The following is the podcast description as written by its creators: /// TELL ME A STORY: THE “TRUE” LIFE OF JAKOB STANLEY is a documentary about the life of beloved 1980s children's author Jakob Stanley, whose collections of horror short stories and poems outsold every other children’s book for almost two decades. As his mainstream popularity waned, Stanley's work, now out of print, reached cult status among a community of...
/// Episode 2 Notes: Shit. We are spending the night. | K so, we interviewed Jane. It was interesting. *We should let Jane review the full interview to let us know what she is comfortable with. BUT right as we were leaving, Jane drops the bomb on us - that I daren’t even write down for fear it will end up being bullshit - with a massive "catch" attached to it. The catch, you ask? - Yes, that's right, us spending the nig...
/// Episode 3 Notes: YES, again. | This morning Jane was several hours late, so we did not get to the camper van until way after we planned. But it still was cool as shit. There wasn't much there, but there were some folios containing a few illustrations, might be from the same guy who did his last book... a few VHS tapes.. etc. Met Jane's neighbor, he said he would try to get the camper running for us. BUT that means anoth...
/// Episode 4 Notes: Today was batshit. | First up, hungover as hell, we wake up to find the entire Homestead crawling with locals. Evidently, there was a fire that started in the woods near Jane's and the town is in panic mode. RJ and I stayed here to help out, Tolen and Chuck took supplies out to the firefighters. RJ and I tried to low-key pump Debbie and Miss Loretta (the owners of the Homestead) for any Stanley family infor...
/// Episode 5 Notes: BOO Day | Since T&C have the car and are out helping the Jane search, RJ and I are gonna hit up the now defunct Mendenhall Institute to shoot an episode of her ghost hunting show B.O.O. ... as well as try to see what Stanley info we can dig up there. Need to try to find more info on this religious sect called "The Light" or the "Light of His Word". ///END/// The views and opinions expressed ...
/// Episode 6 Notes: Where the hell is Jane?! | So, we finally all get back together, only to be taken in by the cops for questioning. SCREW THE IPHIGENIA COUNTY PD. ///END/// The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are solely those of the podcasters and participants, and do not represent the official policy or position of the Iphigenia County Police Department of Porter Township Pennsylvania or its associates.
/// Episode 7 Notes: Gayle Peyton can suck my dick. | Today was a bit rough, but we got a lot of info. (Either Jane lied or just didn't know? idk) Then followed up on some of the rumors we heard at the police station. Uh, Tolen is starting to not like what we are finding out. I was afraid of that. ///END/// The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are solely those of the podcasters and participants, and do not represen...
/// Episode 8 Notes: So, evidently I write notes now. - We went to Great Cliff's peak, hit up all the spots there, stole a death certificate, berated an old man to tears, and found Stanley's grave. ///END/// The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are solely those of the podcasters and participants, and do not represent the official policy or position of the Iphigenia County Police Department of Porter Township Pen...
/// Episode 9 Notes: Twice? Fine. - We are trapped here at the Homestead getting verbally thrashed by Whitaker, while RJ and Avery break into Stanley's mausoleum. This is as detailed as you're gonna get. ///END/// The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are solely those of the podcasters and participants, and do not represent the official policy or position of the Iphigenia County Police Department of Porter Townsh...
/// Episode 10 Notes: THX Chuck, love the team work. | BIG NEWS. Whitaker got confirmation that there IS an unpublished Stanley manuscript! We don't seem to have it in our stuff from Jane's, but it friggen exists. ///END/// The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are solely those of the podcasters and participants, and do not represent the official policy or position of the Iphigenia County Police Department of Por...

Hosted by Laura Beil (Dr. Death, Bad Batch), Sympathy Pains is a six-part series from Neon Hum Media and iHeartRadio. For 20 years, Sarah Delashmit told people around her that she had cancer, muscular dystrophy, and other illnesses. She used a wheelchair and posted selfies from a hospital bed. She told friends and coworkers she was trapped in abusive relationships, or that she was the mother of children who had died. It was all a con. Sympathy was both her great need and her powerful weapon. But unlike most scams, she didn’t want people’s money. She was after something far more valuable.
