As Black History Month 2024 gets under way in Southern California, the Riverside Philharmonic will present two special pieces in a performance on February 24: Negro Folk Symphony, by the late African American composer William Dawson, and Concerto Cinematique, by Los Angeles composer and violinist Chris Woods. In this episode of SoCalVoices, Chris shares his perspective on a range of topics including his journey with the violin, how classical and jazz music inform his creative expression, the importance of practicing, and his experience composing Concerto Cinematique.
