emotions. I'm your host, Andy Grant.
Today we're exploring a powerfulyet often overlooked tool from
mental and emotional Wellness, essential oils.
My guest is Corrine El Kazaza and an international best
selling author, essential oils coach and cards deck creator.

(00:22):
Corrine blends ancient wisdom, modern science, and the magic of
scent to help people shift theirmood, boost creativity, and
connect more deeply with themselves and the divine.
If you've ever wondered whether a better state of mind could
just be a smell away, this episode is for you.
Let's do it. Hello Karine, and welcome to
REAL Men Feel. Hi Andy.

(00:43):
Thanks for having me. I should say that yeah, we've
known each other for many years and been in different programs
and groups and adventures and went well, you live in Florida
now, used to live in Massachusetts and you were like
always willing to be like whenever I had something new and
my energy bag of tricks you would like.
Yeah, I'll try that. So I always appreciated that.

(01:03):
But you're here to talk about essential oils and mental
health. That's.
Right. So let's start at the start and
tell me what like what are essential oils?
So essential oils come from different parts of the plant and
depending on what part of the plant they're from, they have
different functions. So like a citrus oil is really,

(01:24):
think about it orange, like it raises its face to the sun and
that's what it does. It raises your mood.
If you have something that comesfrom the roots of a plant, like
a tree, it's going to ground you.
So exactly what it does in the plant it does for your body, and
it also brings homeostasis to the body so it knows where to

(01:44):
put you exactly. So is that true like any if I
take the root of any plant it'llground me?
Or is it just specific plants have have their best abilities?
Yeah, I would say it's stacked my specific plants.
OK. All right.
And and how did you begin working with with essential
oils? I met someone who was working
with oils and I really, I reallyliked her energy and I really

(02:07):
liked what she had to say. And I have always really liked
natural solutions. So I started working with her
and I was in the gym, right? And I was not happy with my
results. And so we did a little weight
management with essential oils and I started using some Yarrow
palm, which is not an oil for weight loss.

(02:28):
OK, It's a, it's an oil for balancing hormones.
And sometimes when you balance your hormones, especially for
women, the result is weight loss.
And that's what happened for me.But you know me, I've been in
the gym for a long time. And when I put that oil in me or
on me, I immediately felt it like digesting my food, like it
was ripping through my food likeit had when I was in my 20s.

(02:49):
Like I knew that feeling. And I was like I this works.
And So what? What is aromatherapy?
Is that the same as essential oils or is it somehow different?
So aromatherapy used as essential oils.
So basically you're inhaling theoil, smelling the oil, and it
raises your mood. So you can smell it right out of
the bottle. You can put it on a cotton ball

(03:11):
and smell it. You can rub it on your hands and
smell it, or you can use a diffuser.
So that puts it in the air. So basically you're putting
water in essential oil in a machine and it's going to make
vapor in the air. So that's a really good way to
get stream of oil that's consistent and constant, so that
keeps you in that energy. Is there one ideal way to use

(03:33):
essential oils or is it different for everybody and
every purpose? It depends on the person and
what you want to do. I mean really every oil has an
emotional component. So if you know what the
emotional component is and what it can do that you can get into
literally any state that you want to in the moment.
So there's a good guide called sensual emotions.

(03:55):
I think they're on the 13th edition now.
And it will tell you every oil, what the oil is for, right?
And so that's so it comes with this handy dandy, what I call
the wheel of emotions. And it's, it's literally a wheel
and it goes around like it has peaceful and then it has like 8
different flavors of peaceful. So if you want to feel some kind

(04:17):
of peaceful, you look at that and you go, oh, balance.
OK, I want to feel balance today.
So I'm going to use some balanceoil.
Essential oils are all actually made.
It's not like you you go to the the local chemist and he concoct
something. Well, now there's there's a
question, right? So the oils that I use are
doTerra and they're very pure and very tested.

(04:39):
And in fact, we're the only company that will let you
actually go and look at the label and see that they've all
been tested. They're tested by a third party.
So those aren't really the only oils I use.
And you could go to Walmart, right?
You're not going to get the samequality.
And some of those could be flammable even.
And you know, essential oils should not be flammable.
They're safe. One of the first things that you

(05:01):
learn about essential oils is that they're volatile, which
means they change states quickly.
That means basically that they evaporate, right?
So when you take one or you put it on your body, on your skin,
it's the largest organ of your body or you can adjust it even.
It's going to evaporate. So it's not going to build up in
your body. It's not.
You're not going to have side effects.

(05:22):
That's why you can't dose a lot because there are no side
effects. And how do essential oils
influence our emotions and mood so quickly?
So the nose is an extension of the limbic brain.
The limbic brain manages memory, emotions and behavior.

(05:43):
So think about like if you are walking down the street and you
smell apple pie and all of a sudden you're instantly
transported to your grandmother's kitchen when
you're 8 years old and she bakedyou an apple pie.
That's why because that aroma elicited that emotion and that
memory. And so that's the way essential
oils were too. Like if you smell lavender, it's

(06:03):
really relaxing when you smell it and it's just like a big
breath of and it just goes rightto your neurology and, and you
can feel it it it's so fenced. My sense of smell is like the
weakest of all my senses and so does that matter?
Do I? If I can't smell and like label
something, does it? Does it matter for my use of
this? It will.

(06:23):
It will do its job anyway. So how can we use essential oils
to manage stress, anxiety, overwhelm?
There aren't specific oils for that.
So the first one I would talk about is Deep Blue.
That is the oil of surrender, a pain that could be mental,

(06:44):
emotional, physical pain. So if someone is resisting
painful emotions, this will helpthem get through that and help
them transform those emotions. So that's really a good place to
start. Plus for men especially, I
thought that the gateway oil, because it really works.
Like usually the way that men stumble onto this is that

(07:07):
they're sore from the gym or that, you know, they're just
sore and they put this on their muscles and it works.
And so then they they are like, oh, you know, this stuff really
works. So then they're open to trying
other things. Is there a plant called Deep
Blue or is this sort of a mix ofother things?
Yeah. So there's a blend of different
oils. It it has canned for peppermint,

(07:30):
so it's really minty and cool when you put it on.
It also has winter green. It has osmanthus, which is the
oil of gentleness. So it it's a different blend as
proprietary to the tariff, Yeah.Oh, so I was going to ask, you
know, I think most guys here essential oils and might just
tune out, but so you come at them for the the physical

(07:51):
benefit, you attach it to the gym and that's kind of the hook.
There's so many ways to use it. Does the effect vary depending
on the way you use it? B Like I'm the queen of ruler
balls. So you put the oil in a roller
ball and there are different places to use it on your body
for different effects. Like if you got to use it.

(08:11):
Typically I will use it from my wrist to the crook of my elbow
because that's the place. For some reason it raises your
mood the fastest. Also, it's easy to smell right?
If you want protection, the areaaround your belly button, if you
want protection, or if you need stronger boundaries.
You want to speak your truth. It's your throat chakra.
You want your intuition, your third eye.

(08:33):
You want your your heartfelt wisdom, your heart chakra.
And then if there isn't foil that you do not care for the
smell of like, I'll tell you helipress something that's a
little earthy. So is Spike Nard, which is the
oil of gratitude. So it's a great oil to use.
But if you don't like the smell of it, you can put it on the
soles of your feet or you can have someone run it up and down

(08:56):
your spine And the rolling ball, which is really actually, those
two ways are really good for kids too.
If you want to get some oil on kids and they're not really
grooving on the smell of it. I found that interesting that
you cannot appreciate the smell of it but still find ways to get
benefit from that that oil. Yeah.
And then actually I find like those two oils I just mentioned,

(09:19):
over time, like you get to like the smell of it.
You can you just get used to it.And that's another thing, like
when you first start to use these oils, they're all natural
and we are so used to synthetic everything, right, that they're
going to smell weird. And then after a while you get
used to it and you're like, oh, this smells really good.
And then when you smell something synthetic, you're

(09:41):
like, no, no, you can really tell the difference.
Is there any sort of safety concerns of an oil interacting
with the medicine or something else someone's putting on their
skin? Anything like that?
Use birds if you're using a blood thinner.
But really there are very, very few contraindications for oils

(10:01):
that, like I said, they're, they're safe and natural and
they evaporate. So they're not really, they're
not too many contraindications. I will say if you use a citrus
oil, it's photosensitive, like here in Florida, you don't want
to put on a citrus oil and go out in the sun.
You could get burnt, you know. So just a couple things to be
aware of. There are some fat oils like

(10:23):
cinnamon and peppermint that youdon't want to use like around
your eyes because they could brown you.
And and 01 interesting thing is the charge essential oil makes
it sound like there's fat in it,right?
There's not, There's no fat in it.
If you take like frankincense orlavender and put it on you, it's

(10:44):
not going to stain your clothes. It's not going to stain your
linens or your sheets. It's when you mix it with a
carrier oil, like fractionated coconut oil is what's typically
used and fractionated, it's justa fancy way to say they took out
the smell of the coconut. But then once you mix the oil
with the FCO fractionated coconut oil, there's fat in it.
So yeah, it's going to stain your clothes and it's going to

(11:05):
stain your sheets. So you need to be aware of that.
And how do you use oils? How do you use oils during your
your writing and creative work? To use Clary sage a lot, it's
the oil of clear clarity and vision.
So I use that when I'm stuck in a clock tangle.
So I will inhale that. But before I start it's usually

(11:27):
sandalwood, which is really goodfor meditation.
And what is it's the oil of devotion.
But it it's also really good, like if you have someone has
PTSD and they have images that keep coming up in their head,
they can use this and get rid ofthose images.
Like I've had a friend who a family dog attacked one of her

(11:47):
kids, went right for its throat and everyone was fine.
But she kept seeing that image and it was horrified.
So she started using sample woodand it really worked and she
didn't have those visions anymore.
Very. Cool.
So essential lawyers aren't justfor kind of to avoid things or
deal with negative emotions, they can actually enhance things

(12:09):
like your your creativity, your clarity.
Yeah, I mean, like I said, any kind of mood that you want to
get into, you can get into with oils and and it's like we
already said, it's instant and you could do it anywhere.
You know, on the soccer field, at school, at work.
I have in fact left a corporate environment and gone into the
ladies room and smelt some lavender and came back to the

(12:30):
meeting in a much better mood. So you really can do it
anywhere. And you, you talked about how it
it evaporates quickly. Now does that mean you really
got to be careful opening a bottle or it would just
evaporate if you left it open orthings like that?
Well. No, you should keep it open, but
you're not evaporate that quickly.
And are essential oils and aromatherapy sort of a new

(12:51):
endeavour or has this been around for a while?
So Abby, since you know me, you know I love Egypt, right?
So the, the ancient Egyptians were using aromatherapy way back
when because they knew that oilshave an effect on the body
physically and emotionally. So they used them, you know, in

(13:11):
in bombs for the face and, and rituals and ceremonies.
And so it took till I think of the term aroma Derby was coined
in the 1990s. So it took modern science that
long to catch up with ancient wisdom.
And did you get into essential oils first or Egyptology?

(13:33):
Egyptology. OK, so that was your gateway
culture into essential oils? Yeah, I mean, I remember being
at the perfumery in Egypt. It was.
It was pretty cool. Do you help people match oils to
to moods and to goals and and things they're dealing with?
Yeah, I mean, someone can come to me for a little overview and

(13:57):
we could talk about what's goingon for them.
And I can recommend some things that it's definitely something
that I do a little Wellness check with people and see what's
going on. And is there anything that
you've tried that beyond the smell, not liking it, but did
it? Did you have a reaction?
They're like, oh, I'm not using that again.
Or could would something be like, did it give you so much of

(14:17):
something that was more than youwanted, say?
That didn't say that once I, I had a I'm I'm very, very, very
allergic to cats. And I went to a place where I
didn't know there was a cat and I came out of there and I was
like, what is going on with me? And my friend was like, well,
there were two cats there. I was like, oh, and I
immediately took what's called trius.
It's peppermint, lavender and lemon.

(14:39):
And I took it and it was just gone.
So wow it. Didn't make the cats disappear,
it made your symptoms disappear.Well, since this is real men
feel, what is one thing that youwish more men knew?
The effects of essential oils ontheir emotions.
Yeah, I mean, really to be in a good mood, to be in a happy

(15:00):
place. I mean, I'm always sit in front
of my desk right now, which is where I write, and I have a full
array of oils in front of me, sothey really do work.
And if if you have put essentialoils on yourself, is the smell
so strong that other people willnotice it as well?

(15:21):
Yes, yeah, they're going to notice.
It all right, so guys will have to be such a fan of how some
what something does for them that they're willing to smell
like that out in public. Well, well, so yeah, but like,
balance oil is an A grounding oil and it has spruce in it.
Like the first oil is spruce. So it smells like men's Cologne.

(15:42):
Like I actually love it. And it's something that grounds
you and makes you connect to people.
Like it's a great oil for emotional balance.
And that's, I think that's what most people would like,
especially if a guy can't name what he's feeling or dealing
with. Balance is an easy thing to to
go after then. Yeah.

(16:03):
I mean, that's a great starting point.
We also have an oil called Serenity that's really good for
before bed. And the combination of those
Balance and Serenity and equal parts is they call it liquid
Xanax because it really calms you down.
So that's a good place to start too.
Nice Karine, what's the best wayfor people to learn more about

really dive into that world. But your enthusiasm for it might
have me rekindle and go start smelling things.
Yeah. I definitely recommend it.
