All right.
So so we got your character.
We got your characters leveledup, yep, which is really
exciting.
So there they've got all sortsof new abilities, the key points
and stuff for phenomenal forfor monks.
I loved when I played my Tabaximonk.
The key points were wereawesome, but he had he had the
(26:55):
cat's claws, which was likeright, which I think is like a
one D six instead of one D fourfor a, not an unarmed attack, I
think it was a one D four, buthe could use his claws, so it
was like a one D six.
So when you did, the flurry ofblows is like two D six damage.
Catherine (27:15):
Do we want to talk
about what Iquium has?
Sure James isn't here just sothat we've talked about all of
our.
Andrew (27:27):
Let's go to Iquium's
character.
So he's got EldritchInvocations.
He probably had spells too.
He's got Eldritch Blast, whichI think he had, mage hand, which
he had, who dissonant whispers, which is a good one, an unseen
(27:50):
servant.
I don't know which spells hehad.
But let's look at the classfeature.
So Eldritch invocations, whichhe hasn't picked yet.
So in your study of occult lorebecause he's a human warlock,
right In your study of occultlore, you have unearthed
(28:12):
Eldritch invocations, fragmentsof forbidden knowledge that
imbue you with an abidingmagical ability.
At Sino, at second level, yougain two Eldritch invocations of
your choice.
Your invocation options aredetailed at the end of the class
description Yada, yada, yada.
When you gain certain warlocklevels, you gain additional
(28:35):
invocations of your choice, showing the known invocations
column.
Additionally, when you gain alevel in this class, you can
choose one of the invocationsyou know and replace it with
another invocation that youcould learn at that level.
So you can, as you level up,you can always swap them out.
Oh, there's, oh, man, andthere's a bunch of them too.
(28:56):
Oh, some of these names, agonizing blast.
Catherine (29:01):
Nice.
Andrew (29:03):
When you cast Eldritch
Blast, add your charisma
modifier to the damage it dealson a hit.
Armor of shadows.
You can cast Mage Armor onyourself at will without
expending a spell, slot ormaterial components.
Cool Beast speech.
Catherine (29:27):
You can speak with.
Andrew (29:27):
You can speak with
animals at will without
expending a spell slot.
Catherine (29:31):
You can talk to our
wolves.
Andrew (29:34):
Nice Devil's sight.
You can see, normally indarkness, both magical and
non-magical, to a distance of120 feet.
Catherine (29:45):
That'll help him,
because he doesn't have that
would be exactly.
Andrew (29:49):
that'd be really helpful
for a human not having not
having dark vision.
So so he could.
He could, because you couldpick two of them.
You could pick two of these, sohe could definitely pick
devil's sight and get darkvision, which would be nice,
yeah, of course he could picksomething else and then just
(30:09):
rely on us, true?
So the unarmed strike?
No, literally his unarmedstrike.
Catherine (30:16):
Yeah.
Andrew (30:16):
Deals zero damage.
Oh yeah, see that Like on hison his character.
So yeah, unarmed strike, zerodamage.
That sucks.
Well, even when he uses hisstaff he has a melee.
So if he uses a melee weapon asa staff, it deals 1d6 minus
three damage.
So he's got to roll at least afour to do any damage with his
(30:40):
staff.
Catherine (30:41):
Why did we go with
this dude?
Andrew (30:42):
He's useless, he's not,
he's a great spellcaster.
Well, okay.
Catherine (30:46):
So where's that?
Fable (30:47):
He offered us money.
Catherine (30:48):
That's true, fable's
right.
Fable (30:52):
Yeah, I am.
Andrew (30:54):
Yeah, so you guys got
greedy.
All you saw was all you saw wasthe gold.
I was going there anyway.
Yes, you are.
Catherine (31:02):
I need.
I need money to open my B and B.
Andrew (31:05):
But don't you have
family money?
Catherine (31:08):
How dare you, I am an
independent rock gnome.
Andrew (31:14):
Never be confirmed.
Catherine (31:16):
Oh my God.
Fable (31:20):
I had to.
Catherine (31:21):
Fable, just
nepo-babied me, I'm sorry.
I was thinking about the floor.
Yes, the whole point is thatXanrose doesn't want to be a
nepo-baby.
Fable (31:35):
I know I had to say it
though.
Andrew (31:37):
Yeah, but the property
is your parents.
So you still kind of are Wow,Wow, You're going to buy
property or taking your familyland.
I mean All right, so yeah.
So we've talked about all thecharacters leveling up.
Catherine (31:59):
Now what?
Now we wanted to talk aboutfables experience.
Yes, because everything thatfable has done up until now has
been a home brew.
Andrew (32:11):
So this is their first
fable, yes, so, so, let's talk.
So talk to us about yourexperience in the home brew
campaign.
So it was June of 2022.
So it's been about a year and ahalf.
Fable (32:29):
Yes, in that specific
campaign I have been playing for
it tells you on D&D Beyond it'sgreat Like over two years.
Andrew (32:39):
So tell us what's been
your experience.
What, what, what is I mean?
Cause I've played in home brewcampaigns myself, so so what is?
What is your specific campaign?
Who's your DM?
Fable (32:51):
Well, we, the great thing
about home brew is it's it's
flexible.
So we started out.
My DM was my friend, Matt, andhe was DMing our quest.
It was called key quest andbasically we were at this tavern
and the bar keep was like I,there's this chest and no one
(33:13):
can open it.
But if you get the six pedals,I believe I can pull it up, you
can get the key to get thetreasure inside.
But the pedals are scatteredthroughout the world and some of
them we have to fight to getthe pedals.
(33:33):
And there's also the stuff thathappens in between Like well, I
guess we'll get to that later.
I'll talk about our DM rightnow.
So we started out with Matt andthen our player, Kia, gets
kidnapped in the middle of thenight, like a couple of sessions
into this, and now she's the DM.
She's DMing her basicallymurder mystery of how she got
(33:55):
kidnapped.
And now our DM is a player.
Andrew (33:59):
Wow, that's.
That's pretty crazy.
Fable (34:01):
Yeah, it's a lot.
Andrew (34:03):
It sounds like a lot.
So so what has so, now that nowyou've you've had a couple of
sessions in a typical nottypical, but but a kind of
sandbox environment of a DNDofficial module, what, what,
(34:23):
what are the differences betweenthe, between the two?
Fable (34:28):
I think it's pretty
different, both because,
probably because we're playingus all the podcast and we have
to like lock in, we play forlike 10 hours at a time.
Andrew (34:37):
There's a lot of
dilly-dallying.
Fable (34:40):
Um, it feels like a
little bit more rigid and like
in who we face and all of that.
Andrew (34:52):
Uh-huh.
Fable (34:55):
Gosh.
Andrew (34:57):
Yeah, because I mean yes
and no.
So so the, the books, has onething, but I as a DM can still
change things.
So there were far more goblinsin that cave.
Yeah, then, what you actuallyencountered because some of you
(35:18):
were very low on hit points, Ithink what I mean?
Fable (35:24):
I think what I mean by it
is that when you're DMing
homebrew, they have completecreative control.
Andrew (35:31):
Right.
Fable (35:32):
And like we get off
course a lot, and so she just
for the most part unless it'slike really important and she's
do us in the right direction, like make something up, Like
we've done a lot of side questsshe actually made this really
cool um idea for a couple ofdifferent things, but one of the
main ones was we were fishingand we rolled a d12 and that
(35:54):
determined what we'd get, butsome of them were not all fish
and I happened to roll and I hadto fight sans undertale.
Andrew (36:07):
What.
Fable (36:08):
Yep.
Andrew (36:10):
Care to explain.
Fable (36:12):
I had to I.
It turned into a boss fight andI had to fight him, but I was
by myself and I did win, but youknow.
Andrew (36:22):
I did Congratulations,
thank you.
Fable (36:25):
Like stuff like that is
implemented.
She had this, uh, while we werein the city Staleo city, which
she made up, and it's amazingshe had this thing where we
could roll for random encountersIf we're getting bored.
We could roll this dice and arandom encounter would happen.
Right, sophia Nona Storn inthis campaign had to fight John
Cena and she beat his ass within30 seconds and he was like how
(36:50):
do I become like you and like, and she was.
I think she said either, Idon't know something about being
a lesbian.
He's like I got to be a lesbiannow and then he ran away.
Like random stuff, like that.
Andrew (37:03):
So Sophia turned John
Cena lesbian, yes, interesting.
Fable (37:08):
She also had this thing,
uh, where we could get jobs at
the, at the, uh the shops in thecity.
I worked at a Bonnie shop.
We became models.
At one point we got modelingjobs.
We were recruited, we wererecruited to be models and we
got, we got, we got some jobs.
We got we got some jewelry outof it.
Andrew (37:31):
Nice yes.
Fable (37:33):
There's actual pictures
of us posing in real life, by
the way.
Andrew (37:36):
That's awesome.
Fable (37:37):
And we had to roll for
how good we looked and like how
well we did, and I, I failedmiserably because I was nervous.
But Sophia just stood there andthen she rolled like a nat 20.
So he was like, oh my God, Ilove you.
Like, like.
Andrew (37:50):
Very cool.
I mean there there's, there'spluses and minuses to homebrew
and D&D modules.
I mean cause.
I mean again, like you said I'm, D&D modules are somewhat,
you're somewhat constricted by.
Fable (38:07):
She makes up every NPC,
every shop.
She can choose whatever shopshe wants to be.
She can put in whatever shewants into these shops, like the
exploding chicken bombs.
Andrew (38:20):
Yeah.
Fable (38:24):
And she was also able to
help us get a clue into her
character's lore, because therewas this like, basically, thrift
shop and we actually found hercharacter's purse which had
drawings from her childhoodinside, and it was screwed up,
because every single D&Dcharacter's childhood is screwed
up.
Andrew (38:40):
Oh, of course,
Absolutely.
So what do you, what do youlike about our campaign compared
to homebrew, what you're usedto?
Fable (38:50):
I'm playing D&D regularly
.
Andrew (38:53):
That's always a plus.
Fable (38:55):
The problem with us is
that it takes a while to make up
an entire world from scratch.
Andrew (39:00):
Yes, it does Absolutely.
Fable (39:03):
Wait, wait.
They sent me a bunch of things.
Andrew (39:05):
That is.
That is one of the, let's say,a drawback, but it is one of the
things to consider it.
If you are going to build ahomebrew world I mean everything
is of your own imagination soto build those encounters and
develop the NPCs and develop allthe things that come up in that
(39:29):
adventure, it's a lot of work.
It really is a lot of work andI give a lot of credit to
anybody that has that ability, because it's I don't want to say
it's not that it isn't easy,but I mean it's just a lot.
It's a lot to keep track of.
So you've got to be veryorganized.
You've got to be very organizedwhen you are building that
(39:51):
world and and planning it outfor people to play play inside
of it.
Fable (39:55):
Before we started this
recording, I consulted the D&D
group chat and she she sent methis.
She said, honestly, the hardestpart is coming up with
everything from scratch and justhoping it'll come together in
the end, Because she's writingthis over the course of months,
Like that's why I usually haveto take a month to get all the
good shit done, Like there's alot that goes into it.
(40:15):
And you, she said, uh, ifsomething sucks when you look
back at it, like you're writing, you just change it.
Andrew (40:22):
Right, absolutely.
Fable (40:25):
And something she said
about that also is that it
really helped her outside of D&D.
She's gotten better at um, youknow, creative writing, world
building and creating art whilebeing fun and not like a job,
not like art class we have toget it done.
So it's really helped herdevelop her skills outside of
D&D.
Andrew (40:45):
That's super cool, very
nice, excellent.
Well, thank you for yourinsight on homebrew versus
standard D&D modules, which iswhat we're playing.
That was fun Bandelver andbelow the Shattered Obelisk.
I just like saying that I knowright.
(41:07):
So we are going to be workingon our next recipe, which we
would have normally done forthis episode.
However, since Catherine and Ihave both been under the weather
, we we skipped the cooking forthis week, so we will.
We will be baking a pie for ouractual play when James is here,
(41:28):
so okay.
Catherine (41:29):
so we're going to be
making the Heartlands Rose,
apple and Blackberry Pie, andhere's a little story with it.
As the story goes, a hungryhalfling returned from her
hillside stroll with a heavybasket of crisp rose apples and
plump blackberries.
In typical indecisive halflingfashion, she couldn't decide
(41:50):
which to fill her pie with, soshe chose both, and thus this
legendary halfling dessert piewas born A thick handmade crust
and a flaky buttery top blanket.
A tart and tasty rose applenearly any apple suffices,
season pending of course andblackberry filling with spiced
ground accents.
(42:11):
Some halflings even dust theircrust with a white cheddar that
melts for a unique flavor.
But all of them agree that itwould be a sin to serve this
without a scoop of freshlywhipped sweet cream.
So this is this.
Andrew (42:25):
this, this this recipe
sounds interesting, because why
I?
This is not the first time I'veheard people putting cheese
like cheddar cheese on cheddarcheese on an apple pie is a
whole.
Catherine (42:37):
thing.
Yeah, yeah.
Andrew (42:38):
I mean, I, I'm, I'm kind
of an apple pie purist, like no
cheese for me, but a lot ofpeople seem to dig it.
Catherine (42:46):
I think it probably
goes along the same idea of like
a sweet and savory right yeah, like cheese danishes.
Andrew (42:53):
Yeah, people people know
apples and cheese danish.
Fable (42:57):
I'm saying it's the same
concept Cheese is good.
Andrew (43:01):
Cheese is cheese is
always good Cheese and pastry.
Catherine (43:04):
Yes, that's, that's
what they're but I'm thinking
like people who dip fries andmilkshakes.
Fable (43:09):
Yeah.
Catherine (43:10):
Sweet and savory.
Andrew (43:13):
Oh I, I get, I get the
whole, the whole thing.
I've just never, I've justnever been a cheese on my apple
pie kind of person.
This is apples and blackberries.
So, who knows?
Catherine (43:23):
Well, and then we get
to make our own whipped cream
if we want.
Yeah.
Andrew (43:30):
Wonderful.
I think that's.
I think that's coverseverything that we wanted to
talk about today.
Catherine (43:35):
I think so.
Andrew (43:36):
Yeah, wonderful.
Well, thank you both forjoining me here today on legends
, loot and war, and anyone weshould give a shout out to,
fable Kia Sophia.
Fable (43:50):
Kia Sophia Matt.
Donnie, they all get good inputon what to say, so thank you
everybody for listening toanother episode.
Andrew (44:03):
We'll be back next week
with it, with an interview with
somebody, and then then what?
We'll be back in the firstfirst week of the month with the
actual play.
This will be.
This will be when you actuallyget to.
So let's, let's do a littlepreview.
So this will be when youactually get to the town of
Fandelen.
So so let's start with with DowDow.
(44:26):
What is your, what is yourreasoning for going to Fandelen
again?
Fable (44:31):
I got to meet up with
sister G sister G.
Andrew (44:34):
That's right, gary L
sister G.
Excellent.
This is the book you're lookingfor.
A book.
Fable (44:41):
I'm looking for something
.
Andrew (44:43):
You're looking for
something.
You don't know what it is.
Yeah, got it, and Zan RoseYou're.
You're looking to claim thefamily, the family property
which I believe won't be withoutdifficulty.
Oh no, there will be somedifficulty.
Catherine (45:02):
I thought there might
be.
There might be some squattersat my B and B.
Andrew (45:05):
Oh, there's definitely
some squatters at the B and B.
Catherine (45:08):
Will my goblins be
able to help with this?
Andrew (45:11):
That's a good question.
I don't know they're.
They're not very brave they're.
They're they're great at likebasic tasks like robbing people.
But we'll say, I'll see if theycan help you clear out, clear
out the manner, and you're goingto have to leave them there to
(45:34):
rebuild it.
Obviously, yes.
Catherine (45:35):
Yes, they'll also
have to work on their uniforms
and the entertainment for theevening and that there's,
there's.
Andrew (45:42):
you got so much going on
I really do.
Catherine (45:44):
There's a lot to.
Andrew (45:45):
There's a lot to be done
to be of a prior to the B and B
.
Catherine (45:48):
We have to figure out
who's going to do housekeeping.
Who's going?
Andrew (45:50):
to handle the restaurant
.
Catherine (45:52):
We have all three
meals available every day.
Fable (45:54):
Should we make a menu and
post the menu?
Catherine (45:57):
We totally should
make a menu.
Fable (45:58):
I'm making a menu right
as we okay, okay.
Andrew (46:02):
So there's a lot to be,
a lot to be going on as far as,
as far as preparing the B and B.
And I think I'm trying toremember well, iquium is going
there because he's the friend ofDundran Rockseeker, so he is,
he was the one escorting the,the wagon of supplies.
Catherine (46:21):
Right, we still have
to find him.
Right, like we got to go backand get him at some point too
Right, he's somewhere and we dowant to save him.
Andrew (46:31):
I would, I would think
you would.
So because I think, if I recallcorrectly, that Dundran and or
his maps have been brought tothe Kragmaw Castle.
Catherine (46:50):
Yeah Well, at least
the maps Right.
So that's where.
So we were going to head toFandalen to deliver stuff, right
?
While we're in Fandalen, Iassume we're going to swing by
the.
Can I say where we're going?
Where the Trissender Manor.
Andrew (47:06):
Trissender Manor.
I think we've already discussedthat on the power guy.
Catherine (47:09):
I don't know if we
have which my family is is in
ownership of, in which I want toturn into the Bumble B and B
Right.
So we're going to have to gothrough whatever we have to go
through there.
I hope Gundran's OK, because Ithink it's going to be a little
bit before we manage to get backto him.
Andrew (47:26):
I hope so too.
We'll find out.
You're being very mysterious.
Stay tuned.
Yes, indeed, all right.
So tune in to find out.
Will the party?
What will the party do whenthey get to Fandalen?
What's going to happen atTrissender Manor when Rose gets
(47:50):
there and tries to take it overand convert it into her B and B?
Catherine (47:56):
How many of the
people squatting in it can she
turn into employees?
That's right.
Andrew (48:01):
We'll we'll dial find
Sister G and what she's looking
for.
Will Iquium and the crew findGundran and figure out what's
going on?
Only time will tell.
Catherine (48:18):
How much can Iquium
lift?
Not much.
Andrew (48:23):
Very little, if anything
.
I mean again is an arm strikeis zero.
Catherine (48:32):
I think he said he
could lift like 50 pounds.
Andrew (48:34):
Yes, something like that
, yeah, yeah.
So so tune in for that episode.
It's in a couple of weeks andwe'll be back next week with
another interview.
Thank you all for listening.
Bye.
