In terms of derbies within Scottish football, the "north-south" Lanarkshire derby is one of the fiercest rivalries in the country. When Airdrieonians and Motherwell have met in the past, the clashes have been memorable - but since the turn of the century the two clubs have rarely crossed each other's path.
