Have you ever felt the electric charge of anticipation right before the arrival of something great? That's the sensation we unpack as I, Pastor Brandon, lead you through the epic moment God's glory filled Solomon's temple, an event that paralleled the fervor of fans witnessing icons like Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson perform. This episode delves into the rich narrative of 2 Chronicles chapter 5, where Solomon's seven years of labor culminate in a divine confirmation of loyalty and faith. We're not just talking about an ancient historical event; we're connecting it to the feeling of eagerness and unity that comes when gathering for something truly momentous. Join me as we reflect on the meticulous preparations, the unity of Israel's leaders, and the sea of sacrifices that turned this biblical moment into an eternal testament of worship and celebration.

Amidst the grandeur of Solomon's story, we touch a deeply personal chord as I guide you through the transformative experience of inviting God's presence into your own life with the same intensity. Just as the Holy Spirit once filled the temple, we discuss the potential for it to fill our lives, to bring us closer to the divine. We address common reservations head-on, affirming God's boundless goodness and love, so you can pray with confidence, free from fear. Wrapping up, we're emboldened by the promises found in 2 Chronicles 16 and conclude with a prayer for bravery, insight, and a profound relationship with God. This isn't just a historical reflection; it's a call to action for anyone yearning for a deeper connection with the Almighty.

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Well, hello everybody , welcome back to the Bible
Breakdown Podcast with your host, pastor Brandon, today.
2 Chronicles, chapter 5, andtoday's title is the King is
here.
The King is here.
I want to talk about that andwe're going to have just a lot
of fun today reading about amoment in history that has only
happened just a very smallhandful of times and it's going

(00:23):
to be amazing.
But, of course, as always, before we get into that, make
sure you like, share andsubscribe to the YouTube channel
and to the podcast.
Make sure you're going to theBible Breakdown discussion on
Facebook we want to hear fromyou and what's going on and you
can also go tothebiblebreakdowncom and you can
get some of the differentcommentaries, some of the
different things that we'reslowly building.
And, man, I'm going to tell yousomething we're trying to

(00:50):
provide as many resources as wecan for you because, man, the
more we dig, the more we find.
The King of the universe hasrevealed himself to us in his
word, and so, man, it's ours forthe taking.
The more we want to know God,the more we can.
But we go to his word togetherover time, and so I'm excited to
do that with you today.
So, if you have your Bibles, want to open up with me to 2
Chronicles, chapter 5, we'regoing to get into this amazing
moment Now.
I never got to see this myself, but there were two people in

(01:14):
history.
There's been more than that, but especially in the music
world, two come to the top of mymind that people talk about.
That there was just.
Something would happen wheneverthese people would walk onto a
stage and you could probablythink of a thousand of them, but
the two that come to my mindthat we've talked about the most
was what they call the King ofRock and Roll and the King of

(01:35):
Pop.
When Elvis Presley and MichaelJackson, when they said when
these two guys would take thestage, they said it was almost
like something electric.
They just had this way with thecrowd that when these two guys
would take the stage, they saidit was almost like something
electric.
They just had this way with thecrowd that when the king of pop
and the king of rock and rollwould come onto the stage, it
just would change everything.
Just, people would talk aboutit as almost a religious

(01:56):
experience, like, like it wasjust like wow.
There was a reason why theycalled these people the king of
whatever it is.
They did that Nobody was better, right?
Well, I wonder if just that's afraction of what it must have
been like in this chapter, because what we're going to talk
about is we're going to talkabout when the presence of God,
the true king, arrives at thetemple.

(02:19):
They've been building thistemple, they've been getting it
ready, and it's amazing Now.
I love that we get to see this, because we've already seen it
before.
If you remember, 1 and 2 Samueland 1 and 2 Kings was a
chronicling of the nation ofIsrael from its birth until it
was overrun by its enemies in 70years of captivity.
Right, well, as the 70 years ofcaptivity have come to an end,

(02:41):
ezra most likely is writing thehistory of the nation of Israel
again, but he's writing it fromthe point of view.
The overall theme is God iswith those who are faithful, and
so he's talking about thiswonderful time of faithfulness
and, especially because he was apriest, he really leans in on
what happens in the temple, andI love this idea of what God is

(03:03):
doing in this moment because wehave, you know, for seven years
Solomon has been overseeing thefinishing work of the temple,
and now the moment has come.
Can you imagine I mean thinkabout for a moment.
Let's say you were to prepare awonderful evening for all of
your friends and you wait, andyou're ready for the first

(03:23):
person to arrive, but you don'tknow if they're going to come.
You don't know if you've doneall this preparing, all this
planning.
You've ordered the pizza, yougot childcare, you've got games,
you've got things, but youdon't know if the guests are
going to arrive.
I wonder if that's kind of themoment at the end of this.
Seven years.
Solomon has worked for so long,I mean, his entire first part

(03:43):
of his reign has been defined bybuilding this temple.
And now the moment Is God goingto honor the work that they've
done?
Well, spoiler alert the king ishere.
Let's read about it and findout what happens.
You ready?
2 Chronicles 5, verse 1 saysthis.
So Solomon finished all his workon the temple of the Lord.
Then he brought all the giftshis father David had dedicated

(04:07):
the silver, the gold, thevarious articles, and he stored
them in the treasuries of thetemple of God.
Solomon then summoned toJerusalem the elders of Israel
and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the ancestral
families of Israel.
They were to bring the Ark ofthe Lord's Covenant to the
temple from its location in thecity of David, also known as

(04:28):
Zion.
So all the men of Israelassembled before the king at the
annual festival of shelterswhich they held in early autumn.
Now, just for the sake ofcontext, the nation of Israel
had what they would call springfeasts and fall feasts, so this
was one of the early fall feastsand it was a big deal in the

(04:49):
nation of Israel, so it was onpurpose that they did this at
this particular time.
All right, verse four.
When all the elders of Israelarrived, the Levites picked up
the ark and the priests andLevites brought up the ark along
with the special tent and allthe sacred items that had been
made in it.
There, before the ark, kingSolomon and the entire community

(05:09):
of Israel sacrificed so manysheep, goats and cattle that no

(05:34):
one could even keep count.
They'd just be killing all ofit.
Right, just as a sacrifice ofworship before God.
Verse 7.
Now, that almost sounds likethey were real, but don't forget
, these were golden statues thatrepresented angels that were
huge, and they put the Ark ofthe Covenant under it.
All right, verse 9.
These poles were so long thepoles that held up the Ark of
the Covenant.
They were so long that theirends could be seen from the holy

(05:55):
place, which is in front of themost holy place, but not from
outside.
They were still there.
They're still there to this day.
Nothing was in the Ark exceptthe two stone tablets that Moses
had placed in it at Mount Sinaiand where the Lord had made a
covenant with the people ofIsrael when they had left Egypt.
Now, this is something that isa little bit of debate among

(06:17):
people because it says, if younoticed and I kind of stumbled
over that a little bit it saidnothing was in the ark except
two stone tablets that Moses hadplaced in it at Mount Sinai,
where the Lord had made covenantwith the people of Israel when
they left Egypt.
So, first of all, if youremember, he had two stone
tablets and then he threw themdown because he got angry, so he

(06:38):
had to go back and get two more.
But at one point there was abowl of manna that was in there
just representing God'sprovision, and then there was
the staff of Aaron that hadbudded, which was ratifying, by
a miracle, that God had chosenthe house of Aaron to serve as
high priest.
So at one point those threethings were in the Ark of the
Covenant, all symbolizing God'spresence and glory, but

(07:03):
somewhere over time two of thethree had been removed.
Now we don't know.
There's conjecture, there'sideas, and I'm going to leave
that to you to dig and definewhat some people think happened.
But we don't really know whathappened to those two things.
But for some reason those twothings at some point were taken
out of the ark and only which isenough, only the Ten
Commandments said to be writtenwith the very finger of God,

(07:26):
were in the Ark of the Covenant.
Once again, that's quite enough, all right.
Verse 7.
Then the priests left the holyplace and all the priests who
were present had purifiedthemselves, whether or not they
were on duty that day, and theLevites, who were musicians
Asaph, heman, jethuthun and alltheir sons and brothers were
dressed in fine linen robes andstood in the east side of the

(07:48):
altar, playing cymbals, lyresand harps.
They were joined by 120 priestswho were playing trumpets, and
the trumpeteers and singersperformed together in unison to
praise and give thanks to theLord.
Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments,
they raised their voices andpraised the Lord with these
words he is good, his faithfullove endures forever.

(08:12):
And at that moment, a thickcloud filled the temple of the
Lord and the priests could notcontinue their service because
of the cloud, for the gloriouspresence of the Lord filled the
temple.
Wow, can you imagine thatmoment when God's presence
filled the temple?
Now, what I love about that isbecause number one, this was God

(08:34):
showing that he approved ofwhat they had done.
Also, what I love is in thebook of Acts, chapter 2, the
Bible says that the Holy Spiritdescended on the church, and now
it says later in the NewTestament that now we are the
temples of God.
And so what I love about thisis that if God would feel a

(08:55):
temple made by the hands of menand women and whoever else
worked on it, and he will feelthat temple with his presence,
how much more will he feel us ashis holy temple with his
presence If we will giveourselves to him completely like
that and we will worship himthe way they did.

(09:16):
The Bible talks about how theyall came together and it says in
unison, they praised and gavethanks to the Lord and they all
in one voice, said he is goodand his faithful love endures
forever.
We can do this both as acorporate group but also as
individuals.
That's one of the things I loveabout being part of a spiritual

(09:38):
community.
It's hard to be unified withpeople you don't know.
But as we get to know oneanother, as we start to walk
together and we go through somethings together, we celebrate
successes together, we endurelosses together, we work through
conflicts together and weslowly become a spiritual family
.
It's those types of people thatcan truly walk in unity

(09:59):
together.
And as we slowly earn thatunity and walk in that unity
together, it's then when weraise our voices and we praise
God that the Bible says Godinhabits the praises of his
people.
It's the same thing thathappens individually when we
take time out of our day and wesay God, today is yours, I'm
going to give everything I haveto you and I'm going to make a

(10:20):
space for you where I'm going tocome into agreement with you
and I'm going to lift my voice,I'm going to worship you.
Then God can fill us every dayas well.
And so here's kind of thetakeaway for today, and that is
God fills every temple wherehe's welcomed.
You know they, they welcomedGod and his presence came.
Now here's.

(10:40):
Here's a little bit of a trickto it.
There's something to thinkabout, to kind of give you a
little bit of a headache, andthat is the Bible says that God
holds everything, that God isnot everything.
He is separate from us, but yethe encapsulates everything we
have.
So we had to make sure, becauseif we say that God is
everything, that's a form ofpantheism and we don't believe
that.
We believe that God is himselfand he created everything else.

(11:03):
But he holds it all in the palmof his hands and since he is
spirit and he is life, thatmeans that he does fill
everything, but he is noteverything.
So if that doesn't mess yourhead up enough, that means,
therefore, he is everywhere.
That's why the Bible says if Imake my bed in heaven, you are
there.
If I make my bed in hell, youare there.
There's nowhere I can go thatyou are not there, because God

(11:25):
exists in all things right.
Therefore, when we pray and weask God to come in a worship
service or whatever, he'salready there Now.
It's okay to say that.
I'm not telling you, youshouldn't say that, but God's
already there.
God's with you right now Ifyou're driving on your way to
work, keep driving, keep yourhands on the wheel, but God is
with you right now.
If you're getting ready to goto bed and you're listening to

(11:47):
this at night, or if you'reworking the third shift or
you're on your lunch breakwhatever you find yourself
listening to this or watchingthis in the moment, god is there
just as much right now as hewas in this story we just read.
The difference is our awarenessof his closeness, and so one of
the things we do is say Godright now.
I know that you are just asreal right now as you were in 2

(12:11):
Chronicles 5.
I'm asking you to open my eyesto see you more clearly, and I
want to know you more every day.
Pray prayers like that andwatch what God will do, because
the King is already here and hewill increase his presence in
any place where he is welcome.
Let's pray together, god.
Thank you so much that you arewith us more than we can imagine

(12:34):
.
God, I pray that you willencourage us all to pray bold
prayers, to pray and ask to seethings we've never seen before,
to walk in closeness with youlike we never have before.
Lord, I know there's some peoplewho are concerned about prayers
like that because they'reconcerned about what it will
make them do or how it will makethem look.
Help them to realize, god, thatyou are good and your love

(12:55):
endures forever.
You're not interested in makingus fools, you're interested in
making us wise, letting us walkclose with you.
So, with no fear at all, we saycome Holy Spirit, fill these
temples completely with yourpresence.
We thank you in advance for allyou're going to do.
In Jesus' name, we pray Amen, and you know what God's word
says in 2 Chronicles, chapter 16, the eyes of the Lord search

(13:18):
the whole earth in order tostrengthen those whose hearts
are fully committed to him.
God knows when you're committedto him and he wants to draw
close to all of us.
I love you.
I'll see you tomorrow for 2Chronicles, chapter 6.
