On this episode of What I Wish I Learned in Law School, Josh Elledge of UpMyInfluence speaks with the Owner, Veteran's Advocate, and Elder Law Attorney of OC Elder Law, Marty Burbank. Marty's journey into the world of elder law is both personal and professional. With his main office nestled in Fullerton, Orange County, California, Marty's firm may be relatively small, but its reach is extensive, serving clients across California and the state of Washington virtually. Oak Elder Law specializes in traditional estate planning, high net worth estate planning, elder law, veterans benefits, medical planning, and asset protection.

The seeds of Marty's interest in elder law were planted through his personal experiences, particularly the care of his paternal grandmother. His 12-year tenure in healthcare, where he witnessed the darker side of elder care, including neglect and abuse, initially led him to consider nursing home litigation. However, his path took a turn when he discovered a passion for tax law, leading him to pursue an LL.M. in tax law. This specialized knowledge allowed him to advocate for the senior population in a more impactful way.
