Marleen is a leading expert in the area of animal disaster recovery and has led numerous efforts to save animals during these events. The operations include the proactive evacuation of animals in advance of danger, finding suitable interim or permanent housing and reuniting animals and their owners once the disaster has passed. Working with various organizations (e.g. Cajun Navy) and leveraging her extensive network, Marleen has been able to help thousands of animals in the path of hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires and flooding. In 2019 she was recognized with the Women in Animal Welfare Award for the State of North Carolina. She moved to Edmonton with her husband at the beginning of the pandemic and is the proud mom of two pug babies. She currently volunteers with the Edmonton Humane Society and the Humane Society of Charlotte. Before embracing her passion for volunteering, Marleen worked as a Systems librarian at Stanford University.
