What Is The Holy Spirit, And Should You Be Afraid Of It?

The Holy Spirit is part of the trinity, which means it is part of three persons in one: the Father (God), the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. Every believer possesses the Holy Spirit in them.

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:19 NASB)

The Holy Spirit  transforms people into the likeness of Christ by empowering people to share His moral character. The Holy Spirit gives people the power needed in order to be able to become transformed.

Other Names

The Holy Spirit is also referred to in the Bible as The Spirit of God, the Holy Ghost, Comforter, Helper, Counselor, Advocate, the Spirit of Christ, and the Spirit of Truth among other names.

A Friend, not an Enemy
The Holy Spirit empowers, convicts, and is a helping friend to all believers, those who have accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior. We cannot transform into the likeness and image of Christ on our own power. Will-power is no power compared to Holy Spirit power.

Afraid
Only those who are unbelievers and who are unwilling to accept Christ have reason to fear the Holy Spirit. Unbelievers do not possess the Holy Spirit. Those who do not possess the Holy Spirit are condemned to eternity in Hell.

Truth

To learn about the Holy Spirit, a person must first accept the scripture, the Holy Bible, as the inerrant word and truth of God. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16 ESV)

  • If You or Someone You Know Is Not a Christian: If you feel a stirring or prompting in your heart that you have not felt before or maybe have ignored before, it could be God asking you to accept his Son as your Lord and Savior. If you reject the prompting of the Holy Spirit, you remove yourself from the only force (the power of the Holy Spirit) that can lead you to repentance and restoration to God.
    • Because there is no second chance to accept Christ if you die before you accept Him, invite Him into your heart now, proclaim Him your Lord and Savior, and ask forgiveness of your sins. It’s the most significant decision that you can make about where you are going to spend eternity.
