Do you want to start something new (project/hobby/language/etc.), but are scared to begin because you don't want to suck?

This 12 min episode reminds us that it's ok to not be good at something, especially when we're new.

We have to develop our skills over time. Be ok with sucking. And keep showing up, developing our backbone, doing the work, and focusing on our incremental progress.

In this 12 min episode, I share a quote from Ira Glass, producer and host of This American Life which begins, "Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone had told me." (You'll have to listen to the episode to get the full quote. Trust me, it's a good one.)

Key takeaways:

  • When beginning a new habit, start so small that you can't fail.
  • In order to get good at something, we have to keep at it, and do it a lot.
  • Focus on "progress, not perfection" - Marie Forleo
  • "Comparison is the thief of joy." - Theodore Roosevelt
