How Mindset Can Allow You A Second Chance

Diagnosed with cancer first at age 21, Heather quickly learned the impact a positive mindset had on her life. Being diagnosed with cancer at 21, on the cusp of adulthood, changed the path of her life. It impacted her career choices, relationships, health and more. However, it taught her the impact that mindset and thoughts have on our lives. Heather is a natural optimist. Positivity comes easy for her, which she attributes to the challenges she's faced, but says she still experiences low moments. Heather is passionate about helping others transform their mindset, even during life’s most difficult challenges. She teaches strategies on choosing possibilities in problems through speaking, coaching and a variety of resources and has done keynote talks throughout the country to educate and inspire others. Her mantra through clearing cancer was “Today I choose….,” reminding her that we can’t always control what we face but we can choose how we 'respond and react'. Heather made the decision that she was not going to let this disease tell her how to live! She has been a mentor to hundreds of fellow cancer survivors and caregivers, spoken at events across the country, shared the patient experience to healthcare providers, and worked with organizations, health systems and more to improve patient care. She also regularly meets with state and federal legislators to ensure fighting cancer is a priority, focusing on research, preventive screenings, access to care and more.
