Broadcasting from Seattle, Washington this is West Coast Radio. My guest today is Dan Greenberger out of Hollywood, California. Dan is a tv/film writer and producer whose work you would recognize on CBS television shows like How I Met Your Mother, Everybody Loves Raymond, Survivor, The Big Bang Theory and more. He is the recipient of many Writers Guild Awards for his work at CBS and he is here today to promote his brand new book called, “The Boys Next Door: A Novel about the Beatles”
“Alan Levy is a college student who, in the fall of 1960, spends a semester abroad in Hamburg, Germany. There, he has the misfortune to rent a room next door to an up-and-coming rock and roll band from the North of England. They call themselves the Beatles.
They are loud, rambunctious, and high-spirited. They are wildly unconventional (at least compared to Alan’s Ivy League polish) and play horrible, jarring music at all hours of the night. They are friends, however, with a young woman with whom Alan has fallen hopelessly in love—a beautiful German photographer named Astrid.
The Boys Next Door is a bittersweet love story and a tall tale; a fast-paced, comic what-if, and a true fantasy fulfillment for Beatle fans everywhere. It’s a loving evocation of a time when rock and roll was new and dangerous, and when the lads from Liverpool were taking their first baby steps toward conquering the world.”
You can buy The Boys Next Door: A novel about the Beatles, on Amazon for $6.99 on Kindle or $9.99 on paperback. https://www.amazon.com/Boys-Next-Door-novel-Beatles-ebook/dp/B08D7YMWVP
I have a copy myself and I absolutely loved it. Could not put it down. Lots of people are going to be on an airplane this summer, and it is one of those reads that’ll make any flight go by in a blink.
Dan is here today to promote his novel but he comes from the world of television and the world of television fascinates me more than almost anything on earth. Naturally, this conversation was a big deal to me and I had such a great time asking questions about the world of television. Someday, just like Dan, I’ll be a permanent part of professional show business. In the meantime, it was a real pleasure to step into that world for a moment... I’ll be back!
