Speaker 1 (00:08):
Hello and welcome to your new favorite podcast,
pocket Full Mojo, where you'reyou and I'm Steph, and we tune
in here to tap into some mojo.
Each and every episode you hearis made with love and good
intention to share with you somedelicious nuggets of

(00:29):
inspiration and insights, withsome wit and wisdom, to help you
stay connected to your verybest mojo.
In today's episode, we'll diginto today's mantra, then dive
into a topic that's more thanjust bubble baths and manicures.

(00:52):
I'm talking about not justself-care, I'm talking about
mindful self-care.
What's the difference and whyit matters?
This is one topic that you'regoing to want to stick around
for.
So let's tap into that mojomagic that brought us together
and get started.
Okay, so, as usual, this is thepart of the podcast where I dig

(01:17):
into my affirmation app and wepick one mantra at the random
and I get to sound off about it.
These are just going to be mythoughts and hopefully some
thought starters for you, as youcan take this mantra and carry
it with you all day, all week.
You can repeat it, journalabout it, meditate on it and

(01:37):
really develop your ownrelationship with it, which is
the point, after all.
So here we go.
Today's mantra is drumroll,please.
I am learning to take bettercare of my body.
Work Okay, this is a good one.
Okay, because we all havebodies check and we all have an

(01:58):
ongoing relationship with ourbodies.
That is super complex and tiesthe physical with the emotional
and the mental, so let's sitwith it for a minute and break
it down.
I am learning to take bettercare of my body.
Yeah, we are learning, becauseour body is in constant flux and

(02:19):
being in a constant state oflearning allows us to flex and
adapt and create a responsive, loving relationship with our
bodies.
And if we're not happy with ourrelationship with our bodies,
I'm happy to announce that itdoesn't have to stay that way,
because I am learning to takebetter care of my body.

(02:39):
We can sometimes feel like weshould be able to just like
flick a switch and just do theright thing for our body, and
it's obvious and my brain knowswhat to do, so why can't I just
do it?
But when we focus on just beingbetter than yesterday, we can
stop focusing on things likeperfect and flawless and just

(03:00):
embrace and love the progress wemake, no matter how big or
small.
I am learning to take bettercare of my body.
Oh, this is so good.
So the more we love our body asit turns out, the better we
treat it and we treat peoplethat we love really well, and

(03:21):
when we love our body, we treatit better.
It's really as simple as thatand, trust me, it takes a lot of
unlearning to get to that place.
But what I do know is that whenwe honor our body, we are
honoring ourselves and upgradingthe quality of our life,
because this little meat vesselthat we've got it's our greatest
gift and, quite frankly, it'skind of an amazing miracle, and

(03:44):
the more we really tune intothat, it feels so good to treat
it that way.
I am learning to take bettercare of my body.
Yes, ugh, part of that learningreally means that, while I can
get better, I still won't beperfect, and that's OK.

(04:04):
That's OK.
If we are constantly learning,we are constantly growing and
the things that held us back arenow in the rear view mirror
because we are focused onlistening to our body and
developing a relationship withour body that not only serves us
but elevates us.
I am learning to take bettercare of my body.

(04:28):
Ugh, my body, my rules, and itis so important to listen within
, to know what better carereally means.
I can't be here to tell youwhat that is, but I know that
you know the answer to that andwhile there is no shortage of
people today ready to tell uswhat that looks like, we can
certainly listen to them forideas, but you'll know what the

(04:51):
right thing is when you reallylook inside and feel what
resonates with you.
I am learning to take bettercare of my body.
I invite you to carry thisaround with you this week and,
as you observe the relationshipthat you have with your body
observing with love and withoutjudgment of your fine self find

(05:11):
room in those thoughts to repeatthis mantra I am learning to
take better care of my body.
Whatever that means to you, youare only competing against
yourself, and if you treatyourself just 1% better every
day, if math is right, then in100 days you will be treating
yourself 100% better.

(05:32):
Doesn't this sound amazing?
Like for me, if I wanted to eatmy feelings, which is 100%
something that I do.
I just remind myself I amlearning to take care of my body
and I turn those feelings intoa journaling session, or I go
for a walk, and then maybe I eatsome potato chips as a reward,

(05:53):
but I'm not going to be a goodperson.
I'm going to be a reward, butthis time maybe I don't eat the
entire bag of potato chips, see, because I'm what?
Learning how to take bettercare of my body, see, not
perfect care, that's too muchpressure and, quite frankly,
it's unrealistic.
But better, sure, I can dobetter.

(06:15):
Ok, thanks.
And with that, it's time to diginto our main topic today, which
is unveiling the magic ofmindful self-care, where
manicures and bubble baths arejust the tip of the iceberg.
So let's be real Treatingourselves to a bubble bath or a
fresh manicure is undeniablyfabulous.

(06:38):
Now, having said that, it'simportant to note how true
self-care is about going beyondthe surface.
It's about nurturing our minds, bodies and spirits in a way
that's intentional and mindfuland oh so magical.
Once you're able to tap intowhat you truly need, that's
where the magic happens, andyou'll immediately feel the

(07:00):
shift and the difference betweena spa day and mindful self-care
.
It's intention.
It's about listening, reallylistening to your needs.
And when was the last time youdid that?
For like more than five seconds, like that's okay.

(07:21):
With the power of now, you canstart fresh and you can start to
build this new mindset.
The key is being able to builda meaningful relationship with
yourself so that you're able toscratch what really itches.
It's a practice that can neverbe checked off the to-do list
and that's kind of the best part.
And sure, a spontaneous spa daycan definitely lift your

(07:47):
spirits, but the magic ofmindful self-care really lies in
the lasting impact.
By being intentional, you'reinvesting in a practice that
nurtures resilience and allowsyou to set up for some long-term
well-being.
No one will have theprescription for this other than
you, and there's plenty ofplaces that you can go and

(08:07):
things that you can do for aquick fix.
But this isn't that.
Being mindful means notlistening to the noise of what
the world is telling you youneed.
It's about taking a beat andlistening to where your body,
mind and soul are at and takingit from there.
You don't have to have all theanswers, but it's taking the

(08:30):
time to go inside, ask thequestion and trust yourself and
showing yourself that love, grace and empathy for all you've
done to get to where you are.
Being mindful when it comes toself-care is a pivot for most

(08:50):
people.
Like when we think self-care,there's plenty of cliches that
come to mind, and so just don'tfeel limited by those options.
Only you know what reallycharges your batteries and fills
your cup.
Doing something for you onpurpose, with the intention of
elevating your well-being canfeel maybe a little

(09:12):
self-indulgent, but you need toturn the volume down on that
voice because it's a trick.
You're doing the right thing byputting yourself and your
wellness first.
So let's get to the how-tomagic of mindful self-care.
Start with intentions.
Mindful self-care begins withsetting clear intentions.

(09:33):
So ask yourself, what do Itruly need today?
This check-in is informativeand powerful.
You got to really listen, whether it's a moment of calm, a
burst of energy or a gentlerecharge.
Set the stage with mindfulintention, Breathing Something

(09:54):
we do automatically, but there'sso much power in there Never to
be underestimated.
Simply taking a few momentsevery day to engage in mindful
breathing exercises can be worthfive trips to the spot.
Inhale positivity, exhale thebullshit.
It's a simple, gettransformative practice that

(10:14):
will ground you in the presentmoment and make all the stress
and noise just simply melt away.
Stepping outside and lettingmother nature work her wonders,
with a brisk walk or justfeeling the grass beneath your
feet or basking in the sunlightit can do wonders for your
well-being, especially duringthe winter months when there's

(10:35):
less sunlight.
You can also take time tounplug and recharge.
So it's the digital age andit's really easy to get lost in
the constant buzz andnotifications and messages and
emails.
If you have a smartphone, youknow what I'm talking about.
So you're in charge.

(10:55):
Set time aside, just unplug,whether it's a tech-free hour
before bed or a weekend.
Digital detox your mind, yournervous system, will thank you.
And, lastly, nourish thattemple.
We talked about taking greatcare of our body, and mindful

(11:15):
self-care involves giving yourbody the love it deserves.
Whipping up a nutritious mealor just taking the time to savor
each bite and relish in thegoodness that nourishes you from
the inside out.
The more you love your body, the more you'll treat it with
love, and vice versa the moreyou treat it with love, the more
you'll love your body.
See how that works.

(11:36):
But, steph, I ain't got no timefor that.
Sure you do.
Let's launch self-care to thetop of your priority list,
because here's the real T You'rethe master of your own mojo.
It's true, self-care is not aluxury, it is a necessity.
It's time to reclaim it andmake it a non-negotiable part of

(11:58):
your routine.
Now listen, I'm the first toadmit that I used to wait until
I needed it, and boy did it everfeel good, right?
But the key to this is toincorporate it regularly into
your routine so that cup nevergets to empty, like my dad who
considers a quarter tank of gasan empty tank of gas, you know,

(12:21):
just never really hovers aroundthat danger zone.
But this is the part where youmay feel like it's
self-indulgent, because that'swhat we've been told.
The reality is, we need toredefine where that line is for
need.
My mom used to say if you don'ttake time to be well, take time
to be sick.
And if those are the options, you can find me at the spa,

(12:46):
because life has a tendency tothrow storms our way Work
deadlines, family commitments, unexpected curveballs, and then
suddenly self-care takes a backseat and we find ourselves
caught in a whirlwind andeveryday chaos that sound
familiar.
Here's a trick I've been doingfor the last couple of years and
it has truly changed the gamein terms of my commitment to

(13:08):
self-care.
Here we go I got eightstep-by-step tricks to get
self-care back into your lifeand your mojo back on track.
So step number one sit yourselfdown and make a list of all the
things that you considerself-care, and this can be
anything from reading or goingon a walk or spa days and
manicures, and the list can beas long as you want.

(13:31):
Make sure the list includesthings that you may want to put
off, like going to the dentistor your doctor checkup, haircuts
, that kind of thing.
But don't be afraid to splurgeand put things on there that you
maybe haven't done but wantedto do.
Step number two break the yeardown into seasons Winter, spring

(13:51):
, summer, fall.
You know the seasons.
Step number three how manytimes a year do you want to do
each of those things?
Like, do you want two haircutsa year?
Do you have bangs and need togo every six weeks?
What's your deal?
You get to decide.
So step number four what areyou going to do monthly?
Step number five what are yougoing to do every season?

(14:12):
Step number six what are yougoing to do every week?
Maybe it's that bubble bathextravaganza or some quiet time?
And step number seven what canyou do daily?
Is it meditate, go for a walk, read some of that book with a
nice cup of tea?
Which takes us to step numbereight schedule it Seriously.

(14:32):
Take out your agenda and call upthe doctor, then call the
stylist.
Book yourself this time.
Do it commit.
Write it in your agenda in pennon-negotiable.
Make the plan work.
The plan Doing all this inadvance is, at this point, a
sure bet.
You know you're not going towake up in three months and be

(14:53):
like, oh no, I have a hairappointment.
I have to go feel glamorous andpampered for a couple hours.
Trust, it will feel great andyou will thank your past self
for taking care of your now self.
And if you feel weird writingdown, read a book in your agenda
.
Guess what?
Nobody cares.
Reminding your busy self whatyour happy self really needs is

(15:14):
super important and sometimesthe struggle, but this is a
skill that's really worthmastering.
Now, if you have champagnetaste and a Kool-Aid budget,
that's cool.
That's not going to stop us.
Here are a few ideas on how totake care of yourself and your
pocketbook.
Wellness is not for the rich.
And don't think for a secondthat the more you spend, the

(15:37):
better you'll feel.
That's nonsense.
Again, it's about listening toyourself and digging into what
you really need.
The price tag does not matter.
Here's a few quick ideas onsome low rent activities that
will leave you feeling like amillion bucks.
For example, diy spa days.
You can transform your bathroominto a sanctuary.

(16:00):
Few nice candles, some soothingmusic, some DIY face masks.
All this can be done within thecomfort of your own home, with
that pure bliss, without the spaprice tag.
And please, stop waiting to usethe good candles or the nice
bubble bath.
Use it now.

(16:20):
There is no better time andtaking this time to truly show
your body and mind some peaceand love.
It's remarkably recharging whenit's done with intention and
not a gun to your head becauseyou should, or with nothing in
the tank because you've spentall your energy already.
This really allows you to tapinto the nurturing act of taking

(16:41):
care of your body.
Use all the lotions, all thecreams.
Show every cell in your bodyhow much you appreciate and
respect all that it does for you.
Collect some mindful moments.
Incorporate short mindfulbreaks into your day, and this
could be a five minutemeditation or a breathing

(17:02):
session or a mindful strollinstead of a doom scroll.
Mental investments, big return.
And there are some excellentYouTube meditations for
beginners.
If you're new to the game andif you're not into the spiritual
aspect of meditation.
It can be a totally agnosticpractice.
Just keep it about breathingand reconnecting with yourself.

(17:24):
That is universal.
There's a brand calledHeadspace and it's an excellent
place to start if you've neverdone any meditation, and they
really break it down in a reallylogical and practical way.
I highly recommend it.
Or get yourself some budgetfriendly treats.
Self care does not have tobreak the bank.

(17:44):
Look for affordable ways totreat yourself.
Maybe it's a new cozy, blanketor a good book or even a
homemade treat.
Someone once said I wish Ididn't have to go out and spend
$100 on dinner just to catch upwith my friends.
Why can't we just run errandsand hang out while we catch up?
And the answer is you can Gofor it.

(18:06):
There are no rules when itcomes to self care.
You get to decide what fillsyour cup and there is no direct
correlation to how much youspend versus how much you reap
as a reward.
Simply catching up whilepicking up the dry cleaning with
a bestie or watching the kidsplay soccer can be just as
fulfilling when done withintention.

(18:29):
Plan your week around a techfree Tuesday.
Designate one day a week todisconnect from screens.
Use that time to reconnect withyourself and people who love.
Your messages will be therewhen you're done.
Your memes will be there whenyou're done, and what you're
doing is you're also sending amessage to the world that you
are not available 24 seven andthat you control the access.

(18:52):
Or you could do some gratitudejournaling you can end each day
by just dotting down threethings that you're grateful for.
It's a really simple practicethat shifts your focus to the
positive aspects of your life, and this might be tricky at
first, but the key is to keepgoing.
What I do is I set a timer formyself and I see how many things

(19:16):
I can come up with that aregreat in my life in these five
minutes.
Now, when you do it, just don'tedit yourself, because there
are no wrong answers, but you'llbe amazed at how easy this
becomes the more that youpractice.
And if you need a cute journal, check my show notes.
I got what you need.
So if you're ready to go fromready to radiant by means of

(19:38):
self care, thank you for beinghere.
And as we kick this off, remember that you hold the wand
to all the magic that livesinside of self care.
Embrace the magic within you.
Really listen to yourself sothat you can scratch that itch.
Only you know what it takes.
And remember good begets good.
Feeling good feels good.

(19:59):
Keep that close, remember that.
And with that, mojarrinos, Iwill leave you to take on the
world as your very best self.

much for being here, yougorgeous human.
