In a tragic turn of events at an Orlando apartment complex, a 10-year-old girl allegedly shot and killed a neighbor following a heated altercation, prompting her mother, Lakrisha Isaac, to accept a plea deal just days before her impending trial.
Isaac, 33, entered a plea of no contest to charges of manslaughter and culpable negligence after her daughter fatally shot 41-year-old Lashaun Rodgers on May 30, 2022. The plea deal was confirmed through court records obtained by Inside Edition Digital.
The deadly incident unfolded during an argument between Isaac and Rodgers, which escalated into a physical confrontation. Allegedly, Isaac handed her daughter her handbag during the altercation, from which the minor retrieved a handgun, loaded a bullet into the gun, and fired a fatal shot at Rodgers.
According to witness statements provided to the police, the events leading to the tragic shooting unfolded during a Memorial Day weekend celebration at an Orlando apartment complex. Rodgers' boyfriend recounted to authorities that he and Rodgers were outside, cooking on a grill, when Lakrisha Isaac approached them, initiating a confrontation stemming from a recent disagreement between Isaac and Rodgers.
The argument quickly escalated into a physical altercation, with Isaac allegedly striking Rodgers, who responded in kind. Attempting to diffuse the situation, Rodgers' boyfriend intervened, but Rodgers attempted to reengage with Isaac. It was during this heated exchange that Isaac's 10-year-old daughter, who had been present throughout the argument, allegedly retrieved a gun from her mother's possession and fatally shot Rodgers in the face.
After the shooting, the young girl reportedly exclaimed, "She shouldn't have hit my momma," before Isaac took the gun from her daughter and pointed it at Rodgers' boyfriend. Witness Ashley corroborated the sequence of events, stating she observed the argument escalating into a physical fight before hearing a gunshot and witnessing Isaac pointing the gun at Rodgers' boyfriend.
Despite the gravity of the situation, witnesses noted Isaac's apparent lack of remorse as she returned to her apartment following the incident.

A video recording of Lakrisha Isaac's interrogation, obtained from the State Attorney's Office, captured her terse response to police questioning: "I ain't got nothing to say to y'all, at all. Don’t talk to my baby, either. She's underage. No reason to talk to her." Despite Isaac's reluctance to engage, investigators confirmed that her daughter cooperated, providing her own account of the events that transpired.
According to the affidavit, Isaac's daughter informed authorities that her mother was intoxicated and expressed a desire to confront Rodgers "woman to women." Despite instructions to remain in their apartment, the daughter followed her mother and stood beside her, accompanied by one of Isaac's friends, as the argument escalated.
During the altercation, the daughter claimed to have witnessed an individual wielding an unidentified object, which allegedly struck her mother. She believed Rodgers inflicted the blow, resulting in a head injury. Additionally, the daughter observed another person holding a rock during the argument. However, Isaac denied sustaining any injuries when questioned by the police.
The affidavit further detailed the daughter's assertion that Rodgers threatened her and her family. Feeling provoked and citing anger issues, the daughter purportedly seized the firearm from Isaac's friend and aimed it above Rodgers' head before firing a single shot, which caused Rodgers to collapse.
Although police arrested the minor following the shooting, the State Attorney's Office opted not to try her as an adult. Instead, she faces charges of second-degree murder and has been in a detention center since her arrest, with her case status currently unknown.
Isaac's plea deal stipulates five years in prison followed by three years of probation, contingent upon her not being arrested while out on bail before her sentencing hearing on June 21. Additionally, she must attend a four-hour parenting course and undergo substance abuse evaluation and treatment.
This tragic incident comes amid heightened scrutiny on parental responsibility in cases involving minors and firearms, following the recent convictions of James and Jennifer Crumbley, parents of school shooter Ethan Crumbley, on charges of involuntary manslaughter in Michigan.
State Attorney Monique Worrell expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, "This is one of the most tragic cases I have seen in my 22-year career. This shooting is an unimaginable tragedy that defies easy solutions."
