Hypomania could have its own show. With that in mind, I did my best to keep this segment punchy, full, and personal. A few key things to keep in mind: Hypomania is a period of over-active and excited behavior that can have a significant impact on your day-to-day life. It is extended and involves at least three core symptoms. Hypomania is not to be confused with mania–it manifests with unusual gaiety, excitement, flamboyance, or irritation, along with other characteristics such as inflated self-esteem, extreme talkativeness, increased distractibility, reduced need for sleep, and having racing thoughts–as it does not involve psychosis. You can make decisions and life choices that can significantly decrease your chances of having a hypomanic episode or prevent them entirely. This episode is for anyone who lives with bipolar II, for anyone who has a loved one who lives with the condition, or for anyone curious to expand their knowledge on the topic. Quote by David Lovelace: I know the empathy borne of despair; I know the fluidity of thought, the expansive, even beautiful, mind that hypomania brings, and I know this is quicksilver and precious and often it’s poison. There has always existed a sort of psychic butcher who works the scales of transcendence, who weighs out the bloody cost of true art. Book recommendation: I'm Lying but I'm Telling the Truth by Bassey Ikpi.
