Kelli (00:00):
Stupid, stupid, or whatever the infernal thing is.

Chris (00:05):
This is the Supercalifragilistic awesome
Disney Podcast where each weekwe discuss, you guessed it,
Disney

Kelli (00:11):
things you know, things you don't know and things you
didn't know you needed to know.
Well,

Chris (00:16):
as Walt would say, the way to get started is to quit
talking and begin doing.

Kelli (00:19):
Oh, wait, wait, I can do this. Please stand clear of the
doors poor football mantengac'est la Hado de las puertas

Chris (00:27):
welcome aboard Disney fam. Hello other Disney fam. My
name is Chris. And I'm Kelly.
Welcome to the podcast, where

Kelli (00:37):
we are starting our best of summer series. So in this
series, we're going to be goingthrough our 10 most popular
episodes since the beginning ofthe podcast. We're going on
three years now when you believewe're in season seven.
Unbelievable. I know. So our10th most popular episode was
originally released on July theseventh of 2022. This is from

(01:00):
season five. And in thisparticular episode, I talked
about the new menu coming to theSci Fi diner, maybe not a new
menu anymore, but it was rightat the time. And you talk about
default drives that you want to

Chris (01:14):
come back up for rides that are no longer at Disney
World that I wish would comeback. Yeah. So we hope you all
enjoy it. Absolutely.

Kelli (01:23):
So shocking to everyone.
But the Sci Fi dine in theaterhas released a new menu.

Chris (01:31):
It made you very very nervous, though, whenever.
Remember, I told you that thisweek?

Kelli (01:37):
Well, so here's the thing it is I mean, it's kind of a big
deal that they released a newmenu. What I'm going to say is
they've released some new menuitems. Now you've done a
phenomenal job talking usthrough the Sci Fi dine in
theater on here, like you toldus what the role movies are. You
talked about what comes out ofthe kitchen, all that kind of
stuff. So I know we've talkedabout their menu before. So I'm

(01:58):
going to tell you the new stuff.
And then we'll talk about someof the favorites. But I'm gonna
spend most of the time on thenew items. Yeah, sure. So this
menu was released or their menuwas updated in in June, it was
just this month, just a few daysago. So as far as appetizers are
concerned, and by the way, ifyou haven't been to sci fi dine
in, it's easily one of ourfavorites. I would put it in our
top three, probably. Yeah. Andso we've done several episodes

(02:21):
on it, we absolutely adore scifi dine in. So they've got two
new or two. They're two standardappetizers are still on the
menu. They have crispy onionrings with the horseradish
dipping sauce for $11 a bigdeal. And the fried dill pickles
which can come with ranch or thedipping sauce for $12. I'm not
even a huge on hearing guy butthose are crazy good. But now

(02:42):
they've got three newappetizers. Okay, and the first
one is a spinach and artichokedip. Now this is vegan This is a
plant based item. It's a blendof spinach artichoke red
peppers, cauliflower cashewcheese Astrix on that I'm gonna
come back to it. And oat milkserved with housemade chips. Now
I got all this info from Disneyfood blog that went and did a

(03:05):
great review of it. They lovedthe spinach artichoke dip they
said it was creamy and the tastewas spot on. It wasn't too
salty. The cashew cheese I sortof have issue with I've tried it
before. Not my favorite. Buthere's what I will say I made it
as like a queso a dipping sauce.

(03:25):
And what I found was I did notlike it alone. But if I had
something really salty to dipinto it, it was great. So like a
tortilla chip dipping in reallysalty really sold it over for
me. So Disney food blog feltlike the house made chips that
were served with this were waytoo salty, interesting. And I

(03:47):
would say that's highly probablelike if you eat the chips by
themselves, but I would guessthat that is strategic with the
cashew cheese as

Chris (03:56):
I specifically called out that the the diff itself is not
very not

Kelli (04:00):
salty, right. So that's my personal opinion. I will say
I do love salt. Probably morethan most so it can't usually be
too salty for me. But this hasgood reviews as far as what the
spinach and artichoke dip tasteslike it's creamy. So I would
again challenge those of you whoare not vegan or plant based to

(04:22):
give that a go it's $13 Theyalso have the Sci Fi smoked
wings. Now these are smokedchicken wings tossed in a porter
barbecue sauce so they housemade pineapple and poppy seed
coleslaw. That sounds fantastic.
These are $15 and supposedlythey are just the bomb. They
just blow your mind and you wishyou could order multiple orders
of them for the mail andwhatnot. Like they're just

(04:45):
phenomenal. Yeah. So smokewings. The third is a black
garlotte Caesar salad. This isThis also sounds really good to
eat Romaine you love a Caesarsalad. Do petite romaine lettuce
with Grilled artichoke heartschopped apple wood smoked bacon
Shea Parmesan topped with ahousemaid black garlic caesar
dressing and serve they toastedgarlic Cristini

Chris (05:12):
the idea of a black garlic anything some for some
reason? Sounds great. Yeah, so

Kelli (05:16):
that's $11. And what I will say is, none of this is
like your typical fare that youexpect at sci fi right? You go
in there sort of expectingshakes and burgers. So I love
that they're expanding the menuto sort of step out and have
some really cool food optionsinside of sci fi. So and they
have all those appetizers thatlunch and dinner. So same with

(05:39):
the entrees, everything's thesame lunch and dinner. They've
got three new ones, but theirstandards are still in the menu,
the drive in burger that's goingto be your signature burger.
That also comes on brioche buntopped with smoked pork Bergen
bacon jam cheddar lettuce inbarbecue sauce was still not
your average burger. Oh no, no$22 Your classic American burger

(06:02):
is really a bacon cheeseburger.
And it's $20 They also have anoven roasted turkey sandwich and
they've had that which they'vehad that for a while. This is on
fresh baked multigrain croissantwith Bacon Lettuce tomatoes and
a cilantro avocado aoli for $18.

(06:23):
A Pan Seared chicken pastathey've had that. This is a
lemon butter sauce with rainbowtomatoes, onions spinach and a
toasted garlic Cristini $24 Samesituation but with salmon $25
Okay, so you can get it withwith pasta I mean with chicken
or salmon chicken is 24 Salmonis 25 and then they have the

(06:45):
Impossible Burger, which is alsocomes with grilled portobello
mushroom Kashi, mozzarella, garlic, tomato EO the nut free
pesto, lettuce and tomato. I'vehad that before $21 I have had
it before, but I'm pretty sure Ihad them give me real cheese
instead of the cashew much.

Chris (07:02):
Maybe that's why.

Kelli (07:04):
But yes, I have had that I think Disney does an amazing
job with all of the impossibleitems. So then we've gotten
three new items that are entreesone is called the feature film
burger. So they have thisfeature film burger all the time
and it's essentially whateverfeature is oh, I say the week
right so our month or what haveyou so Disney food blog had an

(07:25):
amazing feature film burger whenthey were there just this past
week. I mean that had like acrab cake crab and shrimp cake
on it. Oh interesting. They saidit was just almost too big. Like
you couldn't get a full bite ofeverything because it was so
tall. It's such a massive BurgerChallenge accepted $24 But they
had a feature film burger thatwas called the pork on pork

(07:49):
burger. Okay, that one has nowbeen made a permanent fixture.
That's one of the new items onthe menu. So this is a housemaid
pork patty topped with roastedpork belly, white sharp cheddar,
caramelized onions, cabbage slawand a housemade Carolina mustard
sauce. Oh,

Chris (08:08):
man.

Kelli (08:09):
I know. I sponsor those decisions fairly interesting.
It's 20 to 50. My understandingis the Carolina mustard sauce is
no longer available at RegalEagle Smokehouse that they took
the mustard based barbecue offthe menu. Yeah, I mean quite
some time ago. So I find itinteresting that that's that
that's on their garbage is whatI find. The other thing is the

(08:32):
grilled chicken citrus saladwhich is romaine lettuce spinach
arugula toss with rainbowtomatoes, candied pecans,
cranberries and feta cheese, topped with a grilled marinated
chicken and a housemaid citrusvinaigrette. Yeah, that sounds
delicious. $18. Yeah. So that'sit. So essentially, they took
their old feature film burger orone of the most popular feature
film burgers they had and maybea permanent fixture, a permanent

(08:54):
fixture on the menu. Okay, now,I think the desserts are really
where it's at. So they havethree standard desserts. One is
the cookie shake. So this isgoing to be like okay using
cream milkshake. But it isvegan. So it's plant based milk.
That is the only milkshakethey've got on their menu. By
the way, a little bit of ashame. I don't I don't think so.

(09:16):
I think it's fantastic. I mean,I think maybe you think it's a
shame because maybe you haven'thad a plant based milk cookies
and coconut whipped cream kindof a situation but it's good.
It's on the menu. They also havea hot fudge sundae for $8 and
some fruit salad. But the twonew things that are desserts

(09:38):
look really out of this worldand one of them is called out of
this world. They look veryspacey and different. Like you
mentioned, maybe something you'dsee on the house. See on your
right. So the first one iscalled the Red Planet and this
is a white chocolate cheesecakewith a spiced blueberry compote
on a graham cracker tart, with amatch sponge and golden candied

(10:02):
almonds for $9. Now what youmight be saying there is none of
that is red. And that isaccurate. They actually like it
looks to me like they use a redmirror glaze right over the top
of it and so it looks like a redplanet but nothing on the inside
is red. The new one the secondnew one is called out of this
world. And this is yourpineapple mousse with passion

(10:26):
fruit, cosmic squirrel, squirrel, squirrel, and a spice
lime spaceship, garnish withspace dust, and I blood orange
Cooley. Dollars. There's a lotgoing on in that it doesn't look
that complicated, but there's alot going on there. Now a couple
things This isn't new. But foryour kiddos, your appetizers our

(10:48):
garden salad or chicken noodlesoup, which I love. I love that
those are healthy appetizers forthe kiddos. And they're entrees
or beef skewers chicken stripsmac and cheese or cheeseburger.
And so that's still the same.
But so yeah, I would say it's anupdated menu. It's not a new,
it's not a new menu. It's

Chris (11:06):
new menu items. At best.

Kelli (11:08):
I love the updates. I love that they've got more plant
based options. And I love thatthey're going in a way that
really makes sci fi truly uniquefrom a culinary experience, not
just atmospheric it Sure

Chris (11:20):
sure. You know a little snack shack vibe.

Kelli (11:24):
I don't think it loses the vibe. You still get the
onion rings, you still get thefried dill pickles, you're gonna
get the burger with cheese andbacon.

Chris (11:31):
I mean, it's gonna be a jacked up burger it's gonna have
it's gonna be delightful andhave a crab cake on it or some
pork and right, it'll bedelightful. It's gonna be great.
I'm excited about our next timeat the Sci Fi dine in theater,
which is you know, we'd like itwhen they when they fake the
outside on the inside. Okay, soon the World Showcase. So I was

(11:55):
listening to another podcastrecently, just a wonderful
father daughter team at Disneyassemble podcast, Troy and Nene,
we love them. They are totallyadorbs. And you should
absolutely check out their show.
They're amazing. They werediscussing as part of their show
their hot tech show. I thinkthis this recently, that we're

(12:16):
discussing a specific ride thatno longer exists at Walt Disney
World. And it made me wonderwhat other sort of defunct no
longer existing Walt DisneyWorld attractions, what I just
really love to do again. So Igot help with this from syfy.com
and travel and leisure.com. AndI'm only going to do four really

(12:38):
in detail. And then there's athere's a bunch of others, we do
another podcast about it orwhatever. But possibly the top
two rods on my list I've done aswhole segments before. They
don't exist anymore. So go backand listen to the segments on
Body Wars, which was asimulation ride at Epcot back in
the day. And the ExtraTerrestrial alien adventure,

(13:03):
which I absolutely just wentbonkers for I loved it. But all
you folks out there got superscared I was having heart
attacks and whatnot scary. Sothey had to take it out. Um, so
So in no particular order. I'mjust going to do four rides that
I wish we could do again, inaddition to those two, in

(13:25):
addition to those two, yes. Allright, the first like I said, in
no particular order, The GreatMovie Ride.

Kelli (13:33):
Yeah, I did love Mary Poppins.

Chris (13:36):
There were more movies than just Mary Poppins. Yeah.
This is actually the rideDetroit and Mimi on Disney
assembled we're talking about intheir episode. That made me
wonder if there were otherrides. I wish took a ride again.
This This ride was perfect tome. Yeah, it you wrote through
all these wonderful Disney.
These wonderful movie scenes, not just Disney movie scenes.

(13:56):
The animatronics were great. Themusic was great. Those movies
they chose to show you in thestars. They were great. The ride
conductor took part in it rightone of the animatronics was
actually a live person, either acowboy or a gangster, they would
hijack your car. And, you know,he get his comeuppance later,

(14:19):
you know, in one of the othermovie scenes, and then they had
this wonderful montage thiswidescreen wonderful movie
montage at the very end. If youloved movies, yes. You just
totally got that that I lovemovies vibe. It felt very
Hollywood. It did. Yes, it wasgolden age of Hollywood Golden

(14:40):
Age of Hollywood. The music wasperfect. It just it just gave me
all the right fields. That guythat time that we were behind in
line didn't say a word for twoand a half hours we were in
line. The pre show of that wasbasically watching trailers from
old movies. Just do didn't Say aword for two hours. And

(15:00):
suddenly, a trailer for TheSearchers comes up and he
screams Big John. The moviesmade this apparently mute man.
screen. So is it. I love thatright? I mean, I liked the new
one. I liked runaway railway, but I just I really hated that

(15:20):
they got rid of the gravy,

Kelli (15:25):
right? Maybe Rob was good. Okay,

Chris (15:27):
so the next one if you ever read this horizons at
Epcot, do you remember horizons?
Remember horizons Horizons iswhere mission spaces today and
how is a completely differentbuilding. It was like this
pyramid shaped building. It wasa 15 minute long ride. Your ride
car was sort of like an omnimover, right? Like on a lot of

(15:48):
the other rides, we'd go throughshow scenes just like the other
rides give you a glimpse intothis idyllic vision of the
future using you know thesethese diorama type set so that
I'm atronics and whatnot, youwould go travel into space and
see Space Station BravoCentauri, or you and you would
go to a desert area called Myseverity, you'd go to an

(16:12):
underwater city called the SeaCastle research base. Then you'd
actually this was what reallyset it apart and made it
groundbreaking. You actually gotto choose which version of those
things you wanted to experiencein person, you would just press
a button on your car display.

(16:36):
And then using some well placedblinders, these blinders would
pop up between your cars, and acouple of like 70 millimeter
OMNIMAX movie screens your ridecar would take you to your
chosen destination and back soyou would either cool your car
would you know I'm using airquotes turned into an undersea
type you know two personssubmarine and you would travel

(16:58):
to this the research baseunderwater or you'd go to the
desert area that's cool on youknow in a simulation type sort
of setting. And again, 15 minutelong ride it was it was really a
pretty, pretty cool experience.
But you never read that. No,

Kelli (17:17):
I don't remember that at all. It

Chris (17:18):
was it was on that side over there where like the world
of motion or the test track istoday. Oh, next. I don't know if
this is gonna be a hot take ornot the maelstrom.

Kelli (17:32):
Really? Yeah, I wish you could write it again.

Chris (17:34):
I wish I could ride the Maelstrom again.

Kelli (17:36):
I like the Elsa Ana version. Yeah, I mean I'm a fan
of the Elsa on a version I'malso

Chris (17:41):
including the little you know promotional movie there you
would go in and right after yougot off the boat ride you go
into this little theater andthey show you a movie about
Norway. I love on an Elsa thewhole frozen gang.

Kelli (17:52):
I love it. Great job with the indoor cue there.

Chris (17:54):
They did. They did.
You're right. I you know I lovedthe movie Frozen. This ride
today is still the exact sameride just with a frozen scan. So
it's not really about the ride.
I'm not really against the IP ofDisney attractions at Epcot. But
one of the things I love aboutWorld Showcase, especially when

(18:15):
it's incorporating cast membersthat are from those cultural
regions. I love learning aboutthe cultures and the countries
in World Showcase. And Maelstromdid a wonderful job of
introducing you to sort of thethe history and lore of Norway,

(18:36):
their their Viking heritage butalso their you know, their their
vision of their own future. Ican still feel myself riding
through the area where that bigsea oil platform is and the
polar bears and it feels likeyou're literally riding through
a of you know a violent seascapein Norway in the Arctic Ocean so

(19:03):
just loved that ride andhonestly, I thought the little
promotional video to the end wasalso really really good. So I
would I would love for it plusdo we get the meat on an Elsa
right next door? Yeah, Norwaydoesn't have to all be about on
an Elsa

Kelli (19:19):
well it's not they've got the bakery

Chris (19:22):
right what's the name of that bakery?

Kelli (19:24):
Yeah, I don't know. But then they've also Creme de la

Chris (19:28):
Creme. Creme de la

Kelli (19:32):
they've also completely changed their shop inside
they're not selling a bunch ofon and Elsa stuff anymore. It is
very heavily like if you'reinterested in going for an
Arctic ski. That's true artArctic holiday. That's true.
They do some shopping.

Chris (19:46):
You're not gonna wear any of that stuff out in Florida.
Yes, that's true. Okay, so, soGreat Movie Ride horizons
maelstrom. Okay, and I thinkthis one's This is outside of
the box. Okay. The AdventuresClub at Pleasure Island this is
not this is not an attractionthis is a this is a fish is a

(20:07):
bar is what this this was aboutcan

Kelli (20:09):
feel like you're you're been in your Oh, sorry, just a
little bit

Chris (20:12):
more. I'm absolutely not this is anybody that knows the
adventurers club is out thereright now. Absol Absolutely. on
their feet in agreement.

Kelli (20:22):
I thought this was rides that are different.

Chris (20:27):
I should have said attractions and experiences. But
that's not what you said. Oh,well, that's what I'm saying
that the interest so first off,it was a pleasure Island, which
is what used to be the area thatis now really the landing at
Disney Springs. Yep. Right youcross those bridges over into

(20:49):
this area where like art Smith'sis, and that area was called was
Pleasure Island. It deserves itsown full segment to Pleasure
Island and I'm going to do it.
This was this was easily thebest of the Pleasure Island
offerings it was set in the1930s. This was a club for
explorers and adventurers tomeet up over stiff drinks and

(21:10):
share their stories of of wildtimes. It included live
performers, audio audit,animatronics and puppets,
multiple floors of walls coveredwith trophies of these exploits
of these adventurers, and youwalked out feeling like a
legitimate part of the club. Tothis day, the society of
explorers and adventurers SCA isused in backstories of

(21:35):
attractions like the JungleCruise Skipper canteen, well and
numerous attractions atrestaurants in Tokyo, Disney
Sea, Mystic Manor at Disneylandis based on SCA, it all sort of
got its start at the adventurersclub. And it was the kind of
thing where the puppets wouldreact live to whatever people

(21:55):
were doing or whatever they hadpeople doing in the audience.
Okay, it was just kind of likeyou just you went in there. You
ordered some drinks and justwaited to see what craziness
happened.

Kelli (22:05):
Okay,

Chris (22:06):
so the adventurers club, a Pleasure Island.

Kelli (22:09):
Okay. I think that definitely stretched the segue.
Absolutely

Chris (22:12):
not. Anybody that has been to the adventurers club is
100% on my side, okay. I've gotlike seven others that I just
were other notables that I cando in another segment that can

Kelli (22:25):
you can do entire segments on a whole series on
different drugs.

Chris (22:30):
Get to a whole podcast, there is a podcast on different
drives. Hey, folks, that's thisweek's show. I cannot wait to
find out. Like theseconversations we had actually
