After the birth of her sixth child in 1771, the wife of Patrick Henry ("Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death") began to suffer from some form of mental illness that only worsened over time. Rather than send her to an asylum, her husband made two rooms for her in the cellar of their plantation home, Scotchtown. It was there that he died in 1775.
Now people claim to experience paranormal incidents ranging from screaming to seeing her ghostly spirit.
