Dr.C (00:01):
All right, so it is
Thursday morning.
What is today?
September 4th, September 4th.
I'm on my way to work and I'm inthe car driving.
I have the air on because I'mhaving a hot flash.
Whoa, these hot flashes.
And as you all know, I havestarted a new podcast called
(00:22):
Life Podcast.
Learn, inspire, flourish, andevolve.
And one of the things that oneof the listeners said is, you
know, this is great, but we knownothing about you.
You know you don't appear on thecover art, you're not really on
the website it just says Dr.
C but it doesn't say much; youknow you need to let people know
(00:44):
who you are and so that theycan engage with you and want to
follow youAnd ironically I was like well
the reason why I didn't do thatbecause I didn't want it to be
about me right because to me thereason why I started the
podcast was not not Not to likebig myself up.
It was really, or it is, toshare wellness information and
(01:10):
empower others to take controlof their lives and understanding
that, you know, don't beatyourself up.
Wellness is not aboutperfection.
Wellness is about investment.
Yeah, you're investing in yourfuture.
You're investing in yourlongevity and your livelihood.
You're investing in the qualityof your life.
(01:31):
So we have so much power in howwe show up.
We have so much power in what wemanifest in our own lives.
So I wanted to find a way toget it out to the masses, right?
I do a lot of presentations.
I talk to a lot of people, aworkplace wellness consultant.
(01:52):
So I work with leaders for theirburnout recovery, but also I
work with leaders so that theycan look at their organization
in a way that values employeewellness and creates an
environment that shows that theyvalue employee wellness.
So there's minimal work that youneed to do or minimal cost in
(02:13):
order to create an environmentthat's burnout free.
And, you know, a lot of peoplesay, well, that's a big claim,
you know, that you can create anenvironment that's burnout
free.
And I said, yeah, it'sdefinitely a big claim, but
doable.
As long as you know what thefactors of workplace burnout
(02:34):
are, then you can do it.
can, you can mitigate that.
You can absolutely mitigatethat and then teach your
employees how to take care ofthemselves.
So I do that a lot.
And I just decided like, how doI get that out to the masses?
It's not about making millionsof dollars by charging people to
consult and to help them withtheir burnout, but it's truly
(02:58):
about helping people.
So When I think about my ownwellness journey, man, I'm
telling you, I'm still working.
Every day.
Every day, I am still working, being positive, having a growth
mindset, intentionally settingup my day so that I can see the
(03:22):
positives, the blessings, andall the resources that I have
available to me in order to havethe best day possible, right?
So I was working with a CEO forburnout recovery and one morning
I Well, we had a sessionscheduled for like nine o'clock.
(03:44):
And one of the things we hadbeen working on is her doing her
morning affirmations, likereally intentionally setting the
tone of her day.
And so when she checked in atnine o'clock, you know, we were
on Zoom and she just didn't looklike herself.
Something seemed off.
And so, you know, we're goingthrough the yada yada, you know,
(04:05):
kind of looking at some actionitems and going through that.
Of course, you know, we had herniceties.
How you doing?
the morning, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Oh my God.
And then we got into thebusiness of it.
And, um, She was, I had askedher a question on a policy that
they were working on at herorganization.
(04:28):
And she seemed really frustratedin trying to answer the
question.
And I just paused and I didn'trespond right away.
So there was some silence andshe said, what's wrong?
And I said, well, I actually was going to
ask you that question.
You seem a little off thismorning.
And she kind of put her headdown in shame and she said, I
(04:51):
didn't do my morningaffirmations and I just feel
completely off.
And I said, that's wonderful.
Oh my God, I'm so happy to hearthat.
And she was, she put her headup because I think she thought
that I was going to be like, shame, shame, you know.
And I was like, that's amazing.
That's great.
And she said, what?
(05:12):
What do you mean that'samazing?
And I said, well, if you feeloff, that means you have gained
some benefits from your morningaffirmations.
That's amazing.
That's a great thing becausenow you realize, right, the
impact.
And she just, her shoulders, you know, straightened up and
(05:32):
her, puffed her chest out, herchin high.
And she said, you know what?
You're right.
She goes, and thank you so muchfor not shaming me.
I said, oh, honey, I'm notgoing to shame you.
I forget my morningaffirmations sometimes too,
sometimes on purpose because I'min a funky mood and I don't
want to get out of it, right?
(05:52):
I want to sit in it.
And so, yeah, this is whatwellness is all about.
It's not about perfection.
It's about an intentionalinvestment.
So we had a good laugh.
And then I said to her, youknow, would you like to do your
morning affirmations now?
Yeah.
And, you know, we could do themtogether.
(06:14):
And she was like, oh, I havenever done my morning
affirmations with anyone.
I said, yeah, it's acollaborative, you know,
activity you could do with yourspouse or your children.
And so she was like, oh, wow.
Okay.
Why didn't you tell me thisbefore?
So we went through a processwhere I asked her four questions
(06:35):
and she asked me the fourquestions.
And so we did our morningaffirmations.
Now, It was an amazing moment, right?
Amazing moment of like anepiphany, an aha moment that she
had where she realized that shehad been doing her morning
affirmations probably for aboutthree months now.
(06:56):
And it hadn't been consistentin the way she was doing it,
meaning some mornings she did itin her head while taking a
shower.
Some mornings she actuallywrote it out in a journal.
Some mornings she did it on theway to work.
But she...
Always did something.
And this morning she had it.
(07:16):
She was in a hurry.
We later realized she was in afunky mood, right?
And she just didn't do it.
So I tell you this story toreally amplify the message of
wellness is not aboutperfection.
Wellness is about investment,an intentional daily investment.
(07:41):
Now that looks differentdepending on who you are, where
you are, what your opportunitiesare throughout the day or in
the morning.
But be intentional.
Start with one small step.
Write down what you're gratefulfor.
(08:01):
I have realized in my coachingthat A micro step can have such
a huge impact.
And if you listen to the veryfirst podcast episode, Small
Steps, it really walks youthrough all eight dimensions of
wellness and then walks youthrough a quick micro step
(08:26):
activity at the end of theepisode.
Expressing gratitude is aimmune booster, all right?
Extending gratitude helps yousee the good.
It helps train your brain topoint out all the blessings and
all the great opportunities youmay have in front of you, around
(08:49):
you, accessible to you.
So start with one small step.
What are you grateful for?
I'll tell you what I'm gratefulfor.
I'm grateful for theopportunity to be able to drive,
be able to take myself whereverI need to go.
I'm grateful that I have a carthat can get me there.
But one of the things I do knowis even if I didn't have a car,
(09:09):
I know that I would be able toget to wherever I need to get
to.
Not because I got it like that, but because I could take the
bus.
I could get an Uber or Lyft.
I could also call on my socialnetwork.
And we're going to be having asession on the importance of
having a strong social networkbecause that all is an immune
(09:32):
fighting, immune boostingsystem, right?
It's an investment in your ownlongevity, in your own
livelihood, having a strongsocial network.
So stop saying you don't likepeople.
Stop saying you don't needfriends because that is not
true.
The science says that we do needthat connection.
All right.
(09:52):
I've talked enough thismorning.
This is in response to alistener that's, I just want to
know a little bit more aboutyou.
And I don't know if Inecessarily did that with this,
but I do know that I'll be doingmore of these on my way to work
in the morning.
Just kind of some thoughts, random thoughts in my head.
And yeah, let's get it.
(10:14):
Have a great day.
Set your intention for today.
Today is a fantastic day.
It won't be, don't say it willbe.
Claim it, set it, right?
I'm not going going to saytoday will be a fantastic day
because then I'm leaving it upto it might be no today is a
fantastic day everything isgoing to work out in my favor I
(10:40):
am highly blessed and I haveeverything I need to get through
today that's itThat's my intention that I'm
setting for today.
I have everything I need to getthrough today.
Not worried about tomorrow.
I'm not worried about nextweek.
Present time.
I have everything I need to getthrough today.
(11:02):
Today is a fantastic day.
Until next time.
