On today's episode of Yours Mentally we talk about student mental health and discuss all the problems that students go through right from their schooling days to college. This episode is in conversation with Drishti Goenka who is a counselling psychologist.
TW: Mention of suicide.
We begin the episode by asking Drishti what are a few common mental health illnesses faced by students?
We then ask in what ways can schools and colleges promote the ideology that learning is more important than marks? Do you think it would help improve students' mental health?
We also discuss if any changes have been made in schools and colleges to help students that face these illnesses? What potential provisions can be made?
We then ask her what is her opinion on encouraging “cut throat competition” in schools and colleges? Is it necessary for their holistic development or does it lead to deterioration of student mental health?
We then go on to talk about how schools help students rise above the stigma surrounding mental health illnesses.
We then ask that since online school/ college has started in this pandemic, cyber bullying has been a major issue. How do students prevent social media from affecting them negatively?
We also ask Drishti if she thinks the Netflix original “13 reasons why” represents student mental Health appropriately? What are some things it portrays incorrectly?
Lastly, we ask what advice would you give to your 18 year old self when you were a college student?

Ruthie's Table 4
For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
