Shatoya Brown, Ed. S. is our featured guest in this episode. Tune in as she discusses mental health in children.

Shatoya Brown is originally from Demopolis, AL. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Tuskegee University where she majored in Biology and became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She later obtained a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a second Master of Arts from the University of Alabama in School Psychometry/Educational Psychology. She also holds an Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology/Educational Psychology from the University of Alabama as well. Currently, she is completing her Doctor of Philosophy degree in School Psychology at the University of Alabama and is expected to complete all degree requirements in December of 2024. 

Shatoya has a diverse professional background. While completing her undergraduate degree, she completed several internships at various universities where she conducted ongoing research. Upon graduating, her first occupation began in a pharmaceutical lab before beginning her career in education. She has taught a number of science courses at both high school and collegiate levels. After serving as a teacher for over 12 years, she then began working as a School Psychometrist before earning her Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology. Currently, Shatoya is completing her 19th year in the field of education. Additionally, Shatoya is a member of the following professional organizations: Alabama Education Association, Alabama Association of School Psychologist and National Association of School Psychologist. 

 

Shatoya has a passion for helping others. She enjoys working with students, families, and other educational professionals to ensure that all students and families are provided an optimum educational experience through a holistic approach that acknowledges the importance of a child’s social, emotional, ethical and academic needs. Her ultimate goal is to establish a private practice where she can better provide the support required to eliminate all barriers that prevent a student from reaching their personal goals and aspirations.
