Hey everyone, welcome back.
(00:43):
This is episode 97, and today Iwill be talking all about rest.
I was enjoying my two week restof not worrying about the
podcast that I almost forgot torecord this episode.
So rest is essential forreaching your goals, and when
(01:07):
you rest, you also allowyourself to receive.
So during the last two weeks, while we haven't released a new
episode, our downloads havestill continued and have
actually increased in the lasttwo weeks.
So thank you for listening andalso giving me the reminder that
(01:31):
rest is essential, and so Iwant to remind you that rest is
so essential, whatever your goalmay be.
Maybe it's to look for adifferent industry, switch
companies, move up, or maybeit's outside of a career and
you're just looking to findbalance in your life, other,
(01:53):
different life goals, whateverit is that you are wanting to
achieve.
It is important to take time torest, to take a step back and
look at where you are and see ifyou need to continue in the
path that you are headed orbegin to find a different path
that fulfills you more.
(02:14):
And so rest is importantbecause when you are well rested
, you're more likely to beproductive, creative and focused
.
You're also better able tohandle stress and make better
decisions.
How many of you have made apoor decision because of too
(02:36):
much overwhelm and stress?
And after you look back, it maybe not as stressed you realize.
Oh, it was the clear choice, but it happens.
So you know, this is just yourreminder to take some rest.
The summer is coming to an end, school is beginning in August
for some, some in September, andit's going to, you know, get a
(02:59):
little hectic again.
So get some rest.
So I'm going to go over somebenefits of rest and how they'll
help you reach your goals, aswell as different types of rest
that you may not realize youneed.
So rest can help you increaseproductivity, enhanced
creativity, better decisionmaking and reducing stress and
(03:23):
improving your mood.
When you're well-rusted, you'reable to focus and concentrate
for longer periods of time, which, of course, translates to
more productivity.
This also means that you canget more done in less time,
right?
Because you are more focusedand concentrated.
(03:44):
This is why rust is important.
When you aren't well-rusted, itaffects your productivity, your
ability to focus, your abilityto concentrate for long periods
of time.
So rust is key.
Rust can help you think moreclearly and creatively.
This can be helpful when you'retrying to come up with new
(04:04):
ideas or solutions.
Of course, the reason isbecause if your brain and mind
are cluttered, exhausted, they're not going to work as
well, especially in regards tocreativity right, you get
stagnant, you can't see anything, you can't see the
opportunities, you can't see theideas.
So this is another reason whyrust is so key in being able to
(04:29):
be creative.
Being well-rusted means thatyou'll be able to make better
and sound decisions, becauseyou're not as easily swayed by
emotions or distractions.
Our emotions can get in the wayof us making a clear, sound
(04:51):
decision.
If you are feeling overwhelmed,it is hard to know if it's your
intuition, if it's exhaustionor if it's your emotions.
So being rested allows you theclarity to know oh, my intuition
is saying this, oh, my feelingsare feeling this way, and then
(05:15):
you can decipher well what's theright decision for me.
Not saying that your emotionsor your intuition can't guide
you, but when you areoverwhelmed and tired and
exhausted, it is difficult toclearly make decisions, and it
actually makes you feel stuck indecision when you are not
(05:35):
rested.
Another benefit of rust is thatit reduces stress.
We all have stress.
It is all about how we manageour stress, how well we can get
through the stress, and rustwill help you be able to manage
it more effectively.
(05:56):
This is because it gives yourbody and mind a chance to relax
and recharge.
So ask yourself where is yourbattery at Now?
If you haven't given yourselfconscious rest or one of the
seven types of rust that I'll betalking about later, you aren't
fully recharging.
(06:18):
So it's so important that youare intentional with your rest
as well.
Another thing that rest can dois help improve your mood and
overall sense of well-being.
This is because it releaseshormones that have mood boosting
(06:41):
effects.
So if you're serious aboutreaching your goals, it's
important to make a rest apriority.
This means getting enough sleep, taking breaks throughout the
day, scheduling time forrelaxation, and when you give
your body and mind a rest theyneed, they'll be able to better
(07:01):
focus on your goals and achievethem.
So now let's shift a little andtalk about rest in itself,
because there's actually morethan one type of rest, and
knowing what type of rest youneed more of, then you can
actually start being moreintentional with the type of
rest you're giving yourself.
(07:22):
So the different types of restare physical, mental, emotional,
social, spiritual and creativerest.
Physical rest is the mostobvious type of rest.
It refers to getting enoughsleep, and most people need
about seven or eight hours ofsleep.
You know what works best foryou.
(07:43):
Some may need, you know, nineto ten hours and some may only
need six.
But what's most important isthat, at the end of your sleep,
that you feel rested and readyto start your day.
The next type of rest you needis mental rest.
This type of rest refers totaking a break from the constant
mental stimulation that we faceevery day.
(08:05):
This can be done by doing somerelaxation, such as reading,
taking a bath or listening tomusic.
This allows your mind to relaxbut also enjoy the stimuli
around it right, kind ofchecking out a little, but not
(08:26):
overstimulating yourself at thesame time.
Emotional rest is another typeof rest.
This has taken a break fromemotional demands of life.
This can be done by spendingintentional, quality time with
loved ones, doing something youenjoy, or simply just taking
time for yourself.
(08:47):
You know me time and know thatit's okay for you to take me
time so that you can rechargeyour emotional battery.
Which brings me to the nexttype of rest social rest.
This type of rest refers totaking a break from social
(09:08):
interactions.
This could be from social media.
This could be from face to face.
This can be done by spendingtime alone and spending time
with people who make you feelcomfortable and supported and
feel your cup.
So begin to take note whorecharges you and makes you feel
(09:29):
energized after you talk tothem, and who may not.
And I'm not saying don't spendtime with the people that don't.
Just know that when you needsocial rest, those aren't the
people that you'll be going to.
Next is spiritual rest.
Spiritual rest refers toconnecting with something larger
(09:49):
than yourself.
This can be done through prayer, meditation or spending time in
nature, and I would also liketo throw in doing some yoga,
because yoga also helps youconnect with your body and your
mind and your soul andintegrating them all as one, as
(10:10):
you're being slow andintentional during your
movements.
And then the last type of restis creative rest.
This type of rest refers todoing something that allows you
to express your creativity.
This can be done through art, music, writing or any other
(10:31):
activity that allows you toexpress yourself.
So these are the differenttypes of rest that everyone
needs, and you can re-listen tosee which one you know you need
to do more of.
There's physical rest, mentalrest, emotional rest, social
(10:52):
rest, spiritual rest andcreative rest.
So all of these are veryimportant.
So make sure that you arefinding balance and resting in
all of these different areas sothat you can reduce your stress
and overwhelm and you can feelbetter and have the ability to
(11:12):
reach your goals.
So here's some ways you canincorporate rest into your life
ensuring you get enough sleep, whatever number of hours is best
for you, taking breaksthroughout the day if you're
feeling tired.
Take a few minutes to step awayfrom your work and do something
relaxing.
Maybe take a short walk aroundthe block and then make sure
(11:37):
that you're scheduling time forrelaxation.
Make time for activities thatyou enjoy and help you relax.
You know this could be reading, taking a bath, listening to
music, spending time in nature.
Whatever it is that you findrelaxing.
Perhaps it's doing somecrafting, perhaps it's doing
some deep cleaning.
(11:57):
Whatever it is, just make surethat you are scheduling time for
it and listen to your body.
If you're feeling tired, don'tpush yourself.
Take a break.
Go to bed early, figure outwhich type of rust your body is
craving, instead of just sittingon the couch and I'm guilty of
this too Sitting on the couchand watching the next series on
(12:20):
TV, right binging it on whateverstreaming service you have.
It's so easy to zone out thatway, but it is not always the
best type of rest.
So, remember, rest is importantfor you and it's important so
that you can be a better versionof yourself and also manifest
all of your goals that you areworking on.
(12:42):
So thank you for listening andI will chat with you all next
