A Still Standing Podcast Interview with guest, Morgan Rakay, MA, LPC, BC-DMT, who is a licensed professional counselor and board certified dance/movement therapist. Morgan maintains her own private practice, Movement Therapy Arts, and in her clinical work, she has focused on providing meaningful therapy through utilizing the mind-body connection, movement as a source of growth and communication, and holistic care.

In the third edition of Still Standing Together's, "Foundations in Mental Health" Episode Series, Morgan offers perspective and mood-boosting benefits for mental health improvement through telehealth and dance movement therapy.  During a time when she was lonely and disconnected herself, a time when she relied on movement for her own illness experience -- to not hate her body when it was sick, when it was betrayed her, and when she just wanted to get out of it -- dance helped her to stay in it and develop ways to release tension and communicate during times it was hard to talk about what she was feeling.

As part of her work with medically high-risk clients, Morgan has integrated telehealth into her work since 2016 and now consults with counseling organizations regarding best practices in teletherapy, such as MyCocun, Online and Tele-Counseling for Teens and Young Adults.

In this episode, you'll hear from Morgan and Daniela on...

-Changing your mental state and mindset through steps to building a comfort with using dance & movement therapy for observation and intervention for change.

-How to maintain movement to help boost mental health, feel less alone, lonely, disconnected or sad.

-The benefits of Telehealth and Telecounseling.

-Loneliness vs Stillness: making sense of having to fill the void.

...and so much more.

Morgan has a significant history in providing online and telehealth counseling to individuals and families.  She continues to dance professionally as a member of DanceEthos Performance Company, while maintaining an active role in research, education, and advocacy for dance/movement therapy within the mental health field, and works with the Cancer Support Community Greater Philadelphia, MyCocun Online Counseling, Drexel University, and serving as a board member for the PA Chapter of the American Dance Therapy Association.
