Lachlan Stuart (00:00):
What could your
life look like if you truly had
no limitations?
It's a very interestingquestion to think about and one
that I want you to dive into inthis episode.
Today, we're going to explorehow you can become the best
version of yourself in 2025.
December is the best time, inmy opinion, for starting a year
fresh, to review the year that'sbeen and get clear on what you
(00:22):
want the year to look like andset those standards so you can
have the most actionable, orintentionally actionable,
positive year ahead.
My name is Lachlan Steart.
Let's dive into the episode.
Welcome back to man that CanWith Lachy Stewart.
Today, we're going to dive intohow to become the best version
of yourself as we get to the endof 2024,.
(00:44):
It's the month of December whereI personally spend a lot of
time thinking about howsuccessful the year was, and I
have my idea or, I guess, mystandards around what a
successful year is, and I usethe benchmarks of whether I hit
certain goals or I achievedcertain outcomes to help me look
back and go okay, was this agreat year or could it be
(01:05):
improved upon?
It's really important to thinkabout, or I believe every year
can be improved upon because wegain so much experience and so
much feedback from one year.
We should aim to build uponthat and we should use the
feedback.
So if you really wanted to sayis next year going to be the
better year, of course it is.
I ask myself every year how canI be a better husband, how can
(01:26):
I earn more money?
How can I become healthier?
How can I have more adventures?
How can I have more fun?
You may have certain areas ofyour life or certain questions
that you want to ask yourself.
That will allow you to getclear and identify what's truly
important to you.
Now, there is no right or wrongin what that looks like,
because your life is completelyunique.
So, when you think about thequestion of how to become the
(01:48):
best version of yourself, thereare so many frameworks and I'm
going to give you a frameworktoday, a very simple framework
that if you implement it, you'llbe able to start working
towards it.
Because there are so manyframeworks, though, it can be
overwhelming.
So we do want to look forsimplicity.
We also want to keep it uniqueto you.
(02:08):
Far too many people are tryingto fit into a mold that
society's created for us aroundone specific definition of
success.
If you were like me, thatdefinition meant that you needed
a lot of money to be successfuland you needed to have a great
career title.
What I've since learned is thatthere are so many other things
to me that make or definesuccess for me.
Is that there are so many otherthings to me that make or
define success for me.
I want to, and even now workingtowards running 58 marathons in
(02:32):
58 days across all 50 states ofAmerica and all eight states
and territories of Australia.
That, to me, is success.
Putting that together, raisingfunds, having the adventure,
bringing friends along with methat is a really big part of
what a successful 2025 will looklike for me, because I want
that experience For you.
It may be having your firstchild.
It may be launching yourbusiness.
It may be ticking off a healthgoal.
Whatever it is, it's completelyokay because it must motivate
(02:54):
you, not only externally, meaning you achieve something,
but internally.
It must help you grow, and athing that will happen when you
work towards a better version ofyourself who you are right now,
as you're listening to thispodcast episode, won't be the
same version of yourself thatwill be achieving those goals,
and that is okay, because youhave to grow, you have to face
your fears, you have to try newthings, you have to fail.
(03:15):
You have to laugh about it all, because so much of it isn't
serious.
I was on a run this morning withmy nephew my nephew's 11.
When we finished the run I wasthrowing the football with him
and I.
People walking past and they'reactually a mate of mine's
parents that I hadn't seen forabout a decade.
Funnily enough, their dad,glenn.
When I was talking to him he'slike mate.
I haven't seen you since I waspulling that car.
(03:37):
You crashed out of a ditchBecause I rolled the car almost
15 years ago into a ditch andhit a tree and he owned a tow
truck company or he had a towtruck at the time.
So he was able to pull me outof that and we were just talking
about how fast life goes andwhat the important moments are.
As they were talking sorry, after they were talking, I was
walking away thinking it'sinteresting the seasons of life
(03:57):
that we go through.
Obviously, when we're young, wehave no responsibilities.
Everything's play and adventure.
As we move into our teen andadolescent years, we want to
make a name for ourself.
It's about building ourcharacter.
It's about creating, I guess, security and a home base for
ourself, which is probably theage that I'm in now, and then
(04:19):
after that it's the family, andthen after that it's all about
community and all aboutconnection.
That's what I want to talkabout, not next week, but the
following week around why it isso challenging to maintain
friendships throughout life, andI'm going to share tips that I
personally am implementing, andit's working well to keep great
friendships within my life.
But back on track, so, whenwe're looking at how to become
the best version of yourself, itstarts with you, right,
listening to this, the bestversion is you, so here's the
(04:42):
three pillars that I would lookat.
Firstly is you need to definewhat the best version of
yourself looks like.
Now, it's very easy to beoverwhelmed by that question,
and it's very easy to jump thegun and think, 10 years down the
track, to think about the endgoal, which is cool.
Think about that.
The key, though, is to thinkabout what you want and who you
(05:04):
want to become, and strip itback a bit to go over the next
12 months or 12 weeks Ipersonally do 12 weeks, which is
what we do in our Strongman ofValue Academy in the game plan,
but over the next 12 weeks, becoming the best version of
myself looks like.
Whatever that answer looks likefor you, it could mean, once
again, depending on the season,it could mean you're increasing
(05:26):
your income and your business by$1,000 a week.
It could mean you're droppingfive kilos.
It could mean you're going onmore date nights.
But what does that look likefor you?
Because once you achieve thatgoal, the next quarter or the
next year, you build on top ofthat, and that's all we do in
the academy.
We help people achieve suchincredible results, but we break
(05:47):
it down, so they're constantlybuilding, brick by brick, around
what has to happen next inorder to become the best version
of yourself, because who youare in this moment is the
current best version of yourself, but it can always get better.
As I said at the start of this, you've got feedback, years of
feedback.
You can use that feedback tolearn how you want to grow or
(06:07):
which areas you want to grow, what you need to do, which takes
me to key point two.
You want to grow, or whichareas you want to grow, what you
need to do, which takes me tokey point two identify key
actions.
What are the key actions thatare going to help you achieve
the defined best version ofyourself?
What are those things that youneed to do?
Not all of them, but the keyones, the ones that if you were
to do them and only them, theywould have the largest
(06:27):
improvement on you achievingthat outcome.
So we've got define number onedefine the best version of
yourself and, whether that'sover, give yourself a timeframe.
I think goal setting is perfectfor this.
It gives you that timeframe towork towards, so 12 weeks, 12
months.
I personally and you'vedefinitely heard me talk about
this I used to talk about 10year vision, five year vision,
(06:48):
and I think that's important, because it does shape direction.
What I've learned over the lastdecade, though, is things
change so much, and who I am haschanged so much, that what I
was working towards isn't asimportant to me as it once was.
I don't hold those outcomes astightly or, as I guess, strongly
in my hand as I would a 12-weekgoal, because a 12-week goal is
(07:10):
something that is far enoughaway that you can achieve it,
but it's also close enough thatit still has that urgency, and
you can change it if you realizethat you don't like it okay,
which is a very important thing, because a lot of men that I've
worked with really don't likemaking decisions, because they
are fearful of making the wrongones, and the only way you're
going to really figure out ifit's right or wrong is by doing
(07:34):
it.
I want you to understand thisand this is something that I
guess I really understood and itsunk in in 2015 is that every
action has an opposite reaction.
So what do I mean by that?
Let's say, for 2025, you definethe best version of yourself and
let's say, quarter one, thedefinition is that you want to
(07:55):
improve your communication.
Actually, I'm going to usemyself.
So quarter one of 2025, I amwanting to do something that no
one has ever done before.
I want to challenge myselfmentally, my mental resilience.
I want to explore in a way thatno one's ever explored and I
want to spend quality time withfriends.
Now that decision for quarterone has opposite reactions.
(08:19):
So, while I'm working towardsone, the adventure and
experiences.
Two, I'm challenging my mentalresilience.
Three, I'm hanging out withfriends.
Some of the opposite reactionsare is I'm spending 70 days away
from my wife.
That's challenging.
I'm not working as okay and I'mnot having that home base that
(08:39):
gives me peace and security andsafety.
Essentially so, theunderstanding that every
decision has an oppositereaction, or every action has a
reaction, means you can preparefor what's to come.
Now you can't be fully preparedbecause there's always going to
be things that pop up that areout of your control.
If you're mindful of things, you can prepare for them.
(09:00):
So things that I've had to getclear on is I've had to work out
how and have conversations withmy wife around how she feels
about me going away Not only mysafety, but time apart.
How are we going to communicate?
What kind of communicationwould she like?
Facetimes daily, certain things?
We have to put rules aroundthat and standards, because I
don't want any of us gettingupset or frustrated and putting
(09:22):
tension or stress or, sorry, more tension or more stress on
the relationship than itprobably already will.
The next thing will obviously befrom a work perspective.
I've finished up with nearlyall my one-to-one clients.
I am keeping a few that I knowI'll be able to manage the time
with, and then we've got ouracademy.
I know that there are going tobe days and moments where I'm
(09:44):
tired and I'm fatigued, but Ihave systemized what it takes to
achieve outcomes for peoplethat I will be able to do that,
so work.
While it won't be growingfingers crossed, it won't be
declining Best version ofyourself.
I want you to think about thatnow.
What does that look like?
What does that feel like?
What does that feel like?
How does it sound?
(10:07):
What do the people around yousound like If you were to look
ahead and look back at the endof 2025, what have you achieved?
Who have you met?
There are so many questionsthat you can ask yourself, and
the more time you spend thinkingabout this now, especially the
older you get, the morepotential answers you can have,
the better it's going to be forplanning for 2025.
I want to give you a couplemore questions, so here's what
(10:29):
I'll leave you with and this isa very short.
This is a very sharp episodethis week.
One what do I truly want toachieve in 2025 and why?
Number two what daily habits orroutines will support this
vision?
What's one thing that I canstop doing that's holding me
back?
It's not spoken about enough, but it's very important to
actually stop doing things Ifyour calendar and your time is
(10:52):
so poor, or you just are alwaysbusy, but you don't feel like
you're making the progress.
Stop doing things, don't lookfor solutions.
Remove things that will bringyou the solution.
So definitely start there withthat.
And finally, how do I want tofeel on December 31st 2025?
There's some things to thinkabout.
(11:12):
Gentlemen.
I've got a huge year ahead andI've got the next two weeks to
really dive into these questionsand think about that, but I
really would hope that this isgoing to be a great moment and
time of reflection to thinkabout for you what that best
2025 can look like.
Who you need to become, who youwant to become.
(11:33):
If you had a great year, youcan still build on that.
If you had a shocking year, youcan definitely build on that.
It doesn't matter what positionyou're in, how you're feeling
about life.
You can always grow and growthis going to provide you so much
opportunity.
You're going to meet so manynew people and, looking back,
you don't know what positionyou're going to be in.
I think about the support thatwe've had for the 58 marathons
(11:58):
and I pinch myself to think thatwe have so many incredible
brands with so much credibilitythat are standing behind us.
And it's not because this is myfirst challenge.
I have been building myrelationships.
I've been building myself, I'vebeen building my credibility
over the last decade, for thismoment, and so, while some
(12:19):
people may go, how'd you do thatin 12 or seven months, since
we've been planning this, it'smore so.
What did the previous 10 yearslook like?
My name is Lachlan Stewart.
As always, do something todayto be better for tomorrow.
