(00:00):
This is Gary and Shannon and you'relistening to KFI AM six forty the Gary
and Shannon Show on demand on theiHeartRadio app. It does seem for the
first time that Democrats by and largerealize they may have a problem on their
hands when it comes to President Biden'scognitive abilities. That is where we're going
to start swamp Watch. But beforewe do, I wanted to just throw

(00:21):
in a couple of the Supreme Courtdecisions that came down today. This is
and by the way, the immunitydecision did not come down today, which
we expected, but if you lookon the Supreme Court website, they actually
added a day on Monday for moreopinions to be released. So they're dipping
into July, maybe the first timeever that they've had to get into July

(00:42):
to do some of their decisions. But Supreme Court upended a forty year old
decision that made it easier for thefederal government to regulate the environment, public
health, workplace safety, consumer protectionsin what they call the Chevron decision.
They also the Supreme Court did saythat cities can and force bans on people

(01:03):
sleeping outdoors. They're going to givelocal officials some more freedom to address homelessness.
And then finally, Attorney General MerrickGarland said he was disappointed. The
Supreme Court is going to make itharder to charge January sixth defendants with the
obstruction charge. So they said itdoes. His word was that it limits
an important federal statute. But thecases against the vast majority of people charged

(01:26):
in January sixth will not be charged. There weren't that many of them that
were actually charged with obstruction. Roughday for liberals all around when you look
at the Supreme Court decisions and thenwhen you let the halting debate performance,
as the Washington Post puts it,set in today, and that is where
we kick off swamp watch. Theswamp is horrible. The government doesn't work.

(01:49):
Man. We're going to make itlike a reality TV show. Was
it bad news? Always a pleasureto be anywhere from Washington, DC?
Hey, Joe town Hall too clearlybuilt on a swamp in so many ways,
still a swamp to watch you, malarkey. What he said, drain
the swamp? I said, Ohthat's so he keep you know the thing.

(02:13):
So, for whatever reason, whywe waited this long, why the
Democratic Party waited this long. Idon't know, but today they're finding themselves
talking about an uncomfortable question. Isit too late to replace Biden on the
ticket? The answer is no,And then you get to the next question
is, well, who's up.Obviously it's likely the President would have to

(02:37):
first agree to step aside, andif you saw his performance today in North
Carolina, that doesn't look like thatis set in for him today as of
yet. But time is not ontheir side. If this is going to
happen, you're gonna have to choosesomebody that can build up some momentum going
into the convention. Otherwise it's goingto be a free for all. Yeah,
and I mentioned the old I believeit's a Buddhist saying from the best

(03:04):
time to plant a tree was twentyyears ago, but the next best time
is right now. You can't delaythis very much because of a The amount
of money, I mean just sheercash that the Trump campaign has on hand
is mind blowing. And now theBiden campaign does have money, they do
have the ability to spend. Butwith a new face, a new ticket

(03:25):
potentially because I don't know what they'regoing to do with the vice president,
that they have to get something goingquickly if in fact that's what they're going
to do. So, like yousaid, the first thing that would have
to happen is that Biden would haveto say, yes, I step aside
whatever, and is well the secondaryaspect of that is okay, if the

(03:47):
president steps aside as a candidate, would there be pressure on him also to
step aside as president? I mean, if there's an admission, I don't
think I'm not bring it. I'mnot bringing it as a campus side as
president, I mean. And thatbrings up the question of will there be
a cabinet conversation about the twenty fifthamendment after what we saw John Stewart on

(04:13):
The Daily Show. He did aspecial last night responding to the debate,
and he said he used the termtwenty fifth amendment, stare, there is
no the twenty fifth amendment, restingface. Oh yeah, Now again,
it would be easy for delegates atthe convention to vote for someone else.
The primary and caucus victories for presidentby means that he has the support from

(04:34):
the vast majority. Right, He'sgot like thirty nine hundred of the four
thousand delegates that are committed so far. So that's where the free for all
comes in the political Jocking for anew candidate would take the Democratic Party down
an uncomfortable path. It would bemessy. Democrats would face what's known as
an open convention. This is anold fashioned type of a deal. A

(04:56):
nominee would be chosen on the flybehind the s negotiations i e. Throat
cutting, bargaining, i e.Promising the moon to people to get their
support. It's been decades since anopen convention has happened. Then you got
to talk about Kamala Harris. Wouldshe be the front runner for the nomination.
You don't know, but delegates wouldnot be under any obligation to select

(05:20):
her just because she's the vice president. What's the line? Is it?
From West Side story? What doyou do about? What about the problem?
Is it jet sharks? When you'rea jet, you're a jet all
the way from your first cigarette toyour last dian day? Is that what
you're looking for? No? Gotit? A problem? Like Maria?
Uh? Yes? Is that? What it is? Is that? I

(05:42):
don't know? Someone tell us whatit is. I'm sure that I'm getting
it wrong. But I was gonnasay with the problem that is Kamala Harris
because I mean, listen, GavinNewsom is at the top of the list
or near the top of the listof those people who could potentially replace Joe
Biden. But how does he justdefy that in the Democratic Party when he
was the guy who said, Ihave when Diane Feinstein passed away and he

(06:06):
said it's time for California to berepresented by a black woman. How do
you then say, but it's not, but we're not ready for a black
female president. You don't you ignoreit if you're a Democrat, have to
that has his hat. And theDNC rule book, by the way,
makes no mention of how an openconvention scenario would work in terms of here

(06:30):
are the absolute logistics of what youneed to do to find the candidate.
They just offer. The rule bookonly offers this, All delegates to the
National Convention pledged to a presidential candidateshall, in all good conscience reflect the
sentiments of those who elected them. That's it. So we've got a list
of names here. We wanted toopen it up to the talk back into

(06:53):
the phones if you want to callus. It's weird to take calls regarding
politics, but I think we're alladult in the room and we can handle
it. We'll get into the listof names and who you think as a
Democrat that you would like to seerun if Biden steps aside? Who you
think could beat Trump? Yeah, eight hundred five two zero one five three
four eight hundred five to oh oneKFI. We're going to do something we

(07:16):
haven't done a long time now,or we're taking some phone calls here and
figure out if you don't have tobe a Democrat. But if you're a
Democrat, great, if you're independenteven better. You didn't want either one
of these people, probably the bestwho would you vote for if Biden was
to step aside and let somebody elsebe at the top of the ticket?
Gary and Shannon Will continued. You'relistening to Gary and Shannon on demand from

(07:40):
KFI AM six forty. What wouldhappen if Joe Biden did step aside?
The lingering issue after the first debatebeing everyone's kind of realizing he's not completely
there anymore. Fortunately. So thequestion is if you are if you would
be interested in voting for a Democratbecause you are a Democrat, or you're

(08:01):
an independent, you know, likeTrump, whatever the reason is, who
would you want to replace Joe Biden. Who would you vote for at the
top of the ticket so far, some names are Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer,
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Gavin Newsom, of course, Maryland Governor Wes Moore,
Pete boot Edge Edge, North CarolinaGovernor Roy Cooper, and Georgia Senator

(08:24):
Rachel Warnock Rafael Warnock. Now,I don't think it's Rachel, right.
Please tell me it's right. It'sRafael. You're right. I don't know
why I read Rachel, which wouldbe that doesn't make any sense. He's
been a senator for four That's whatThat's what I'm confused about, and why
I called him Rachel. Eight hundredfive two zero one five three four eight

(08:46):
hundred and five to two oh one. Kfi. Let's go to uh,
Jeff, hold on a second.Somebody screwed this up. Don't go anywhere,
Jeff. Let me try it again. Jeff. There you are,
Hey, Jeff, what's going on? Hey? Okay? I never did
like Biden, but I am aDemocrat from a strong Democratic family. I
think Andy Basher, who's Kentucky governorright now, comes from a family.

(09:09):
His father was governor the state. He's in a red state, but very
popular. He just got re electedfor a second term. He's also young,
he's like forty seven, and he'sbeen through a lot of crisis in
the state. You know, they'vehad a lot of natural disasters. He
works with a legislator that's a Republicanlegislature. I just think this guy,

(09:30):
he may not have the name appealright now known by everybody, but I
think he would be a solid candidatewhen people know what he's done, and
maybe with a strong VP, youknow, to back him up. It
would be a really good ticket. So I would put him at the top
of my list. Hopefully he makesit. Yeah, it's not this election,
maybe the next one, but Ithink he should be seriously considered.

(09:52):
Well, I don't think Gavin Newsomwould win on a national lecture right now.
I really don't. Yeah, thisguy has more likability. I think
you're absolutely right. Andy Sheer hasmore likability when you look at places like
Kentucky, places he looks, helooks more of the part than Gavin news
Gavin Newsom screams California, screams elite, screams privileged and preppy, and that

(10:13):
doesn't play out in a lot ofparts of the country, right, And
as he said, as Jeff mentioned, Basher is one of like he may
be the only Democrat in state, right, there's one that there's two Democrats
in statewide office in Kentucky, andhe's one of them. I hate to
say that he's a rising star becausehe's forty six. He should be a
star at that age. But theway that American politics work, you're just

(10:35):
a baby, which is ridiculous.I know Fred is calling from La Fred,
what's going on? Hey, hithere? Hey? My pick would
be Joakim Jeffries, Hakeem Hakeem Jeffries. Yes, that's who I would pick.
The way he's handling the House situation. I feel he's the right age,

(10:58):
he's got everything going for him,and we don't really need him in
the House right now. We needhim to do the president. Yeah,
he's a good speaker too. Hewas a member of the New York State
Assembly before he went to UH beforehe went to Congress about ten years ago,
so he's been in DC for along time. He's right now the
minority leader in the House, rightright, right, right, But I

(11:20):
definitely would pick him Joe's performance theband last night, and definitely not Gavin
Newsom. Yeah, yeah, GavinNewsom is a Romney. Well that's a
that's a funny way to put it. And I'm curious, like, how
can we judge what somebody thinks ofGavin Newsom outside of the state of California.

(11:43):
I mean, we get him,we get too much of him already
because because of it. But Ithink that they laugh at the idea that
he thinks he could lead the entirecountry. He does. He doesn't have
his finger on the polls. He'snot a real person. You know.
People want somebody that reflects them intheir elected leader, or at least knows
what their life struggles are, andGavin Newsom does not even pretend to know.

(12:05):
Sidney is calling from Woody or hihCindy, Hello, Hi, Hi,
thank you for giving me this opportunity. I liked the last caller.
I think that's a good idea too. Or John F. Kennedy Junior,
but definitely not Kenniston or Kamala Harris. I'll just say we lost John John

(12:31):
twenty five years ago now in aplane crash. I'm assuming you mean our
FK Junior, Yes, Junior.Yes, right, that's okay and listen
like I said. That was oneof the conversations that took place yesterday after
the debate was Chris Cuomo had askedour FK Junior if he would be at
least open to the phone call fromthe Democratic Party to represent them on the

(12:52):
ticket. Do you think that itwould be splintered enough to where no one
gets the momentum? You know.Derek Muller, a law professor at Notre
Dame, says changing nominees legally straightforwardfrom a legal perspective. There's no official
nominee, the ballots have been printedor anything like that, but that the
jockeying would be a free for alland does that harm everybody if they don't

(13:16):
coalesce behind one person? It could, But that's why they have to do
it right away, Yeah, sothat they can get farther away from that.
Possibly. Devin is calling in LosAngeles. You're on with Gary and
Shannon. I just first off wantto say Gary and Shane I like love
you guys, and it's such anhonor to be able to speak with you
guys. I am just such apleasure. Well, thank you. I'm

(13:39):
a of course, thank you guysfor the service you guys do. I'm
a huge political fan. I'm oneof those undecided fans. I think the
best day of politicians that we haveis not a good one. But I
do think that Gavin Newsome, asfar as the Democrat Democrats party should go.

(14:01):
I think Gavin Newsom is be choice. Joe Biden cannot do the job.
I mean, as soon as hewalked on the stage wobbling last night,
I knew it was it was.It was a horrible night. Yeah,
and they've got to pivot and they'vegot to stop acting because if they
don't, the Democrats will lose. All right, Well, Kevin, thank

(14:24):
you, Yeah, thank you verymuch, and thank you for listening to
the show. Coming up next,we'll take more of your calls and just
ride this thing out. And alsohere's another question. Was it just one
bad night that Biden recovers from.Yeah, like Aven Newsom said, you
don't change horses mid debate, butwe also know if we've had an aging

(14:45):
relative, it's not just one badnight. Yeah. Eight hundred five to
zero one five three four, eighthundred five to one KFI is the number
we'll come back and do some moreof these calls. You're listening to Gary
and Shannon on demand from KFI.President Joe Biden fired up today in rally
North Carolina. Totally different Joe Bidenthan we saw last night. He did

(15:07):
admit in this rally he does notdebate, walk or speak as well as
he used to, but he sayshe knows how to get stuff done.
As President eyelied. I thought Trumpalso had a North Carolina. I think
his is in Virginia. If I'mnot mistaken. He's got a rally that's
supposed to start in about twenty minutes. They've been talking him up. It
was March nineteen sixty eight when PresidentLyndon B. Johnson decided not to run

(15:31):
for reelection, and the Democratic Conventionthat August devolved into chaos when delegates could
not decide on a candidate. Afterthat, the party changed the rules to
give power to voters to choose theirnominee through the primary process. Delegates to
the convention were expected to support thecandidate who won their state's primary. That's

(15:52):
fun because the sixty eight convention wasin Chicago, and the twenty four convention
will be in Chicago. And rememberthat convention was marred by Vietnam protests yep,
and this one could easily be marredby pro Palestinian protests. If anybody
was going to replace Biden, itwould have to be Devin Knowsome here it

(16:15):
full stop. Perhaps we can persuadeLiz Cheney, who's a moderate Republican.
It's web side. If we wereto replace Biden, I would go with
what that other lady said, JamieRaskin. He does seem like a strong

(16:36):
person to leave. I would votefor Andy Basheer or Gretchen Whitmer. What
we don't want is for the Democratsto pick some politically correct Yeah, she
got cut off for some reason, but she's right in that you can't go
too progressive. That's not going toappeal to the whole country. Right,
Wayne is calling, Hey Wayne froma Redondo beach on with Gary and Shannon.

(17:02):
Well, Hey, Gary and Shannon, it's nice to speak with you
both. Well, it's nice tobe spoken to, so listen. I
am a registered no party preference. But I really believe the Democrats knew all
the all the while that Joe wastoo old to run. But I'll tell
you this, I think they reallyought to consider Michelle Obama. Yeah,

(17:23):
she she just doesn't want it.She doesn't want you know. You know
John Kennedy once said, asked, not what your country can do for you,
but what you can do for yourcountry. I just listened. Celebrity
wise, name wise, she wouldbring a lot to the party, but

(17:45):
in terms of reaching independent voters whowant somebody in there that's capable of doing
the job. What experience does shehave? Well, she's been She's been
around politics, been around me,yoga. I've been around baseball too.
That doesn't mean I'm gonna step inand stitch to show him as an independent.
I think that she would be agreat person to put together a team

(18:10):
around her that would advise her andthat she could trust it absolutely. Yeah,
smart people. Yeah. Hey,thanks for the call, way and
we appreciate it. That's good stuff. Let's go to good day. Thank
you. Rego is Colin from thefifty seven. What's up? Hey,
what's going on? Gary? AndShannon? Thank you for having me on
the show. I think after lastnight's The Real Debate by Robert F.

(18:33):
Kenny, which drew over six millionviews double CNN's broadcast, I would go
with that guy to be the nextpresident. He has real ideas. I
know that he may sound a littlequirky sometimes and he's not the most presidential,
like mentally sound guy people say,but he's actually a lot more true.

(18:57):
He's a lot more down to earththan all these other presidents that he's
younger. It's just it's such agood point you make, how important it
is for someone to be down toearth well. And And one of the
things that RFK does that the otherguys haven't, and I don't know a
lot of politicians that do. Hetalks literally about the physical health of our
country, the physical like, howare we going to get people off of

(19:19):
overprocessed foods? How are we goingto get people off of statins and blood
thinners and medicines that they don't necessarilyneed. That That that appeals to me
because I think that's an important issueas opposed to arguing about your golf handicap,
I mean, and entitlements. It'sjust just an awful So here's a
common one. Mike is calling fromBraya. Hi, Mike, Hey,

(19:42):
how you doing. Jerry and shanngreat. I would like to say I
think Joe Manchin would be the biggestdraw for both them. I did a
big I did a big I dida big thing about this last night,
is it, Mike, Yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay, So Mike,
I did a big thing to mygirlfriends last night about Joe Manchin and

(20:03):
all of that. And the thingI was hit back with was the fact
that he is seventy six years old. I had no idea he was seventy
six years old. I thought hewas like in his early sixties or something
like that. So that would bethe knock on him. I think,
just if we're moving away from havingpeople in their late seventies early eighties,

(20:26):
he's just he's the middle of theroad. I would say he's more of
an independent when you look at it. You survive West Virginia this long.
I mean, I think he canget both sides well. And I like
that because, like you, Imet you at Victor's wedding. I was
the bartender and you and your hopeand couldn't have been nicer. Oh,
you were so wonderful. We hadsuch a great time with you. Mike.

(20:47):
Let me press in on this fora second, Mike, if you
don't mind, who was nicer? Was it Shannon or was it her husband?
Well, her husband opened up thenight with a twenty dollars tip.
So, yeah, before I knewwho she was. So so he was
a good guy, but she was, she was. They were great,
they were really nice. Yeah.He tips me to pay attention to her
too. He gives me it,Mike, thank you, We appreciate it.

(21:08):
That's good. That's good stuff.Hey, if the blonde comes and
talks to you, just keep herhere for a little bit, would you?
Another mic from Lake Arrowhead? How'sthe weather up there? It's fantastic.
And I've got a prediction, okay, that will solve all the Democrats'

(21:29):
problems. Not that I would likeit to happen, but I've got to
be objected. Okay. Now,most people think that you cannot run for
office a third time as president andbe legally allowed to do so. The
law says you cannot be elected fora third term. It doesn't mean that

(21:49):
you can't be assigned. And ifObama is the running mate with Biden,
and Biden decides a week app surehe's inaugurated, that he has to resign
for health reasons, Obama's vice president. Obama becomes president. I cannot imagine

(22:10):
the Democrats not taking that course ofaction. HM, meann interesting wrinkle in
this, But then what about Kamalainstitution being with Kamala is she's replaced by
another black person, So that makesthat not quite as a concern. And
maybe they do something with Nuisance andgive him a secretary of State role and

(22:36):
they make Kamala the governor of California. I mean, there's ways around those
days. This all sounds really bad, Mike, I hate your imagination.
You're not the only one. Thankyou, Mike, appreciate it. We
got a couple where you want todo this at one more time. Come
back and we'll wrap up this questionof if if Joe Biden was taken off

(23:00):
the top of the ticket, whowould entice you to vote for Democrats.
It's Friday and Friends. Oh,it's Friday and Friends. I'm the Gary
and Shannon Show. Eight hundred fiveto zero one, five, three four.
It's eight hundred five to oh oneKFI. You're listening to Gary and
Shannon on demand from KFI AM sixforty. Elaine Camerck is an expert on

(23:22):
political primary served as a Democratic delegatemultiple times. She has noted that there
is a scenario, albeit unlikely, and which Biden refuses to step aside,
but a challenger emerges to try toconvince his delegates to turn their back on
him. She said, someone wouldhave to make an argument that this would
be terrible, that it's the wrongthing to do, that he's too old,

(23:42):
whatever she said, which is franklywhy no one would probably do it.
It would be very destructive. You'dhave to take him head on.
You'd have to count off this election. I think like you just have to
write it off and just say we'rejust throwing in the hat and we'll see
in twenty eight. They're up againsta compressed timeline because the states all have

(24:03):
timelines for whenever they're going to putforth the candidate. The DNC agreed to
hold a virtual role call to nominateBiden ahead of the convention to heat off
a Ohio law that requires a nomineeto be selected by August seventh, which
is ninety days before the election.Yeah, but also a week before the
actual conventions. Yeah, that wouldbe an issue. I think their secret

(24:26):
weapon, widen secret weapon would bein the Democrats would be Michelle Obama.
I don't like any of the candidatesthat you guys rattled off. Definitely not
Kamala, Definitely not Gavin. Butyou know who I could get behind,
Mark Cuban. He could take onTrump. He could be Trump, and

(24:48):
he's the guy we need right now. And my idea for a candadate besides
a president Biden, Let's say justput a block of Delvita in a chair,
put a tie on it. Can'tdo much worse, right First of
all, oh, yes, cheers, And who I think should be running
for president should be someone named GaryHoffman and another one called Shannon Farren.

(25:12):
No the one two punch that thiscountry is not ready for. But I
believe this country needs guys. Arewe doing it? We are not.
We're not doing it one. Itsounds like too much work. Honestly,
it is too many outfits. Idon't want to wear dresses and skirts.
Jared is calling Jared. What's goingon? Not too much? Gary?

(25:33):
Shannon Mike stole my idea earlier onMansion. I think Man should be good
to get both parties working together. But but here's an idea how to out
of left field? How about Dwaynethe Rock Johnson. Guy's tough, strong,
I think he'd give Trump a runfor his money. And then if
we got into war, we couldactually send him in there to fight for

(25:55):
us. Were you to bring insome cokes? Guy? No, he
sounded a little like him, buthe could say it if he wanted to.
I mean, I'm to say, bring in some cokes. Do you
want to say some bring in somecokes? Please bring in some cokes.
Thank you, Jared. We appreciatethat. Mary is calling in Pasadena.
Hey, Mary, what's going on? Hey? What about Senator Corey Booker

(26:18):
for New Jersey? Where has hebeen? He is doing a great job
in the Senate and he is sopoised. I really I think this could
be his time, right, hehad a lot of momentum. Yeah,
I like Corey Booker. It's anoption. I didn't even think about that.
But you're right, he's been outof since. The debates have been

(26:41):
over on the Democrats or on theWhat was he running for? What did
he do here? Can you tellme? You tell me? Tim is
calling from over in Utah? Allright, how's it going? Garon Shannon
Love the show? Thank you?Yeah, I'm a Republicant alli ball for
Trump, probably, but I'm along time California resident, born and raised

(27:03):
in Alhambra, and I think GavinNewsom wouldn't be a good choice. There's
too much ammunition being the current stateof California or whoever he'd be against to
use against him. Bud a Gigmight be a good choice because that would
lean to towards a lot of peoplein the West Hollywood area ends up.

(27:25):
But uh, you know, Ithink if they could get Kennedy to jump
the party into the Democratic Party, that would probably be a solid, solid
choice. Interesting. All right,Tim, thanks for calling, appreciate it.
We're gonna wrap it up with Kevinin Culver City. Meow, what's
going on? Guys? Love theshow. You're amazing, You're hilarious.

(27:47):
I'm gonna see you gonna be onTV one day. Watch. Yeah,
yeah, you're the best, bothof you. Guys. I love it.
Listen every day. So a lotof the college took my thunder.
I have Michell Obama, Mark Cuban, and the Way the Rock Johns.
So let's swing for the fences. How about Derek Jeter, Michael Jordan,
maybe Magic Johnson or somebody outside thebox like that, or maybe even Mark

(28:14):
Zuckerberg. So you know, MagicJohnson, you might be honest something with
Magic magic may Actually he would beone of those guys that would potentially entertain
the idea. Michael wrote to us. After that debate and the Lakers extremely
poor decision to draft Brownie, Istarted thinking that maybe there was some alteration
to the past that has us allliving in an alternate reality similar to Back

(28:34):
to the Future too with Biff andhis Trump style casino. Oh no,
my mind is blood. I know. The one thing nobody talked about was
the part I feel like I likemy presidential candidates to have some military experience.
Yeah, that's that's going by thewayside, and that I mean it

(28:56):
clearly has. The last couple, you know haven't had military Rock Obama did
not. So just that's a strangething that we've kind of gotten away from,
right. I think that's an importantquality to have, But very few
of the people that we've been mentionedhave it. All Right, all right,
let's move on. We'll talk stillsome fun on a fron We'll have
some fun on a Friday. We'vegot our nuggets coming up. Also,

(29:18):
what you learned this week on Garyand Shannon let us Know You sat talkback
feature on the iHeartRadio app to letus know what it is you learned?
And yeah, we'll do all thatcoming up next. Wait a minute before
we do that, Yeah, isit a bumper? Piss? Cheers?
Cheers, cheers, We need abeverage. Gary and Shanner will continue right
after this. You've been listening toThe Gary and Shannon Show. You can
