Latest Uvalde developments: New details show that police on the scene did not know that 911 calls were being made by kids inside the classroom with the shooter. A mother who ran into the school to rescue her children has told her story to CBS News, after being warned to quiet down by Uvalde police - who have been enlisting biker gangs to help patrol the funerals of the shooting victims. Texas Senator Roland Gutierrez, whose district includes Uvalde, has expressed frustration at being left off of Lt. Governor Dan Patrick's committee of lawmakers addressing the shooting.


An ABC News profile shows that Texas U.S. Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz are among the top recipients of pro-gun campaign contributions in that body, with Cruz receiving the most at $442,000 over his career - Cornyn has taken $340,000 from pro-gun individuals and political action committees.


New details show that lawsuits filed by five APD officers regarding flawed crowd control devices and training related to the George Floyd protests have targeted the city, Mayor Steve Adler, Travis County DA Jose Garza, and a collection of social justice groups including Black Lives Matter and the Austin Justice Coalition. Meanwhile, five more protesters have filed lawsuits against the city over injuries they suffered during the protests.


Local COVID positivity rates have risen into double-digit territory - now 19%, similar to numbers seen at the beginning for the Omicron wave in early January.
