Scott Hack (00:45):
Hey, everybody.
Thanks for joining the Real
Estate Distilled Podcast. I'mone of your hosts, Scott Hack.
I'm here today with my wife, LizHack, our cohost. Hi, Liz.
Liz Hack (00:53):
Hey, everybody.
Scott Hack (00:54):
So today is our
first episode of the Real Estate
Distilled Podcast, our inauguralepisode. And we're excited today
to tell you a little bit of thebackground story of what Real
Estate Distilled is, what wehope to accomplish with this
podcast, and who we are as yourhosts. However, if you're not
interested in that, you can goahead and skip to the next
(01:15):
couple episodes. We've alreadyprepared episode 23 with our
guest speakers, Antonio Cousinand Patrick Keller. So we're
gonna go ahead and have thoseready for you.
So if you're not interested inwho we are or why we're doing
this, go ahead and skip to thoseepisodes.
Liz Hack (01:33):
Yeah. Both those guys
spoke at our, 2024 conference, I
believe in a breakout. Right?
Scott Hack (01:41):
Absolutely. Mhmm. So
bringing up conference, so what
is Real Estate Distilled theConference list?
Liz Hack (01:48):
Real Estate Distilled
the Conference. Gosh. We started
it 8 years ago. It's 2024 rightnow. We're about to head into
2025.
And we, we we've had 7conferences over the last 8
years, COVID as it did witheverything, threw a wrench in
our plans. So, the conferencethough is a national real estate
(02:14):
residential real estateconference focusing on
marketing, lead generation. Andwhat I like to tell people,
Scott, it's it's all about thethings that they don't teach you
in class. You know, you gottayou gotta learn about the ethics
and you gotta learn about thecontracts and you gotta learn
about, you know, how to be agood real estate agent, and how
(02:35):
to, like, pay your dues and youre and o and all that. But they
don't teach you in thoseclasses, when you're getting
your license, how to run abusiness or how to find leads or
how to recruit or, you know, howto have systems in place so that
you can be successful and notjust run everywhere with your
(02:57):
hair on fire.
And so I feel like over the last8 years, that's what we've
brought to the community timeand time again. Things that are
super, easy to implement intoyour business, that really focus
on developing clear and easystrategies that win.
Scott Hack (03:17):
Yeah. 100%. So going
back to the conference, like Liz
said, in 2018 when we hosted ourfirst first conference, I I went
to Liz and I asked her if shewould help me put together a
conference, and we put together, you know, from our backgrounds,
we have different skill sets. And I've concentrated on the
content and the speakers, andLiz will tell you a little bit
(03:40):
about her background. And she'sfocused mostly on our
sponsorship program and thelogistics of our venues and the
caters and things like that.
But we really started RealEstate Distilled to fill a need.
So at the time, and I still feellike today, the independent
broker market and the smallerbrokerages, in general weren't
being served with an option thatwas affordable. So you'll notice
(04:03):
that, if you go to our realestate distilled.com website
that our value is reallyimportant to us in what we're
doing. So we've got a a very lowticket cost. We host in
Louisville, Kentucky, which isour home, but also gives us the
opportunity to have hotel roomsthat are closer to a $150
instead of 300 or 3.50 like insome other top tier cities.
(04:25):
And we're able to put together atop tier event without breaking
somebody's bank. So, again, Isaid that, Liz and I are
married. We've got 2 kids, a 11year old and an 8 year old at
the time of this recording. AndI have a residential real estate
focused brokerage called FinishLine Realty, and it's me and
(04:47):
about 11 agents. We help peoplein the Metro Louisville area as
well as at a vacation lake, inCentral Kentucky called No Lynn.
And, I've been in the businessnow for 15 or 16 years, Liz.
Liz Hack (05:02):
It's a long time.
Scott Hack (05:03):
Well, you know.
Liz Hack (05:05):
Yeah. No. I'm married
to this guy over here. We've
been married now 13 years.
Scott Hack (05:13):
We're not doing a
math test right now.
Liz Hack (05:14):
Okay. Super. And
before we, before I even met
Scott, I was working in thenonprofit industry, as a
fundraising consultant, and Iworked with, you know, gosh,
small to medium sized nonprofitsthat needed help understanding
(05:35):
how to raise money. And that'swhat we helped them do, You
know, everything from doingevents to raising capital
dollars to everything inbetween. And so I love that, but
during COVID, things changed.
And so I got my real estatelicense at the behest of my
(05:56):
broker, Scott Hack at FinishLine Realty. And, I I enjoyed
that for a season. However, I Ifound another passion of mine
with, with the N2 company andworking with affluent neighbors
in the city of Louisville. Andso now I am the publisher owner
(06:16):
of a publication that goes tothe one of the most affluent
communities in the city ofLouisville, and it is all about
the folks that live there. Andwe actually have, several in the
community, and I just loveconnecting community and
building that in lots ofdifferent ways, which is why
(06:38):
when Scott asked me, hey, Liz.
I wanna start this conference inin, 2018. I was able to feel
feel good like we could do it.We could actually put this
together. Scott has won has hadwonderful contacts all across
the country from, otherconferences that he has been a
(07:03):
part of, and I was able becauseof my background, was able to
feel comfortable meeting withhotels and meeting with with
conference space and creating asponsorship program that would
invite folk folks who want to bea part of a community like ours
to, to be in the room with, withagents who want to learn about
(07:28):
building a business and workingon their business, at the
conference. So, that with thoseexperiences, Real Estate
Distilled was born, basically.
Scott Hack (07:44):
Yeah. So, I mean,
we've we've been asked this now
for a while. So I always tellpeople that, although we started
Real Estate Distilled in in2018, we're we're every every
year, we, you know, we wannamake it a new experience. We
wanna make it better, and wedon't necessarily wanna make it
bigger. We are a boutiqueconference, so we're always
trying to focus on therelationships that are taking
(08:06):
place and being built in thecommunity and inside that room.
Liz Hack (08:09):
Yeah. We love that
part of
Scott Hack (08:10):
it. Yeah.
Liz Hack (08:10):
That's really the most
important part for us.
Scott Hack (08:13):
And after this time,
coming up on our our 7th event,
there's so many people that, arealmost like family that now are
now part of the community. Wehave a Facebook group, on that
that's part of our community aswell, the Real Estate Distilled
Facebook group where we're ableto keep the conversation going
throughout the year, sharethings. When people come to the
(08:33):
conference and they meetsomeone, they're learning things
from people from the stage, butthey also now have the
opportunity to, call up thatperson they're sitting next to
on a random Thursday and askthem a question. So that to me,
that's one of the the biggestvalues that we're able to bring
is putting all those peopletogether and then learning from
each other. So, what is it that, that that quote list that we'd
(08:54):
like to talk about about arising tide?
Liz Hack (08:56):
With a rising tide,
all ships will sail.
Scott Hack (08:59):
Yeah. So we she and
I have a little joke about that.
So we say the same thing that wejust say it a little bit
differently. But, we're gonnawrap this up and then jump right
into our first official episodewith one of our guests. So I
wanna thank you for coming onthis journey with us.
Liz Hack (09:15):
Yeah. Thanks so much
for being here with us.
Scott Hack (09:17):
Yeah. So we're
really we're really excited to,
to bring the Real EstateDistilled podcast to the
community and introduce the RealEstate Distilled brand and
community to a new audience. Sowe hope
Liz Hack (09:26):
Don't forget about our
newsletter.
Scott Hack (09:28):

consistent. So we're working tobring highproof to people on a
monthly basis as well. So thisis just another channel and
avenue that we can sharedistilled information, with with
