Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to another episode of the Somatic
Healing Podcast.
I'm Rae, I'm a breathworkfacilitator and somatic coach,
and if you are new here, welcome, and if you aren't new here,
welcome back.
I'm so glad that you're tuningin for today's episode.
So for today's episode, Ireally wanted to dive into this

(00:21):
topic of navigating differentidentity changes, transitions,
shifts in our life, because weare moving from the end of
summer into the fall and thistransition can shake things up
for so many of us, and so Ifigured there's, you know, no
better time to chat it up onthis topic than right now.

(00:44):
So I'm going to share with youthese three main ideas to help
you navigate any change, and, yeah, I'm looking forward to
today's episode.
I hope you enjoy it.
So I wanted to kick things offby talking about changes that
can happen with our identity, and this can happen when you are
, you know, maybe starting a newjob, a new relationship, maybe

(01:05):
a new responsibility, likebecoming a mother or becoming a
student, or becoming something.
So an identity change.
I think it's important todifferentiate, because they do
happen seasonally, yes, andother times they can sort of
just happen unexpectedly.
So I love doing identity workbecause there is this moment of

(01:29):
uncertainty, like things arechanging, things are shifting
and this can be unsettling tothe you know really at like the
core of who we are, depending onexactly what the big change is,
and that can cause a lot ofquestions, consciously or
subconsciously, like with thischange, who am I?

(01:50):
And why?
I love this kind of idea somuch is that it's an opportunity
for us really to connect withour core values, and that's
something that I've talked abouton the podcast quite a bit.
There's a few different corevalue exercises that you can
look up and take on yourself.
But by doing a core valuesexercise or just checking in

(02:14):
with what your personal valuesmight be, they help you to
really re-ground into what isimportant to you, into the being
of who you are.
And when something is changingin our life, it can feel really
scary when that gets shaken up,and the truth is that you are
always, you know, an evolvingperson.

(02:37):
Like you will always bechanging, and I know, if you're
here listening to this podcast, that means that you're ambitious
, you're driven, you have avision, which means that you'll
absolutely be going throughvarious transformations and
identity shifts, and so all ofthis is to say that these
changes can be superdysregulating at times, and when

(02:59):
you are able to have clarityaround what your core values are
and lean on them, revisit them, check in on what they might be
for you, you have a strongfoundation of who you are and
these will guide you right backto that place of embodiment and
self-knowing.
So if this season feels, orthis transition feels,

(03:22):
unsettling for you, check inwith those core values.
Allow it to support you ingrounding in again to who you
are.
And identity changes are a bitdifferent than transitions.
Transitions are really like anevent or something, that a big
change that is happening thatwill have like a before and an

(03:44):
after.
So, for example, you're likeending one job and you're
starting another.
Or you had a lot of time off inthe summer teachers and now
you're going back to school andmaybe you have kids that are
going back to school.
So these are like littleexamples of like tangible
transitions that we allexperience, these little micro
transitions all throughout theyear, but in particular around

(04:08):
this time of year.
These are some of like thecommon ones and these can be
unsettling because changesinvolved.
It could be big changes, itcould be small changes.
So how can we move through thetransition and regulate, manage,
cope with any anxiety or fearthat it brings up.
And it's also funny enougharound this time of year that I

(04:32):
see a big increase in clientinquiries, bookings and also a
lot of client endings.
And it makes perfect sensebecause it's around this time of
year.
Things are getting reallyshaken up.
It's a big transition for somany people and it makes sense
that you would be like lookingat okay, what am I putting my

(04:53):
energy into in my life and whatwould feel most in alignment for
me.
And so three things that I wouldlove to offer you as support
through this transition.
The first is name it, to tameit.
So what is actually coming upfor you around the season that's
changing?
Are you feeling excited?

(05:14):
Are you feeling excited?
Are you feeling nervous?
Are you feeling sad?
Are you feeling everything allof the above?
But when you have a chance toname what is exactly coming up
for you, that will help you toknow more about what you might
need.
And this might take some timeIf you are, you know, highly
aware.

(05:34):
There might even be some likelayers here.
So, you know, reflect and kindof see what might be here for
you right now and then.
The second tool I would love toshare with you is reflect on all
of the times that you have gonethrough transitions and changes
and you have come out the otherside feeling stronger, feeling

(05:56):
better, and this has happened so, so, so many times.
Like you are so resilient andso often we go through these
changes and we either kind oflike brace ourselves through the
whole thing or we don't giveourselves enough credit for,
maybe, the challenges that weovercame.
So give yourself a moment toreflect and see that you've been

(06:20):
here before.
Most likely you have gonethrough a change or a transition
in the past and you have comeout the other side feeling
stronger.
And then the third tool that Iwould love to share with you is
check in with your sense ofsafety.
So give yourself the time topause, connect with the elements
outside.

(06:41):
Sometimes, with thesetransitions, we want to hold
onto things tightly for whatthey are incredible summer or
something, or maybe we didn'tget to do everything that we had
hoped and now we have more onour plate in the fall, you know,
whatever it might be.
But give yourself a few minutesto breathe and create space for

(07:02):
you to find a sense of safety.
That way you can do these twopractices that I just named.
So name it to tame it.
Reflect on all of the timesthat you've been resilient and
made it through a transition andgive yourself that time and
space, because that will helpyou to feel so much more
grounded, so much more safe.
You'll be able to, you know, flow through the changes rather

(07:24):
than kind of like brace yourselfthrough it.
And if you are feeling likethis change or this transition
or this identity shift isfeeling more of like an opening
for you, like something isending, and you're like excited,
you're like I am so ready torock for this next season
opportunity to check in withyour vision.

(07:46):
So what would be your intentionfor the next few months?
What might be your intentionfor the rest of the year?
Are there some qualities ofthis season that you would love
to bring with you into the nextseason?
Like, for example, for me, Ijust love the flow of summer.
Like some days I feel likethings are just flowing so

(08:07):
nicely.
The other day my friend had afriend in town from Um.
My friend had a friend in townfrom London and so she wanted to
come down to the beach to hangout with me because he was
flying out from JFK, which islike one of the airports close
to me.
So it was amazing.
Like I had this was likesporadic too.

(08:27):
I had a few clients in themorning.
She came down around like 12,15.
I went to the beach until liketwo 30 with them, so I got to
like hang out with my friends inthe middle of the morning.
She came down around like 12,15.
I went to the beach until like2.30 with them, so I got to like
hang out with my friends in themiddle of the day.
And then I had clients fromlike 3.30 to 7.
And I was just like this islike the coolest day ever, like

(08:47):
I would like.
It was just so random and itwas so fun that I got to like
hang out with one of my bestfriends.
Like work in the morning, workin the evening.
I was like this is like anideal day Go to the beach.
It was just, it was magic.
So I personally would love tocarry some of that flow and some
of that magic with me into thisnext season.

(09:08):
No idea what it'll look like, but I would love to.
But it's one thing I would loveto carry with me, and I'm also
checking in with my vision forlike what I want the end of this
year to look like, like what Iwant these next few months to
look like, and I think one thingthat I can just name right off
the top of my head is that Iwant to make sure that I plan a

(09:29):
weekend to go hiking.
That is something that isimportant to me, and I'm toying
around with the idea of goinghiking for my birthday.
That would be like thisupcoming month, september 25th,
so that would make me happy andthat's simple, like that's.
I guess that's like a smallthing, but you know, I can get
caught in the worries toosometimes, or like thinking

(09:49):
super big or grand about avision, and so sometimes
simplicity just feels likereally good to me right now.
So that is something that I'mlooking forward to and something
that I'm hoping to bring withme into the fall.
And so a quick recap of some ofthe things that we chatted about
today.
We talked about navigatingidentity, core values.
We talked about moving throughdifferent transitions and a few

(10:11):
tools that you can use to helpyou with that transition that's
happening.
Revisiting your vision, checking in with what you would
like the back half or really thelast few months of this year to
look like, which is so crazy.
But yeah, that's what we havefor today's episode.
So, as always, thank you somuch for tuning in to today's

(10:33):
