Have you ever witnessed a love so selfless, it moved you to the core? My latest musings tackle the profound essence of Christian love, contrasting it with our modern-day culture's emphasis on self-interest. Through a series of Bible stories and personal reflections, I, Rick, delve into the radical love Jesus demonstrated—actions purely driven by compassion without seeking anything in return. From feeding the 5,000 to healing the sick, Jesus set a precedent for us all. But it's not just about grand gestures; it's about letting love infuse every action of our daily lives, as urged by 1 Corinthians 16:14, a scripture that has deeply resonated with me.

This episode brings you into the heart of what it means to practice such love in real-life scenarios. I'll share a touching story of a friend's mother whose commitment to her aging parent exemplifies selfless devotion. Her story is one of many that challenge us to look beyond our convenience to truly embody this Christ-like love. Together, let's embark on a journey to discover how we can better serve others with a compassionate heart and be a living testament to the scripture that commands us to let all that we do be done in love. So, tune in, and join me as we seek to transform our approach to love, one act of kindness at a time.

me, so I'm going to startpreparing some little short
things to just throw out duringthe week, just to give you
something else to listen to,something else to contemplate,
something else to study.
Nothing big, nothing deepShould be fairly short.
I hope you enjoy it.

(00:51):
What exactly is Christian love?
We hear about it a lot.
We reside in a culture that'sexcessively self-centered.
Everybody's striving to gainsomething from somebody else,
climbing the corporate ladder.
People only seem to be willingto reciprocate if it benefits
them, and this way of life isnot in line with the teachings

(01:18):
of Jesus, who exemplified theopposite of that.
Jesus displayed compassiontoward every single person he
encountered, regardless of thepersonal cost.
If you read the Bible, you'llsee lots of instances where
Jesus well like he fed a hungrycrowd of 5,000 out of compassion
, he multiplied the food tosustain them.

(01:38):
In another story, he was tryingto get some solitude, but he
ended up reaching out incompassion to heal people who
were ill among a crowd of peoplethat were pursuing him.
Jesus always acted out of purelove, without any hidden agenda.

(01:59):
In 1 Corinthians 16, 14, it sayslet all that you do be done in
love.
I've contemplated this versefor a long time, and although I
consider myself prettyproficient in loving other
people, I've always wondered howI could improve.
Loving others comeseffortlessly for me.

(02:22):
I'm not patting myself on theback, I'm just one of those
people that can show love.
But when I reflect on it Irealize that I kind of tend to
do it when it's convenient forme.
So on January 1st of this year,a close friend of mine

(02:42):
experienced the loss of his96-year-old grandmother.
This woman had lived a long, beautiful life and through this
event God made that firstCorinthians verse come alive.
For me, it's one thing to saythat we should do everything
with love, but it's anotherthing to actually practice it.

(03:05):
You see, for the past six yearsmy friend's mother devoted
herself to caring for her ownmother's needs.
She made multiple trips everyday to the nursing home to make
sure that her mom was fed andwarm and taken care of.
She sacrificed her ownhappiness to ensure that her

(03:26):
mother could live the remainderof her life in peace and comfort
.
This is love.
It exemplifies the kind of lovethat considers the needs of
others before your own.
And on the night before thepassing of my buddy's grandma,
his mother, who was 72 years oldat the time, chose to go sleep

(03:52):
on the floor of the nursing homebeside her mother so that her
mom wouldn't be alone in thefinal moments of her life.
Now that's just selfless, andthat's a selfless display of
love that has really impacted mylife Because it brings that 1
Corinthians scripture 1Corinthians 16, 14, that brings

(04:15):
that to life.
I'm challenged by that to setaside my own needs, my own
desires.
Set aside my own needs, my owndesires and the convenience that
I use in order to love peoplein the same manner that my
friend's mom displayed.
And I pray that, both in mylife and in yours, as we

(04:37):
continue to operate in theSpirit, that we can let every
action be driven by love.
We can let every action bedriven by love.
We have to praise God forgiving us Jesus as an example of
how to exhibit unconditionallove in a selfless, christ-like

(04:58):
manner, and I pray that God willplace us in more situations
where we can express this kindof love.
